So I cant stress this enough, listen to your surroundings while working, this call was on a walk in cooler that had some issues but using my senses I found the other walk-ins were down too.

Chris, you mentioned giving someone coffee. A friend was working in Albania, and this is a former communist country. The black market flourished there, as did bribery. When my friend's son got injured there and needed to go to the doctor, he went to the emergency room and saw a big line there. He offered to buy the doctor a cup of coffee, who accepted, and they saw his son right away. My friend didn't believe in using bribery, but figured everyone can use a cup of coffee.

Hey Chris! Apartment maintenance guy here. I recently subscribed to your channel to take advice from professionals in other industries. I can tell that you do your absolute best to take care of your customers; just like I take care of my residents. It's great to see this mentality in other industries. Thank you for helping to restore my faith in humanity.

When replacing that fan motor, I wonder if it would be nice to have a hunk of cardboard handy (maybe the box for the new motor) and put that on top of the coil before dropping the old motor. That should help a lot with smashing the fins or any worry about a bolt on the motor maybe punching thru a tube.

I saw it too. It must have been in partially still in the end. I checked back on some of the comments to see if others noticed it. A little bit of luck was needed on that procedure.
At first, the location seemed familiar, and seeing your handwriting at 2:33 confirmed it. That's a fairly-recent job, I remember watching the video. Kudos to your apprentice for taking the Big Picture Diagnosis to heart. That probably saved the client from making another emergency call later that night - probably saved them money from ruined product - and eliminated the possibility the client would suspect sabotage due to yet-undiscovered failures.
I love the fact your show the real world way of HVACR not the text-book doesn't really exist outside of the class-room.
I love your little mention about KZread paying you if we watch the whole vid. Don't worry mate it's too easy to watch the whole episode without skipping. Seriously appreciate how thorough you are with these systems. I used to struggle wrapping my head around the process of refrigeration when I was taught on aircons, your channel has absolutely propelled me into the refrigeration side. Thanks Chris!
Gotta love that calibrated elbow! 😎
Love your real world approach to your videos. We all can preach proper practices.....its just not always feasible. Another great video Chris
I wear the hat everyday in my workplace. It is very awesome. Flex fit feels nice. Material is soft and stretchable. You won't really know until you get one, but definitely worth a buy.
HVAC tech is such an underrated trade. I would hire you over many red seal electricians. You also have plumbing skills better than most plumbers and watching you braze I can tell you would be an excellent welder! Way to go!
The kindness comment was great. Very respectful attitude. I completely agree.
When an apprentice does something like you said i know it used to send a real like through me as i had managed to get his head out of ... and was going for it for himself. You can teach without doing a thing ,just point there nose at the job.
Your genuine smile when you talked about your apprentice noticing the other compressor not running was very wholesom
Very cool that you not only make videos, but teach the next generation how to make repairs.
Nice tip: dollar store tooth brush and glue a small piece of Emory cloth on the bristles. Easiest way to and in tight places with flexible head. You're welcome
Great job. You saved yourself a crapy late night call with all the other problems caught. Don’t give the apprentice too much crap on the UEI he just bought the wrong model I love mine, and truth how many of us have those tools in the backup toolbox, lol.
I wonder what it's like to do this where I live when it's -30F? The Joke in my restaurant is if the Freezer goes bad is just leave the food outside, but it might get freezer burn from being outside.
I learn more from these videos than I do working with any of the bum j-man the company I work for employs. Thanks again!
You know I keep hearing you talking about the torque on a filter drier. I have never used a open end torque wrench. In fact I didn’t even know that they existed until I looked them up on Amazon during this video. I just can’t see spending a $100 plus $$ for open end torque wrenches. Granted I have only been doing this for about 7 years but I have never seen or heard of anyone using an open end torque wrench on flare nuts. I don’t believe it is necessary. Just keep doing you. Thanks for the video. I learn a lot from your videos. Again thanks.

Thank you for including teaching aspects to another tech in this video, as a technician in training, it helped a lot to hear the training side with the technical side. Great job!
Great video as usual. You take the time to show and teach some important details and the overall procedure.
You ain't playing about the state of affairs of this world and how overly ridiculous people conduct themselves towards others and what a lack of respect there is. Rough times ahead be prepared. Another great learning tool here and if I am in this trade in the future I will definitely be in support of this good cause. Shout outs from the Lone Star State. We like our Air Conditioners running cold out here.
Sounds like the making of a well rounded tech
Having done mechanical demo for 10 years, I have basic knowledge of how things "normally" look. We power wash AC rooftop units at work, and on a couple occasions, I found things that were wrong with them, and let maintenance know. Once we had a unit with a bad fan motor. I don't do electrical work on them, other than to lock out the power before doing any cleaning on them.
Looking great in 4K! Really clear picture.
55:00 I am getting the impression that people are still used to the empty streets of lockdown times. Traffic behaviour has become significantly more negligent since the pandemic.
Thanks for all the info in this video. Been watching your videos for awhile now and it’s helping me in the field 🙏🏼
Surprise surprise Chris releases a new video, let get the adult beverage and popcorn out 😜😜😜😜
IDK why everyone hates on UEI meters because they're actually decent meters. I bought a UEI Phoenix when I was in school which was almost 10 years ago and I still use that meter to this day. The screen is a little messed up but it's still working just fine. It's outlived all my harbor freight meters I had prior to buying it.

@@Rado88 - Because they sell to a price point. Some of their stuff is decent, some is crap, a very few things are quite good. For a real example, I bought a 1/2" hammer drill from HF rather than rent one. I needed to use it off and on for about a week. Buying it cost me less than half of what renting "a good one" would have been, especially considering the days I had it and couldn't use it due to weather. I still have it, it still works fine. Some of their wood oriented power tools are actually pretty good. I have a 40" square tube lathe that's lasted 20 years, so far, for the light duty I use it for. I just had to have the power switch replaced six months ago(it slagged), but that'd happen to a high end one too. So, if you need a tool for light duty, or very occasional work, consider them. If you want one that you beat every single day - then go hunt the thrift stores and garage sales for old Craftsman sets.
Wanderful video ! Just finish Half of my hvac/ refrigeration school ! Very helpful! Thank you

That amount of vibration could have caused one of the connectors that was cut off to go open circuit. The short in the wire may only make contact briefly because of vibration.
That system is on it's way to the heap . Sometimes people don't appreciate the above and beyond repairs on old stuff, you could have easily said it was beyond repair, or like me(now) call someone else. I do appreciate the videos! Great video, and great explanations. Although I understood about 1 out of ever 10 words you spoke. I don't speak techno. I'm not a refrigerator or ac repair person. I just like to watch people fix them and explain what is wrong, how they diagnosed it and how they fixed it.

The cameraman did a good job at the brazing.
Another great job 👍👍👍
thanks for the awesome vids!
My bet is that the next leaks are going to be on the coil side of the end flanges where the spider tube to coil repairs you just did were done. That copper tubing is so thin for heat transfer that the corrosion from the food and moisture in the walk in makes it as thin as aluminum foil where it gets pitted where it goes through the aluminum fins.

I love the UEI meters. They are the best in the business.
I work for a school district this video with all those multiple leaks on the evaporator is why I make them replace evaporator‘s. I don’t repair them anymore. Every time I repair one then Balik somewhere else eventually. They lose all the food. My experience with evaporators just once they start leaking they got to get some new equipment it’ll just keep on leaking.
48:58 - If you really want to braze with nitrogen in this case, you could remove the old filter dryer and feed the nitrogen directly into the line down to the evaporator.

While replacing motor on these racks, I use cardboard box 📦 from New motor and put under the motor to prevent coil from accidental damage
Was just talking about that with a friend how this country is turning very bitter, god forbid you make a joke and someone feels offended by it. Once in awhile you need to laugh it’s good for ya. I agree with the craziness people are just nuts out there!!
Another question, why didn't you just check the liquid level while pumped down to verify how much was lost before filling and other diagnostics? Isn't that why you mark the level when installing?
dude you are awesome
Great vid- have been following for a while. I've been in the biz for 38 years and continue to learn something new every day. Thanks in part to your content. What are your thoughts (and everyone else that follows) on EZ Seal? I have used it when there are multiple micro leaks with good success.
Lay cardboard on the condenser to help protect it.
You should show the liquid level in the receiver after unseating the king valve just just show the difference for fun.
An m18 die grinder would be awesome for cleaning with the right bita
Is there a good reason not to use a lower temp solder to cover those leaks when you are not running nitrogen? I know you need to clean up the copper more.
Glad to see you using crescent wrenches instead of channel locks. It' a wonderful gift from God to comfortably share your knowledge with us.

18:37, coulda swore that distribution tube popped off. 42:24 , could you have just weighed in that amount marked on the receiver if the charge was fully removed? Given the amount recovered would have been low from leaks? Also, what type of thermal camera is that?
