Hunting Pigeon: Cooking at the Bushcraft Camp | Field Dressing, Axe, Knife, Cast Iron Roast
Ойын-сауық
Bushcraft: Cooking Pigeon at the bushcraft camp which I field dress and put in a cast iron dutch oven over the fire. I begin by building the new enlarged fire pit at the medieval bushcraft camp. Using large stones to surround the fire pit, I then add a layer of sand over the concrete base. I get a big fire going and then use the lid of the dutch oven to quick fry some pigeon breast in garlic butter. I then roll on some footage of hunting and field dressing pigeon with my 12 bore at my friends farm. Later I cook up a full pigeon roast with fresh organic vegetables harvested from my homestead garden.

Love the silence in the videos. When you work , listetning to the tools, the fire crackling. No music. Very calming and nice

Those ants were definitely looking to steal that pigeon. Port wine is excellent for cooking with, it adds a wonderful rich flavor to so many dishes and is a secret ingredient to my spaghetti sauce, I use port instead of just normal red wine. 👍
Pigeon looks delicious!
Never apologize for taking game for food. It's what they're there for. Nice recipes for it. Very nice video Mike, thank you.

I laughed pretty hard when you started whipping the dirt from the fire pit and I thought grab some cloth or something to get the rest off, then boom huge pile of dirt! 😂
It is My live....so Great
what a lovely motor that is
Nice Hunting, in this area people go dove hunting. They are a lot harder to hit. Unfortunately, there are some people do believe meat magically appears in the supermarket. Another hot and humid day here 35 c.

Excellent picked you up from your Totally Awesome dad. Takes me back to my youth on my mates farm shooting pigeons and skin them cut out the breast, small fire skewers from twigs instant lunch. Also used to shoot rabbits on a country estate to stop them destroying the formal gardens, always left a brace on the Lords steps and then sold the rest round our local village. Thanks Mike for a Totally awesome throwback.
Nice shooting 👍👍

Really appreciate your content 🤝
Top video as usual.
Dang that 90 is beautiful
Like the Defender. Nice plate
Ants are a great protein :) Great Video.
Looks good
An elongated fire pit, as you made, is a great idea. We made an 8-footer at our primitive camp which, as you say, gives a great number of cooking options. Also, it allowed camp persons who came out of the winter woods to stand near the fire and warm up.
i love watching TA outdoors ❤️❤️
Awesome as always!!! Keep it up!!! In the US that’s called a Rock Dove.
Nice shooting
Finaly a new video !! 😃

Good to see you back out Mike I’m not sure why you feel you have to explain yourself it’ sure beats what animals go through in Abattoirs thanks for posting
Great video
Can't wait to see if you're doing anything else on the Bunker
this was a really cool video.
Beautiful car you got there!
Awesome
Butter and garlic for flavour and moisture and the meat just to carry the garlic and butter.
Your the best
Great video. No unnecessary music which too often spoils the whole thing. Good to see you demonstrate how food actually gets on the table.
I prefer "Autumn"... even though I'm across the pond. I think I'll adopt it.
Good stuff!
Excellent video matey! Just a couple of points which might be helpful if I may. When you put your gun in the slip, you checked the chambers were clear (perfect), but then you closed the gun and pulled the triggers! (Click,Click) Spending a few quid on a pair of snap-caps can save a lot of money. (Dropping the 'hammers' on empty chamber tends to break the strikers - firing pins.) Your Bushcraft knife is a rusty, horrible mess!! It appears to be made from O2 or similar high-carbon steel. HC Steel takes and holds a fantastic edge, but rusts like crazy if you don't look after it! Get yourself a 50gm tobacco tin, put in a clean 12"X12" piece of cotton or towelling cloth saturated with Camellia Oil. After you use you knife, wash/clean/dry it, then wipe it over with the oiled cloth. It will never rust again! Then only use it for Bushcraft tasks! (Scrubbing your knife blade with some medium/fine grade wire wool dipped in oil, should remove the rust and restore it to a better condition.) Instead, spend £10 or so, and buy a Mora Pro-S knife for more mundane food prep and cooking cooking tasks. They are absolutely fantastic! Last point. You quite rightly stated that the pigeons you shot were part of a crop protection plan - Not just for the table. However, Wood Pigeon are not classed as 'Vermin', the are classed as 'Agricultural pests'. There are so many 'Anti's', 'Haters', call them what you will out there, who will take every opportunity to condemn what we quite legitimately and legally do. Don't fall victim to PC technicalities!! Hope this makes sense matey as it is well intentioned. Keep safe. Best regards.
Your the best...
I have fallen in love with that forest! Something about the subtle colors and light are so enchanting. Also love that cooking-pit set up. 😉🇨🇦👍🌲 I challenged myself to watch the hunt. You are right, many people are not in touch with where their food comes from.👍
While I live for these videos, I do not live for the sound of metal on stone right off the bat.
I'm a lot in the nature in the Netherlands, but I can't recall if I've ever seen pigeons in the wild, I only know them from city squares

It’s because birds aren’t real. Covid only happened so they could change the batteries in the birds
I wish we could all live like this.
That was really lovely thank you. Try soaking prunes in Port wine over night and stuffing the pigeon with them to cook, the flavour is really yum. :) Works for all game bird.
It’s a great way of living👌 And Bless you for sharing this to people 🍃
Love watching your videos, just brilliant an amazing
Actually, we say "autumn" and "fall" interchangeably here in America: six of one, half a dozen of the other.
