Collectors and dealers can now submit autographed comic books for JSA autograph authentication and CGC grading and encapsulation.
The Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®) is thrilled to announce that Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), the world’s most trusted pop culture grading service, and James Spence Authentication® (JSA®), the world leader in autograph authentication, are now offering combined services for comic books. As of May 7, 2024, collectors can submit autographed comics for authentication by JSA and grading and encapsulation by CGC in one seamless solution.
Combined autograph authentication and grading services for comics are the first of many planned upgrades following the acquisition of JSA by CCG. Next up, CGC and JSA will offer combined services for trading card games (TCGs), sports cards and non-sports cards, with magazines, pulps and concert posters also in the works. Announcements will be made when more combined autograph authentication and grading services become available.
CGC pioneered witnessed signature authentication when it introduced CGC Signature Series in 2001, but it has never offered full authentication and grading for collectibles with unwitnessed autographs - until now. The combination of CGC and JSA services is the answer to the countless collectors and dealers who have asked to have their autographed collectibles authenticated and then graded and encapsulated.
Founded in 2005 by James Spence, Jr., JSA is recognized worldwide as the premier autograph authenticator for all types of collectibles. In the last two decades, JSA has certified millions of autographs and in the process has built the world’s largest autograph database of nearly 1 million images encompassing virtually every known person. JSA uses this extraordinary database alongside deep expertise and state-of-the-art equipment to maintain unparalleled accuracy in autograph authentication.
Autographed comics certified by CGC and JSA will be encapsulated with the bold, new CGC x JSA Authentic Autograph black and yellow label, which is harmonious with - yet distinct from - the iconic CGC Signature Series yellow label. Now, collectors who submit autographed comics for either CGC grading or CGC Signature Series will receive the CGC x JSA Authentic Autograph label rather than receiving the CGC Qualified green label or the CGC Signature Series Qualified green and yellow label - another benefit of CGC x JSA certification.
Autograph collectors can now submit comics for CGC x JSA certification using the CGC online submission form. Just select “JSA Autograph Authentication” as an add-on service after you select CGC grading or CGC Signature Series as your primary service.
The introductory pricing for JSA autograph authentication is simple: only $25 per autograph, no matter the fair market value of the comic book. (Grading fees are additional.)
If you’d like JSA to also grade the autograph, you can choose “JSA Autograph Grading” for an additional $25, and the autograph grade will be included on the back of the CGC x JSA label. You have the option to select autograph grade prescreen, which means an autograph grade will be assigned only if it meets (or exceeds) your specified minimum autograph grade.
All you need is a free account to submit, but paid members receive discounts on CGC x JSA certification - Associate and Premium members save 10%, and Elite members save 20%.

Get your books in sooner than later because I guarantee those prices go up
I'm in no hurry to send my signed copies in. You are correct on the wait times
So I actually sent off a Scooby-Doo Batman number one signed by the author what you should know is that the cost of the book ends up being $80. I sent it with other books but they take each category and separate it so this was one book which meant the $24 fee the $25 authentication, five dollar service fee and $20 to return the book so if you’re sending just one or two books, it might be somewhat costly.
$50 to grade and authenticate. Plus the usual shipping etc. Crazy wait times the next 12 months.
This is awesome I have just the book in mind and now another option to go with👍
Love the hat!! Bleed green mafia
Why is this so exciting? CBCS already does this and has a superior product.

Finally. Now my ASM 1 with Stan signature gets resubbed.
Have a bunch (6-8 copies of each) of Daredevil 179-181 signed by Miller that I will be submitting.
This is a very good service from CGC. Will definitely affect their competitors.
Never graded a thing in my life although, I have a Howard the duck #2 signed by Frank Brunner, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I’m definitely thinking about that one
A good friend of mine just got a job with them as a signature authenticator!

I’m a reader. I only slab as a bday gift to myself. Debating sending my Stan Lee signed Avengers 16 & 17. My Terry Moore SIP 2/3, and my New Mutants 86 with Liefeld and McFarlane
I missed this news by 1 week….. sent my Vader #3 Larocca variant signed by Edgar and Granvov (I realize that is strange but it’s all I had when I met him lol). I do have a ton of others!
I got some signed by Bob Kane I will send.
I have 3/4 of a short box of raw signed books. I have George Perez signed books I definitely want to send
that's good news for anyone wanting that signed raws graded and slabbed. congrats. #IWANTCAPTAINCARROTPLEASE
Preacher #1 signed by Garth Ennis, Uncanny X-Men #207 signed by John Romita Jr.
Batman: Damned #1 signed by Jim Lee. Maybe also my autographed copy of GL #50 with Marz and Banks.
I have a signed Spider-Man 1, McFarlane signed? It says ‘Dude’ McFarlane so don’t know if he signed any that way.

Now that's a 10/10 signature. 😂
Maybe... Maybe... Maybe X-Men #25 and Wolverine #75, each signed by the respective Kirby brothers who were the artists at the time.
All my signed books were done 20 years ago so I MAY be sending in JLA/Avengers signed by George Perez and maybe Michael Turner Superman/Batman books. I do like the pre screen idea and not having some 7.0 surprise come back but I'll likely aim lower for 9.6 or even 9.4 as I'd be fine w that especially for greats like Perez who are sadly no longer with us and I want to preserve the book. Thanks for this info. Great video
I find CGC's recent actions quite concerning. How many green labels have they issued without witnessing the signature on the comic? Now, suddenly, when their profits are affected, they're willing to verify existing signatures, even though they could be forgeries. Isn't the whole point of the 'Witnessed Signature' to prevent this?
@aa_battery7
Ай бұрын
This is why it's a different label. If you are someone who fears getting a forged sig, just stick to signature series which has to be witnessed
Sending in all my 306 signed Stan lee books in RIGHT NOW!!
🎶 “Into the flood againnnnn!” 🎶
Lmao they have to do anything to make up for the horrific grading scheme situation
Im still concentrating on my UK comic collection now CGC have a designated UK comics "expert" but I have half a dozen signed COA comics that I will also send off just in case. . Need to know if they will take the numbering into affect i.e. I have skottie young signed comic #1 of 100
Time to get my signed Cherry pop tarts graded hahahaah!
I believe the main issue with this is that it will complicate market prices. The thing CGC had over CBCS is that signatures were 100% authentic; no chance for fakes. Now, unless you still go through the signature series, the market will be flooded with hundreds of 9.8s that may or may not be legit. This will shoot signatures like Stan Lee’s from roughly $1500 on some key books to less than $700 and maybe even less than that; unless they are signature series. Those may gain more value.
@MintHunterComics
Ай бұрын
So I will say, they still have to pass authentication. The books won’t get the label if the signature fails the verification process
@sijdnsd6460
Ай бұрын
@@MintHunterComics True, but CBCS itself has authenticated fake signatures before. Roughly 4 years ago, another KZreadr faked some sigs to see if CBCS would authentic them and they did. I worry CGC would do the same thing.
I know who signed my comics and when (hint: they were all signed before artists and writers started charging fees for doing so). Therefore I don't need this mob to verify them.
I can see you sending hundreds very soon.

@@MintHunterComics thanks James, I credit you for helping me already become so knowledgeable and for knowing what to look for etc etc can’t thank you enough. 🤙🏾
I am curious how this plays out. Will "verified" signatures collect much more than blue labels? Will people that own CCBS "verified" books crack the cases and submit to CGC to get a significant bump? Just for an example, Heritage recently sold a CCBS "verified" Jack Kirby and Stan Lee 5.5 X-Men 1 for $10,500. The previous week, a blue label CGC 5.5 X-Men 1 sold for $12,600. Yes, CGC books do go for more, but witnessed Kirby+Lee SS would go for a lot more than $12,600. So, if you're the person that just acquired that "Jack Kirby verified" book, do you submit to CGC? Stan Lee signatures are common, though they can still add quite a bit to a key book.Kirby signatures, on the other hand, are rare. What's especially rare is that it's a cover signature from both, because back when Kirby was alive, the practice was to sign the splash page, not the cover. Fans didn't want to ruin the beautiful artwork with scribbles. According to one source that I came across "That's why any true Jack Kirby autograph will never be on the cover and always in ink pen." In theory, that would be a massive win to get a CGC "verified" Kirby signature. What's that book worth then? $15k? $20k? Or is it worth < $10k, because there's a good chance that CGC comes back and says "nope, we can't verify this Kirby signature" which means you've got a blue label with scribbles?
Any idea what this means for green labels from cgc? Can the slabs be resubmitted and relabeled for $25 or are they ineligible?
As soon as I get autographs at the upcoming con I am going to, I plan to send my signed books in. Timothy Zahn signing my copy of Heir to the Empire #1 is a top priority.

Very cool
Would a signature be affected by a clean and a press?
Does this mean were gonna see a raw signed book claim sale soon?
I have books with multiple signatures, but im not certain who the signatures belong to. The CBCS submission form asks you to fill in the names, so I'm not sure what to do?
@sijdnsd6460
Ай бұрын
What I would do is research who did the art/wrote the book. From there, look up the signatures for those names and compare.
So, are they grading the book AND authenticating the signature(s) for $25? Got 3 comics signed this past weekend from Joe Pruett (Cable #73), Georges Jeanty (Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 #23), and Mark Bagley (ASM #373) I’d like to get slabbed up.
The question is will they do interior sigs and give the yellow label still? 🤔
@sijdnsd6460
Ай бұрын
I believe not, in the past, they would still give a blue label even if there was a signature inside. The only reason they might not have given a blue label is if the signature was written on a page with story. If it was just on an ad page or of the like, then it would just get a blue label.
do you know if this will also apply to the video game department of cgc

This is EXCITING.

The one thing is that the yellow label guarantees authenticity. The black label is a 75/25 shot. People make mistakes all the time in authenticating things. Buyers would be weary of buying a book that may or may not be legit.

This is my concern. I believe buyers will significantly underpay for a book with a black label due to the chance it may be fake. Yellow label guarantees authenticity, black does not.
