I bought a Ridiculous H1 Hummer to Daily Drive but did I Over Pay? - Flipping $400 to a Ferrari

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

While I was down at a dealer auction in Florida I ended up buying a 1994 Hummer H1 and it is far cooler than I ever thought it would be.

Craig you did good. This H1 soft top can bring $65k on the low end and upwards of -$75k+ all day long if it’s under 50k miles. I’m a dealer principal for exotic and luxury dealer group in New England and also CarEdge/YAA member and I also owned GM dealerships that use to sell new Hummers all the way to mid 2000’s. I have lots of experience with Hummers and I know and understand current Hummer H1 market. You did good.

Craig, the middle conceals the drivetrain. If you look under the Hummer you will see the high ground clearance due to the drivetrain being shoved up into the cab.

Exactly they are hard to get stuck for damned sure. I remember driving around Hohenfels in one. It had rained hard the day before and we were in 2 feet of mud and my Cpt says hey can we stop here? I look and say "Sir, if we stop here we are not getting out, let me get to some dry ground".

I drove my buddies H1 after the bar because he was too drunk to drive. We immediately had a cop right on our azz and I had been drinking as well. The H1 takes up the entire lane and I managed to keep it inside the lines as I could tell the cop was just waiting for me to cross the line on either side. I managed to make it to our exit and the cop still followed me. After about 3 miles off the exit he gave up and turned away. I mean, he literally rode my azz and I thought I was done for. He drove about 5 feet from my rear bumper just waiting for a reason to pull me over. Thankfully I didn't panic or make a mistake. My buddy was literally puking in the passenger floor board while I was being tailed by the police at 2am. I thank my lucky stars for that blessing! It's a fun car that gets attention, but so, so not practical. You can't park it anywhere normal. Just a fun toy if you are wealthy.

Manners and respect cost nothing. It says a lot about the person, and you set a great example to your son. Love your videos, thanks for keeping me regularly entertained for free! 👍

Unfortunately I have much knowledge of the H1’s. My Division of a large insurer underwrote the Hummer Warranty program. Never, ever ever buy an H1 before the 1997 1/2 model year. 97 1/2 is when Hummer had fixed most of the problems. Most but not all as that engine was famous for the Block cracking. My first Hummer was a 96 and when I got rid of it after Warranty Claims for both the Engine and Transmission along with Paint and everything else you can imagine that my friends at Hummer covered under warranty for me. It had 7 pages of warranty claims totaling $42,000!!!! DON’T DAILY DRIVE IT, IT’S NOT WORTH THE RISK. DON’T LET ANYONE TEST DRIVE IT UNLESS YOU GO WITH THEM AND THEY ARE QUALIFIED TO BUY!!! When they aren’t broken they are amazing what they can do and where they can go. I spent a day at their training course, obstacle course, mud bog, and torture “track” and it is amazing. The civilian version, which you have, is built on a parallel assembly line and the only differences between civilian and military Hummers are mil spec connectors for the mil version and the civilian unit has A/C, nicer interior, insulation and a decent paint job. If they would only not break down. Oh, it’s not a Detroit Diesel, it’s a GM 6.2bi believe. It’s been a long time and I 70 now so some things are fuzzy but not how bad they can break. However, my 18 yr old son put it in some places only goats had seen before and when we thought it would take a heavy lift helicopter to extract it somehow he would get it out. Of course the 12k lb. Winch helped. Sell it, don’t drive it.
