I can't get enough of heavy equipment construction vehicles. I'm 31 years old and have loved them since I was a kid. Never driven anything but a regular truck. I greatly admire the engineering put in the design of construction equipment - the physics to balance and lift loads, the placement of hydraulics, and of course all of the numerous unlabeled black levers that control them!

They are as much fun as you make them. From little 50 sized excavators all the way up to this beast they all have the same basic controls. For me the bigger the better. I have operated these beasts for most of my 70 years. Lovin every minute.
If you keep machines clean and in good condition the rewards are great. Keep the cab in good order, the seats in near new condition, etc. The operator will take pride in his job and will be more productive.

@@s.d.h.3t981 while I don't know how true it is, by washing something you are exposing it to water and likely more oxygen (because the dirt and grime are not protecting it any more) Oxygen being the key thing that makes iron into iron oxide aka rust. These rigs are ment to work so anything that doesn't directly harm work proformance isn't going to be worried about.
We have a RH 120 at the coal mine I work at. We also have a Cat 6030 that I operate. That front right damage seems to be consistent among the shovels. Our Cat and Terex both have almost identical looks dent. And the oil on the tracks, if there ani’t no oil under them there ani’t no oil in them.
I would guess this machine dates from the mid 1980’s which doesn’t mean it isn’t still working at this location to this day. You just don’t move them to another site. Also it is totally repairable if you have good machinists and diesel mechanics. What a beast!

Hey, it's Demolisher, Payload, and Skipjack!
That shovel operator is smooth as silk. The mechanics really appreciate operators like this. A little grease and a tank of fuel is all they need eh. Most of these machines have automatic grease systems. As a mechanic I saw over greasing a real pain to deal with. Having to dig in a load of dust fouled grease before getting to a service point. Coveralls covered with grease gets all over places. Esp the seat of my service truck. GRRRRR ! I could watch this all day long.

There is a bucket wheel strip miner excavator in the background. They are mostly used in strip mining with very large tonnage, usually in coal mines. Here we can see them removing overburden, the coal seem is probably a couple benches underneath. I'm just going off the video..

I looked up "nuclear power plants arround the world" and saw a couple in South Africa, lucky guess but I found a Nuclear power plant right beside a mine that looks like this, you can even see the bucket wheel excavator in google maps. What a BEAST!
This is a long shot asking on here about another behemoth. A very large front shovel (hydraulic) excavator used to sit not far from Highway 35E in what was later annexed by Waxahachie, TX. I think when this huge excavator ended up there it was not inside the city limits. Anyhow., I always thought the excavator was a Link Belt. For many years I would pass by there as a kid and always gaze in amazement of such a machine. Eventually the land it had sat on for years was sold to a church and the adjacent land owner had it moved onto their property before it disappeared. After it disappeared I asked all over what happened to it but got no answers. I happened to be just across the same highway making a heavy equipment purchase from where the huge excavator used to be located. Ended up hiring a local man to haul the equipment that I purchased. He happened to know how that big front shovel excavator came to rest nearby and unused all that time. His story told about a trucking company hired out of state back in the 1970's to haul the massive excavator to a mining outfit in Mexico. I don't recall him saying where the excavator began its journey being hauled. It was however mentioned that the trip thus far from another state had been long and difficult. The trucker got word that the order by the mining company for that excavator had been canceled while the machine was being hauled. And he wasn't going to get paid for at least the return trip or possibly none of it. At least that's the basic story told. So when the trucker found that service road exit and noticed nothing around, he unloaded the problem right there. That would explain why it sat there so long and unused, if the story is true. The trucker may have been so irate that he didn't bother to tell the dealer where the machine was left at. Just pure speculation on my part. Thought I would share this here in case it sounds familiar to any other heavy equipment addicts.
Only heavy and powerful machines! I go straight when matters are postagèns of machines,🤫😁👍🏻👍🏻

If the dumps just circled around the shovel would have to swing a lot farther around to load him, the way the trucks are is the least amount of swing from the digging face to dumping in the truck. Least amount of movement the better

You can't judge it by the outside. A bit of dirt doesn't hurt anything, it even protects the body from rust. You can go crazy about cleaning the outside but the machine doesn't care. As long as the bearings are greased and the engine is taken care of, all is well.
