Very informative reviews man. I have owned both the Craftsman 229 3 drawer and 216 Versastack tool sets, but ended up returing each prior to using them. Couldnt get past the 12pt 1/2 sockets. I ended up deciding on the 226 pc tough system dewalt kit for 129$ and am very happy with it very comprehensive set. Keep up the reviews boss!

I like the wrenches from that gunmetal set, those wrenches look comfortable in the hand. The Gunmetal set looks like a good buy but your right it does lack in sizes and the ability to buy more gunmetal finish tools. Looks like it's just that set only. Great series on the tool brand options.

Oh yes, I really like that Harbor Freight set. I've been using a cheap breifcase set that my sister gave me as a Christmas gift 20+ years ago. It has served me well, but I've lost a couple of items, and the case is falling apart. The Pittsburg seems like a great replacement/upgrade. The briefcase design is great at being compact, yet packing in A LOT of tools. I also like how you open it up and can see everything, unlike the case sets with drawers and flip up tops, etc. I'm thinking that this might be it .... along with a stack system for additional/miscellaneous tools, chemicals, lubes, parts, etc. The stack system would replace my current additional box which is way too small, and also falling apart. Great information. Thanks.

I love gearwrench for my garage, but if I'm gonna have a bunch of tools in my car, I wanna not be worrying about someone bashing in my windows to steal them lol. Pittsburgh seems like a really good balance of "good enough quality for side of the road" and "if someone walks off with them it won't end the world". I'd be the most worried about having a DeWalt case in my car the most tbh, let alone not having a 10mm wrench is insane.

When it comes to sockets I lean to large labeled and easy to read sockets with a decent case. I like that you dud the shake test. I hate it when the tools shake and rattle. Low profile Rataching wrenches are always a better choice. That's for the comparisons.

I would stay away from Gearwrench just because of the warranty. I tried to warranty an Armstrong wrench with Grearwrench. They said sure take it to Gearwrench dealer. All of the dealers in my area said nope. Gearwrench is supposed to be the replacement for defunct Armstrong. I’ll stick to the store house brands.

The Pittsburgh Mechanics Tool set is great with its socket range, including 12-point 1/4in sockets. Plus, the TPM handles on the 3 ratchets, which you don't get on the 301 piece set or the Quinn 428 piece set. That was huge for me in terms of ergonomics and hand fatigue. Most of the Pittsburgh stuff at HF is the same as Quinn, just a different colorway.

Thank you for making this series. I’ve watched all three. I ended up buying the Gearwrench set from Home Depot as this set are 6-point sockets and it has the least amount of skips. Like you, I was annoyed by the sockets not staying put. I’m thinking maybe putting some non-slip grip sheet in between to keep it from rattling off the assigned place.

In that GW set, I’d swap the ratchets out. The 3/8 I’d replace with the 90t compact head from them. That Dewalt set missing a 10mm is the single dumbest skip I’ve ever seen. The 14mm skipped in a Kobalt set I have is the runner up to that. I have one of the dark chrome Craftsman ratchets and it has the heaviest back drag of any single 3/8 or 1/2 ratchet I’ve ever encountered.

  • @frankortega9798

Great video, thanks so much. Maybe some of the skips are because there is a metric equivalent or vice versa, like a 13mm for a half inch, but a 10mm completely skipped? Somebody probably lost there job.

Look forward to your giveaway. Thanks for reviewing all these sets so I don't have to buy them 😁. I bought the Husky 270 piece set, and the Craftsman 239 piece set, as well as the Craftsman 121 Gunmetal chrome set, all in the past month. I immediately returned the Craftsman 239 set because it's a big case for so little useful tools. I really like the Craftsman 121 Gunmetal chrome set for all the reasons you gave. I'll probably return the Husky 270 set but one thing I like is the ratchet handles on the 1/2" and 3/8" are longer than Craftsman. It would be useful if you also compared the lengths in future reviews. I'm curious as how the ratchets in the Kobalt 227 piece compares.

Still no look at that 215-piece Hart Mechanic's Set that Walmart's currently got for $94, huh? But I get it: this episode's about briefcase kits. Thing is, I actually snagged the Hart one for half price ($47) as an "open box" last week, just because I couldn't walk away from that kinda deal. It was all there--just missing the outer cardboard packaging covering. So, just for a gag, I hauled it over to the nearby sporting goods desk, and a manager marked it down there on the spot--even printed out a little barcode price tag. It's not a bad kit: silky-smooth 90 tooth ratchets, super-visible markings and very little filler. I agree that the Pittsburgh kit is the clear buy there in this crop for just $99, if only for selection and ease of warranty replacement. I'm not normally a huge fan of rubbery "comfort handles" on ratchets, but I could deal with them at that price point. I am WAY less impressed by that Dewalt kit. With respect to all those Dewalt electric fan boys and fetishists out there, it really DOES seem like they haven't quite got the whole mechanical hand tools thing sorted out yet. And who needs black tools? Ain't it hard enough to spot a shiny chrome wrench dropped down into the nooks and crannies of an engine bay? You wanna make 'em black and even harder to spot? Jeez! Why not camouflage? Those guys should maybe stick to woodworking and hanging drywall.

Just picked up a $90 Channellock 200pc set at Sams Club. Got it because it came with 14 ratcheting wrenches and 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" ratchets, extensions for each, deep and short sockets to 19mm-3/4", tons of bits. But thought it was redundant that it had hex sockets and two extra hex 1/4" adaptors. Guess if you want to but them straight one a drill. Also had a hex to magnetic hex adaptor. The magnet in the screwdriver is noticeably weak, and the ratcheting wrenches have a slightly bigger than normal box end for a ratchet style. Although has 90teeth and slop is pretty good making small movements effective. Got it to replace my favorite portable set of Crescent 70pc, which sold for $74 online.. so why not pick it up local.
