How often do they repair the core ?

It seems to me that once the ship was repaired that should have left the system and got help. The swarm seemed to be very close to the system; even though it had been centuries since the ship was active. The crew seem to take on the ships mission and for get why they were there in the first place. There was no inquiries on what had happened after the ship became stranded. Just saying that I think the story needs some work and maybe a little less repetition of the same phrases over and over again.
