I think the cap she wears is supposed to act as a safety assurance..if the wind is strong enough to take off her cap, it would be a signal to get the eff out of there

@Art Vandelay Oh Art. I'm Canadian. Oops on that one. ;) Besides. You and I both know there are far more American 'reporters' on those beaches today than Canadian.

I'm glad people listened and evacuated. Even if the winds aren't that bad, the water is no joke. My uncle lives by the river in Jacksonville, NC and he left. He's been through a few hurricanes and said the only thing irreplaceable is your life. Hope the ones who stayed get through safely and the ones who left have something to come back to. I live in Hubert, it's between swansboro and jacksonville. We got lucky cause a tree fell and only swiped our house. Slightly more to the side, and it wouldve landed fully onto our home. We evacuated to Knoxville, TN and it took a week to get home slowly. Stayed 2 days in Knoxville, then 2 days in SC's capital, then 2 days in Raleigh, then finally got home. At one point trying to get home, because we were running out of money, an 18 wheeler offered to drive just ahead of us across this really flooded road, cause his wheels push the water away from us. I freaked out cause water started to flood into the car from under the door. Only half an inch or so, and it soaked into the floor, but it scared me so bad. 0/10 would not like to go through that again.

I remember this....great old memories..

I lived in Jacksonville for a time, luckily we had long been moved before this. Soooo scary. I sat through Sandy, she was supposed to hit ENC but she went around us and hit the jersey shore instead.

It flooded a tad in oak island and my friends house was swaying, it was low-key terrifying. Despite the dunes in front of the house.

I'm happy someone let us know what's happening. Stay in shelter! Thank you.

Eheheh this is how we got our kitties :) Basically at my Dads work, There was a cat that had kittens. Hurricane Florence was going to hit, so the owner asked someone to take them in. Ofc, My Dad chose to take them in. We still have our fur babies to this day!

This was the storm that awakened my love for meteorology. I am now hoping to pursue an education and career as a broadcast meteorologist specifically in the mid west.

I was actually in florence and in Wellington Nc, still live in nc just away from the cost. Florence took my grandpa so when I say this, dont stay mad at family, because you'll never know if they'll be here today and gone tomorrow, god bless

How come metric units are used wind speed when usa uses the imperial system? There is a huge difference between the two. 100mph is 160kmh.
