    I am having exaclty same issue, my population is now about 340K , but starting from 290K, animation speed hit the ground, people, animals and vehicles worse than a turtle. I was thinking I did something wrong when setting up my city but now understand issue comes from core of the game.

    I remember a similar sort of issue with Cities Skylines 1, when you would speed up and slow the simulation. Where at the start of building a city, you could see the difference between the speeds, but as you got to a bigger city the difference was minimal. So yeah the same problem has shown up in CS2 unfortunately.

    Gotta agree this is the worst for me too, i have a +340k pop city and i can't basically play it because it's slowmo with every speed. :| And i have pretty powerfull cpu (9900k oc 4.5ghz) and it's still reeeeeaaally sluggish at that population, and just for this reason i have stopped playing for a while.

    I have the same problem with Ryzen 7 5800x, 175k pop city, that ruined my experience with the game, I can't play it anymore knowing that when my city gets into 160k pop it'll be unplayable

    Thank goodness Colossal Order has fixed a lot of the problems with Cities Skylines 2 and they are continuing to make the game better with each and every update. Hopefully one day it will be were it should have been at launch. Better late than never.

    When they first announced the game I immediately thought that the idea of a simulation of car crashes and true individualized path finding is INSANE. To think, we have all of this super expensive pathfinding and collision detectors that essentially does NOTHING because the game's economy doesn't even rely on the simulation. Just randomly place crashes that happen when the traffic gets too dense, or score how the roads are built and adjust the amount of crashes based off of that. Just my opinion

    I agree, it feels like they focused too much on trivial things, and not enough on the actual city management.

    @brooksy yes. The game feels totally incomplete while simultaneously having random "features" that don't do anything. They talk online like they're being awesome by giving us a new building set. Like come on, if you "vary tile sizes" like they suggest you STILL get the same assets, just with varied yards. It's so upsetting, the assets aren't even detailed and the game looks more cartoony than CS1. Which I don't understand, because the ENTIRE player base is still playing CS1 to create beautiful realistic cities... Sorry for my rant. Onto of this, the fact that basic things that are MASSIVE quality of life upgrades aren't included is infuriating. I should be able to remove sidewalks from every road, we needed a lane manager like TMPE from the start, etc. The padding for the houses is ridiculous, too. The yard can't have any terrain differences... really? The fences move vertically (often ending looking terrible) but the yard can't have any terrain deformation on it? It ends up making the cities look tacky. The roads have the new lines in them, which is kind of realistic, I guess, but why don't they degrade over time? That's a basic thing that would 100% change the look of the city, you could decide how much to spend on road management and have a REAL outcome. Instead we have... trees that grow, car crashes, buildings with billboards on them again? It's like they were intentionally tone deaf. If they created a decent mod manager for CS1 and cleared up their workshop of things that are incompatible with the current version of CS1 this game wouldn't even have to exist, though. It's frustrating. I still play, I am blown away by the roads, but thats about it. Sorry for the long rant, again.

    I noticed this also on my city with a population of 200k I think the engine is maxed out and can't run the simulation any faster

    Try 730k. It will test your patience. And it will keep your room warm. The positive thing is, I finished my city. That's the best thing out of it looks great. Nothing cs1 can come close to. BUT BUT that lag. oh man. What a price to pay to finish the city.

    Notice? They know. People with systems better than the devs are at a wall near 700k. How can they NOT KNOW?

    Mate my city only has 9k people and everything just stops for a good 3 seconds its awful and they really need to fix this.

    Yeah i have the same issue with my i7 2600k - i know its a relic but still i can play new games. At 85k of population i can barely play the game unfortunetly. My spec: DDR3 16gb ram and 1080ti gaming edition. Still i enjoy building and overall the game. Hope they will fix performance issues quickly.

    It's not the agents. I cleared entire town of ALL agents, vehicles, people and all. Still 100% slow. There is a bug. No matter how good your system is, it's the same results. same POPULATION depending on the luck of the layout or something. The simulation is BUGGED and I am sure, they know. I am forgiving for now and actually let my pc sit for DAYS since it released to finish the city and now it cmae to a HALT at 735 k exact. How some got to 1 mil is beyond me. Luck. Oh I loaded this map on my son and friends 4090 systems TOP notch and "EXACT" performance. No difference at all.

    We are running the almost same setup i have a 5800x and a 3060 12gb model and i dont seem to be having this same error with the lag what are your setting at ? My citys population is about 367k but i do lag if i move my mouse to fast it will jump sometimes

    I am using a 3060 12gb model as well, but this is a CPU overload problem. There aren't many settings in-game that I can adjust in order to lessen the CPU load (except some tools in developer mode). I am curious how you're running a town bigger than mine with less issues.

    Could you please check if all CPU cores & threads are used while running the game? I wonder if CPU with more cores is actually make sense for it.

    Ryzen Master shows all things firing off where they should be, unfortunately 12 cores gets overloaded and spike at max use with where I'm at. Temps 80+, 90w output, near full utilization.

    it's just 85% on my sons system and SLO MO. It's possibly bad coding or something. Can't be agents here. If performance was flawless on HIGH END systems we can say, " OH yeah its agents". BUT its duplicate slo mo. BUG. Go brong your save file and test it on a NASA computer, I bet same bs. Who knows.

    so you’re saying it doesn’t matter how much money you spend in getting the best of the best computer, the game is bugged so you can’t play it high graphics in late game?

    At the moment it may not be worth it. If you use my specs as a benchmark, you're easily forking out $1k+ for anything better. Another comment on this video says that their town is at 340k with a beefy Intel 9900k OC'd and it all meets the same fate eventually.
