Yea Craig I enjoy your videos but I can’t afford sales at Safeway much less some hummer driving “fresh food” option. Boxed Mac and cheese is a luxury now a days. And my bus pass is cool the bus uses less fuel than your hummer

Craig, I think you should have gone to Walmart and bought a cheap tarp and a few bungee cords, throw the tarp over it when you leave it sitting all night or whenever you had the top off. Would have helped during the rain too.😊

Crazy how much difference a few years makes. My 97 has an overdrive transmission. Dual fuel tanks. More sound deadening in the interior. 4 speakers for the stereo. (Plus bluetooth a couple subs and a backup cam now). AND a turbo.. It'll cruise 65-70 no problem hauling my 22ft speedboat. Road tripped it from Ohio to Colorado, Wyoming, an Montana last year. Over 5k miles on that one trip and loved every minute of it!
Turbo kits for the non-turbos run about 5 k or so. Should add enough power to get that up to highway speeds.
@nothingtoseaheardammit

Not recommended as the NA 6.5 doesn't have the correct head studs to take the increased pressure (and heat) of a turbo.
Wow, I couldn’t tell if you were mad at the storm or yourself for taking the top off.

A quick tip for sudden rain storms, I always carried a cheap above ground pool cover in my jeep back in the day, call it the bathing cap if you will. Quick ,easy and folds right up. I would go all summer without ever having to put the roof on, worked awesome, just F.Y.I. Cheers from Canada.

I've got a couple 998s. I drive em daily when it's not cold. I love driving them. People wave and they love it. Driving them on the highway is great. Mine don't feel under powered. I can hit 80 no problem if I need to. His must have a problem not hitting over. 40
Best episode you have done yet. :) Funny, informative, memorable!
Now it needs a flood title. 😂 Luckily it looks like no water problems.
Him struggling to put top on and cussing is literally a every day thing of being a dealer when nothing goes your way lmao
I drive a military HMMWV M1152 as a daily driver and while you have noted most the issues with driving a Humvee correctly, I have no issues driving 70 to 85 mph with the ECV model and 65 mph with the older model Humvee with the 6.5L and turbo 400 3 spd transmission. People who ask me about driving a Humvee, I say it's a fat, squatty jeep that doesn't go fast, doesn't hold much and gets really crappy fuel milage, otherwise it's great offroad vehicle. Military Humvee fuel tanks hold 25 gallons and if it has an auxiliary, an additional 15 gallons. As for putting on the soft top, it is easiest to lay it upside down over the hood, roll the leading edge bead through the channel and work it from the front back finishing with the rear corners and the rear curtain. Before this, I use to drive a M923a2 5 ton troop carrier as my daily driver. Parking was probably the worse aspect with it.
I’ve never been a convertible guy. I would speculate that the wagon maybe more useful, but not practical. At least y’all had fun in it!

Towed a trailer loaded with ATVs 600Km through monutains etc. Never an problem and totally fun, although I spent a bloody fortune restoring the truck top to bottom. Since then drives fantastic. And it is an HCM4 so no soft top to fight with either. 😉

I daily drive my 03 Hummer H1 up here in Maine. It's frankly awesome. It's so fun to drive - with my P400 6.5 its got more power than the Alpha Duramax H1s and gets 14mpg. I don't think you're giving it a fair shake honestly. As far as dimensions are concerned, its not as wide as a F150 Raptor and its got the same overall length as a Toyota Camry. The sheer ignorance on display here is mind boggling.

The Duramax conversion by Predator Inc will make this experience much better. The Factory H1 engine only has around 170 HP which is atrocious for a vehicle that weighs so much. That's why it's so slow. The Duramax conversion fixes that problem and adds 465 HP with 1100 ft lbs of torque.

I drove in one on a 4 hr trip. Cant believe anyone would buy one of these.7 miles a gallon. The center console reminded me of the garbage trucks I used to drive
The rain scene was pretty funny 😁
Putting the top on must have been so aggravating but that was hilarious to watch.
The blue is a great color for that. Wish more cars came in real colors. And that radio placement is fantastic.
Hey Craig, I'm a recent subscriber and watch your videos all the time now. Not that I'm interested in buying or selling cars but because I like cars and just like how you do your videos. Some of them actually make me think that I could even do it myself but you make it look so easy (I know it's not). Anyway, I live in Maine and don't need a new car or really even want a new car but the next time I do I'm gonna buy one from you just cuz I see how you and your team turn some of these turds into gold.
Any idea of how warm it would be in the winter? It would be a killer winter vehicle. You might want to build a bigger garage if you keep buying bigger rides like this. What’s next, a semi with a car hauler trailer? I have to admit, it’s a pretty cool truck.
i daily drove my 97 h1 6.5l turbo for over 2 years and loved every day of it.!! except for dutch brothers drive throughs lol :P
I hate myself for saying----- it was funny as hell getting the top on during the rain. Best video ever. : )
The thing is: it's a special purpose vehicle. In other words, it does what it was designed to do, really well...that is: off road. It's like trying to drive a NASCAR stock car, or a Formula 1 car, or an IMSA race car. I had to laugh at you putting the top on in the rain, I've had to do that SO many times on my boat.....what the hell is that? as a dark cloud comes out of no where and you scramble as everyone else piles into the cabin to stay dry. I was caught in one it was raining so bad I couldn't see the bow of my boat 20' away.
The main tank is 25 gallons. What you likely had was a bad fuel gauge telling you that you were empty while you still had 10 gallons left. My low fuel light comes on when I still have 7 gallons left in the tank. You can't get OEM soft tops anymore from AM General - there's a company called Rubberduck 4x4 that makes aftermarket soft tops. The 94 had no turbo (thankfully it had 4 gears). Get rid of those stupid wheels and tires as soon as you can as they are actively killing your ball joints even when its parked and not moving.
Dude how funny. I think I saw a video of you dallying a Bentley CGT before I brought one home on a flatbed. now its back and forth between the two for me!
I just visited the tea party museum last September. It was awesome being in Boston. I'm from the Midwest
You know what we call meteorologists in Las Vegas? Weather guessers.
Dude, you didn't do your Homework. You got a 30 year old civilian HUMMER ...kinda the equivalent of getting in a model T Ford! FWIW: The "HUMMER H1" model did not even come out until the 2001 model year.
When you said you're headed to the auction with that thing. I honestly thought you were going to say to drop it off!
Just putting a tonneau back on a ute is a pain in the arse. Great video mate, keep it up👍
Lol deff grinding all that mud on your shoes right into the center console thing. The middle is so high because of the portal axles humers have for ground clearance.
Great Baller video Craig.

When the wheels start spinning while off-roading, hold the brakes and gas at the same time to engage all 4 wheels. Those have limited slip diffs that operate based on grip
I used my 1996 H1 as a daily driver and only vehicle for 20 years. Yes, it probably had to go in for repair a few times a year but otherwise rock solid.

@@JamesCurtis-sf7pf I should have clarified. For the most part, it would be required maintenance. Replace fluids, check over stuff. With that said just like any vehicle, after a few years parts start to wear down and need to be replaced, like tires and whatever else. I cant ever imagine an EV lasting 20 years in the New England weather like mine is.

agreed. Main tank is usually 25 and the secondary tank on my civilian 96 is about 14.
I’m guessing you got a three speed non turbo. 50-60mph will be the top The four speed should pull 70mph ish The turbo version will get up a bit better too
The fuel fill is huge like that because the military fuels from huge off-road diesel tanks. The nozzle in like 2" in diameter. BTW, every day is a great day for a Hummer.

I do want to make one point. The H1 needs engine updates, which are expensive but make a massive difference. I have 20 grand into my truck already and I love it. It accelerates like my Toyota. Your truck has a beautiful $8,000 paint job, $3,000 rims, $2,500 tires, $3,000 Predator brush guard but zero engine work. The money was spent, but on the wrong stuff

What motor work is done? Turbo kit?
@FrenchedRacks
Жыл бұрын
@@bebin73 I got everything from RubberDuck4x4. High output injectors, injector pump and fuel lift pump. Bigger turbo with intercooler, upgraded radiator fan and free flowing exhaust. 40" tires on Cepek rims, which really do improve handling and lower your engine rpm's over the stock 37". Finally a tune up. The horsepower is about double now but the responsiveness is night and day. Its not a Predator 750 hp Duramax for $75,000 but it was a very effective $14,000 package that provides 350 hp (stock is 195) makes the H1 a lot of fun to daily drive. I'm saving up for the cool exterior upgrades in the near future too.

@@FrenchedRacks I'm completely fine with the stock power of the turbo 6.5, the NA 6.5 is just a bit too gutless especially when the fan kick on, I'm looking at putting a 6.5 in a BRDM 2, if I can get 350hp out of it reliably, I'll be more than happy, that has to be around 700 Ft Ibs of torque

😂😂😂Man I know that sucked but it was hilarious!
What's funny is after driving a h1 on deployment then coming home... everything feels fast😂. Would love to own one, but wouldn't want to maintain them
“Why is it so stiff?” “Because it is meant to clear IEDs not potholes”
With extreme vehicles in any direction there are always going to be compromises, Hummers shine off-road as you said in the video...that is their designed purpose. Everything on the Hummer (like most military vehicles) is utilitarian and purpose built for a bvery specific job....it "Can" do things outside of it's designed purpose but not all that well as you found out. Also doesn't help that you are used to driving a vehicle that couldn't be more polar opposite so that doesn't help either.
I daily a 14 inch lifted dually on 42's, i could definitely daily that little thing 😂
The reason why the H1 gets such poor gas mileage with a diesel is that it weighs approximately FOUR TONS.
He's definitely a princess. That'd built for men.
