Husband & Wife play What Remains of Edith Finch (Full Game)

Ойындар

Trigger warnings: this game touches on death and trauma in many forms, with a sadly large range of ages. Very beautiful yet VERY sad story though. Feels like watching a movie. Watch us play live at / evanandkatelyn .

    You become sorta neutral to them here in Texas. I've seen a few in the wild but it's rare. However waking up to them in your bed or finding out the hard way they're in your shoes makes it easier to adapt to their preferences. 😅 Kinda like our snakes or spider.

    A detail about the Forrest and the foliage around the house is that all the purple vines of flowers are foxglove. Foxglove is a deadly flower that many in the olden days mistook for different flowers for tea making. Because of that, foxglove is taken as a sign of hidden death, or death hiding in plain sight. Just a cool detail the many people don’t realize

  • @blackjackdaw7865

    Oh, I didn't know about that symbolism. That's cool to know! But then again sometimes I can confuse some plants because of the translation. Fun fact: In polish foxglove is named after how it's shaped "Naparstnica" which roughtly translates to "The thimble plant". That's why I kept on confusing it with thimbleweed. Also naparstnica totally sounds like it could be a name for a type of mouse.

    I would love to see you guys play the other game. I don’t remember much from when I played both, so it’ll be fun to remember along with you guys. Also the train in Edie’s scene, I think it was the same train that took Walter as they died in the same year, and Edith was 6 when Walter died and when she left the house with her mom. I think the curse is broken with Edith’s child. Every new generation was living for "longer" and her mom was the start of them realizing that living with the constant thought of death was probably what was killing them. It was a type of manifestation and I think a big part of it was building their graves before they died. Edith was very aware of this throughout the game, and it feels like she came back with the intent of resolving unfinished things, and putting less weight into the curse. Yet she still did, by writing this out for her child expecting to not be around for them… so she died during childbirth. I don’t know if it’s really a curse, as ever death has an explanation or connection, they just seem whimsical and eerie (aside from it being about their deaths ofc that makes it eerie already) because it’s being told through these characters lenses. How I think the Finches died at least ones that not so clear ones: (just for "fun" and only in my opinion.) Molly eats the berries, and I don’t think she died right after writing, but I think she believed the hallucinations and tried to do it for real after and fell out the window, but some think she poisoned herself with the various things she ate. Was it said she was found in her bed? That would change my theory. Barbara dies from her boyfriend coming back in anger, the story characterizes him as the hook man, and she tried to defend herself but couldn’t at the end. That’s why he was accused of it at the end of the story. A few think an angry group did it, but I don’t see the motivation, and it could have been young Walter’s fear and guilt making it out to be worse. Edie liked that story written about her death the most, maybe Barbara wasn’t murdered and instead committed suicide since her career was failing and it seemed to be a lot of pressure on her. But the ear? Maybe she was murdered by a stalking fan instead of the boyfriend, or maybe he was that fan and was so obsessed with her career that when she wanted to stop pursuing it he became dangerous and enraged. Calvin fell from the swing, idk if he really fell off a cliff, but to a kid that height would feel like a cliff. Mentioned due to the fact that I really can’t believe an adult would build a swing that close to a high cliff. Gregory drowned, his and Barbra’s feel like the only ones that weren’t a manifestation, but maybe they were manifested by other’s assumptions. This is why I brought him up despite how obvious his death was. I mentioned my theory on Walter and Edie’s death being at similar times. Edie seemed to have died of old age, but I think the scene where Dawn was trying to get her to stop drinking, the broken plate and so-pulled wine in the beginning of the game, and the hallucinating of walking to the other house are of her drinking wine while taking her medicine. Dawn’s was both very clear an unclear, what did she die from? I think she was the one that manifested her own demise the most, while she was more aware of the surrounding issues and wanting to escape it, I think she was still very worried about it and it made her literally worry herself to death in the form of an illness that got worse. I said Edith’s was childbirth, and was similar to her mother’s as she was very close to getting rid of the overhanging thoughts of death but yet still thought on them a lot, especially being the "only surviving Finch" I also think her writing this all down may have put similar issues onto her son as he was clearly visiting the Finch house. Now Milton is another story :]

    Fun Fact! I'm from Washington, and Orcas Island is an actual place! I go to the neighboring island, Lopez, most summers for camping, and it is one of the most beautiful, out-of-the-way places in the world. 1000/10 recommend visiting! Also as soon as I saw the foxglove flowers and the evergreen trees I knew it was based in the PNW lol. Also, foxglove is a great motif for this creepy story, as the flowers are extremely poisonous and cause heart attacks!

  • @TenTonNuke
    @TenTonNuke Жыл бұрын

    Most of the deaths are pretty obvious, but the ones that weren't clear were: Molly: Ate holly berries along with toothpaste and gerbil food. Died of poisoning. Barbara: Probably the most ambiguous death. Did her fans show up and kill her? Did the boyfriend come back for one last scream? Did the cannibal killers show up and eat her, leaving only her ear behind? Gus: Though it showed him being hit by a tent, it is actually believed he died when the totem pole fell on him. This is why the totem pole is on its side when you're walking the beach. Edie: Likely heartbreak plus combining medication with alcohol (they say she was "gone" but I don't think that means she ran away, as Edie has refused to leave the house all her life). It's also possible she got confused in her old age (the fog) and tried to make it out to the old house.

    I'm not sure y'all will see this, but I have a suggestion for Evan's wrist. I have the exact same issue, brought on by repetitive strain. Sadly, the brace doesn't really help because the issue is in the shoulder, but to make using a mouse easier, look into the Logitech M570. It's a thumb-ball style mouse, so you don't actually have to move your hand to use it. I find it works perfectly well for casual gaming like the type y'all do, and it's quite comfortable. A good wrist-cushioned mousepad and I think it'll really help. I wish you well, Evan, this injury has affected me for years, and probably will forever, but there are ways to cope. Also, I loved watching y'all play this game. I played it through a while back and it's sooo good. You should look into Outer Wilds as well. Same developer, beautifully done game and story, I think Evan especially would really appreciate it.

    I'd really hoped that Edith wouldn't die, but not only did she die, SHE DIED JUST AFTER GIVING BIRTH. And her little baby boy putting flowers on his mom's grave didn't help with the sadness either. It's an amazing game, but I'm a sucker for happy endings. Very much "the mist" vibes.

    This is such a beautiful and creative game. This game is definitely unique, but it also reminds me of a few things lol, i.e.: - We Happy Few (w/ the artstyle) - Encanto (bcos of the personalised bedrooms) - Meet the Robinsons (w/ the eccentric nature & individuality of each character) - Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (w/ such unique individuals & their large house) - It Takes Two (especially Lewis' story) - Dark Shadows (bcos of the family curse), etc.

    The art style in Milton's room, and the style of the words off on the sides while the narrator speaks, it reminds me of a game called the Unfinished Swan I played back when the PS4 first came out.

    I feel like Milton is most certainly alive. When you view his story, you watch the flipbook, the game doesn't take you into a sub-game of some sort to tell you his story. Also, when you draw his portrait in the family tree, he seems to have a distinct style separate from everyone else. Maybe I'm just reading too much into things, but I think that's the intention the developers wanted, pp to read into the story and think of things themselves.

    Living in an area with no scorpions it feels really surprising to here you guys talk about getting stung by a scorpion so casually! I thought those things were lethal? Is that innacurate?

    I’m from the same area of Texas as Evan and katelyn are, and no, the scorpions here aren’t lethal. I believe there are lethal kinds, but not the ones living here unless you’re allergic.

    Massage therapy and physical therapy exercises will help Evan's wrist. I'm a massage therapist. Also using a mini foam roller and foam rolling both of you guys wrists will help, but I'd suggest before and after gaming. But the pinched nerve could also be that he needs neck support when sleeping
