Hurricane Katrina Abandoned Amusement Park 6 Flags New Orleans
Slide show of Hurricane Katrina ravaged amusement park on the edge of New Orleans in 2008. This place is rapidly being reclaimed by nature yet at the time I was there and took the pictures, it was eerily undisturbed. It seemed as if nothing had laid hand to it since the days of the storm save for a few animals that had made it their home. There was no graffiti at the time and very minor vandalism. I have been in a number of abandoned and destroyed sites all over the place but this was one of the eeriest by far.

I do not know why, but i am completely fascinated with this place. I love to watch many different videos and compare how it's changed over the years. It's getting swallowed up by nature.
I feel so bad for all of the toys ):
I don't quite understand why they didn't even prepare for the storm. They didn't board up anything, and left all the merchandise out! It looks as if everyone didn't even bother to put things away when the shift ended, and just walked away without a care in the world. This makes me sad.
Place still rots, as of 2023, first Katrina destroyed this park, then vandals and scrappers just came and they started destroying the already devastated park. It's just sad to see this toys laying here. But they are gone, every item and prop is gone expect for rotting rides and buildings that are graffited. Even sign at the entrance is now destroyed, it's not showing six flags sign, just saying closed for storm. Also Nature reclaimed the property, with many wildlife finding a new home.
If I lived around there, I would restore the place myself and open the park! Who's with me!!

I went there before the storm and had a great time but to see it like this just made cry :(
0:25 the place where batman the ride used to give fun and now, it's still giving fun to those people who are going on at Six flags fiesta Texas :
I want that bart toy!!
This is so sad. I'm from Toronto Canada. What a waste. I want those stuffed animals but they are gone now. It's 2020.
It's a shame that they didn't clean it up and try to at least salvage some of it. I can't get over how many stuffed animals there were and the decent condition they were in.
Outstanding!!! Thanks for posting!
This is really sad. All those children who can't go to six flags in their area because it was destroyed. The roller coasters that still stand but the things around it that have fallen shattered and broken. I remember how badly i wanted to go back in 2003. We were going to go that same year Katrina took the park. Upsetting. It's just devistating.
It doesn't look like any one has looted or vandalized the park. Very interesting.
It sad to see this. I went there when it opened just as Jazzland and it was amazing. Didn't go back when Six Flags bought it out. But I'm amazed still at how they let it go like that.
all of those toy wondering if there owner will come back to get them ;(
I feel so bad for all these people that experienced this and it's said to see a nice amusement park going and looking like this they could have cleaned it out right after the water went away instead of waiting for 10 years and now it's rotting I went there one time after the hurricane and went into six flags and left just because of what I seen this is so so sad
Thos poor stuffies :(
@circusboy90210 SALT water, however, corrodes the crap out of electrical components and can render the entire ride very dangerous to operate, if operable at all. They would have to rewire every single electrical connection that had been submerged, whether to a control panel or a light bulb. The cost would be prohibitive unless the investor was certain they would get enough of a return to make the investment worthwhile.
Some of that stuff would make some awesome souvenirs like if there were signs and FREE STUFFED ANIMALSSSSS a good amount were good as new

People could take them, they're now free :)
@VegasLady1970 Actually, New Orleans had a 60 year contract with the Six Flags Amusement Park Corporation (might not be the correct name) to run the park, of which, only 6 years had passed. New Orleans sued Six Flags for not abiding to the contract and won the fight. Six Flags bailed out of the park probably cause they felt they would lose less money paying for breach of contract than attempting to rebuild the park.
for all the surviving teadys they should of just washed them and get resold
Who would steal all those abandoned plushes on that park? >:) Who else is watching this 10 years later (2020)? This appeared on my recomend page
some of those pictures looked amazing must of been creepy going there
1:56 , looks like DDR has seen better days.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
Dammit I wanted one of those statues outside the Batman ride.
Aw all those ride things look so fun...
I notice that place! It's Jazzland!!! It was a theme park in Louisiana and it was bought by six flags. I remember the rides kept over heating and breaking down when I went.

Six Flags New Orleans was previously known as Jazzland. It opened in 2000 and closed in 2005.
very errie but you have taken some lovely pictures aside from the subjects of course
awwww :( at least some of the roller coasters are still in good shape.....this is sad
they are not going to restore the park... if you go to the six flag website you can see that they just took it off their website.

if I had the money I would buy that park and reopen for people in new orlean and I would find someone that could get some of the rides working again the city of new orlean should be trying to get the park up and running again so they can make some damn money

Owen all six flags are different and has there charm Six flags magic mountain has the charm of the dirtyness and loudness six flags fiesta texas has the charm of the rock wall and the landscape Sixflags new orleans had the best charm with the 2 lakes, mega zepth. But theres a facebook group called Jazzland that has the money and funding to reopen the park. Also there was many memories made at this park. Also Mega Zepth and the second best drop on a rollercoaster.
i bet most of the toys are gone by now lol
@panpanfarmason ;) i can imagine but why did you only uploaded this now ?
Seansy59 im with ya we should restore it
This is such a shame. :(
Does it still look like that? With all of the toys and things still there? Oh gosh i want to go there before they get rid of it all!
The people from Nickelodeon were looking to buy and work with it.
I feel sorry for the toys...
This makes me soooo sad!
There was no graffiti bc six flags was still owning the site
It's so sad
The power is still cut off...
@EP1KCAMPER I didn't hear about this being torn down...where do you get your info? :-/

So sad to see all those stuffed animals there :/
All the toys, games, ect. Has been taken by scrapers and stuff as of 2010
How sad!! I hear its being demolished in Jan.2011
I know there's been talk of a new owner taking it up but from what I can see, it might be cheaper just to build a new theme park than all the effort it'll take cleaning this up and getting it into operation shape.
i went there when i was little with my mom and dad and sis and i remember riding the water logs and i went up front and i got soaked goo times i also saw that some one put 'welcome to zombie land kids!' on the small welcom sign so please dont take or do anything more before they demolish it
i didnt know new orleans had any amusement parks, but then again i never been there.
Nice choice of music! (though seriously, couldn't you have let the video run five seconds longer and not chopped the end of the song?) Great photographs of a fascinating and sad site.
Yeah they've sold some of the salvagable rides to other six flags parks, the mega zeph, jester and the batman ride are in progress of disassembling and re-locating, the parks land is owned by new orleans and the other rides may be able to fetch a weigh in sum but sadly never be able to fetch laughter and joy anymore.... RIP six flags new orleans...

They didnt sell them they just relocated them cause sixflags is kinda owned by 1 person
Quick! Free prizes!
when people visit this park, could they just take the teddy bears for free? or weren't you allowed?
all those dead animals ;o( poor things.
Great pictures! Creepy tho.
omg dude those video game machines are worth a lot of money
Yep!
Wow look at the prizes strewn about...
I feel so sorry for the Teddy's they will have no nice home I wich I could go and get them all and give them a nice home
wow, the song, and the sign makes me think of left 4 dead 2! just missing the "closed due to sickness" instead of storm, and there you go! oh and of course, missing the zombies, but whatever :P
@TheMarkc It's a giant stuffed dog wearing a cape. Some old cartoon character from the 80's I think...
What happened in kentucky one?
@panpanfarmason whats that @1:05?
DAMN U HURRICANE KATRINA
@lovesushi92 they did state a while back that this one was loosing money and I do believe that they are not going to re-open it but instead demolish it and build houses or something, that's the last i herd of it.. shame another great park gone....
This is FEMA's Legacy
So sad. :(
Not anymore nick decided not to but another company is attempting cleanup
You could still ride some of those rides

i heard nickelodean is making a theme park out of this
@meezyrmcrs4ever I did, over 3 years ago now. I was with a friend at the time though. It was a major creepshow and I can't really imagine cruising in there all by my lonesome.
0:28 Batman the ride entrance?
I would grab all the stuffed animals for my kids
@thecrapsmasher How old do you have to be?
They don't go back because the insurance will pay out so it's there land now, Then when the market is right they will sell it of to big businesses for high profit... Just go there and take what you want. I will not tell anyone:)
@Kitkat3304 they did come backe but the workers walked around and half the park was destroyed so they closed it down
welp ....... start scrapping !!!!!!
