Crazy how much difference a few years makes. My 97 has an overdrive transmission. Dual fuel tanks. More sound deadening in the interior. 4 speakers for the stereo. (Plus bluetooth a couple subs and a backup cam now). AND a turbo.. It'll cruise 65-70 no problem hauling my 22ft speedboat. Road tripped it from Ohio to Colorado, Wyoming, an Montana last year. Over 5k miles on that one trip and loved every minute of it!

I drive a military HMMWV M1152 as a daily driver and while you have noted most the issues with driving a Humvee correctly, I have no issues driving 70 to 85 mph with the ECV model and 65 mph with the older model Humvee with the 6.5L and turbo 400 3 spd transmission. People who ask me about driving a Humvee, I say it's a fat, squatty jeep that doesn't go fast, doesn't hold much and gets really crappy fuel milage, otherwise it's great offroad vehicle. Military Humvee fuel tanks hold 25 gallons and if it has an auxiliary, an additional 15 gallons. As for putting on the soft top, it is easiest to lay it upside down over the hood, roll the leading edge bead through the channel and work it from the front back finishing with the rear corners and the rear curtain. Before this, I use to drive a M923a2 5 ton troop carrier as my daily driver. Parking was probably the worse aspect with it.

I don't think you're giving it a fair shake honestly. As far as dimensions are concerned, its not as wide as a F150 Raptor and its got the same overall length as a Toyota Camry. It's like trying to drive a NASCAR stock car, or a Formula 1 car, or an IMSA race car. I had to laugh at you putting the top on in the rain, I've had to do that SO many times on my boat.....what the hell is that? as a dark cloud comes out of no where and you scramble as everyone else piles into the cabin to stay dry. I was caught in one it was raining so bad I couldn't see the bow of my boat 20' away.

The main tank is 25 gallons. What you likely had was a bad fuel gauge telling you that you were empty while you still had 10 gallons left. My low fuel light comes on when I still have 7 gallons left in the tank. You can't get OEM soft tops anymore from AM General - there's a company called Rubberduck 4x4 that makes aftermarket soft tops. The 94 had no turbo (thankfully it had 4 gears). Get rid of those stupid wheels and tires as soon as you can as they are actively killing your ball joints even when its parked and not moving.

Bigger turbo with intercooler, upgraded radiator fan and free flowing exhaust. 40" tires on Cepek rims, which really do improve handling and lower your engine rpm's over the stock 37". Finally a tune up. The horsepower is about double now but the responsiveness is night and day. Its not a Predator 750 hp Duramax for $75,000 but it was a very effective $14,000 package that provides 350 hp (stock is 195) makes the H1 a lot of fun to daily drive. What's funny is after driving a h1 on deployment then coming home... everything feels fast😂. Would love to own one, but wouldn't want to maintain them

With extreme vehicles in any direction there are always going to be compromises, Hummers shine off-road as you said in the video...that is their designed purpose. Everything on the Hummer (like most military vehicles) is utilitarian and purpose built for a bvery specific job....it "Can" do things outside of it's designed purpose but not all that well as you found out. Also doesn't help that you are used to driving a vehicle that couldn't be more polar opposite so that doesn't help either.

The reason why the H1 gets such poor gas mileage with a diesel is that it weighs approximately FOUR TONS.

I'm sure it was crazy frustrating getting rained on trying to get the top on. was also very funny because we've all been there. I wonder if the center is the transmission up high to protect it for offroading?

Not sure what you are whinning about? I love my Humvee ..❤... My Girlfriend bought it for our company... It does everything you could ever want to do on four wheels .. Except going fast ... Unless you are driving down a beach... It will run 50 MPH on a Florida beach...😊
