The fact that nearly everyone who hears this song immediately says "Isn't that Ghostbusters?" is a pretty clear sign of why the Ray Parker Jr lawsuit was a slam dunk for Huey Lewis.
I agree with the people asking for "The Heart of Rock&Roll"

He got a perfect score on college math admission test. Got an Engineering degree from Ivy league Cornell University. He loved music and travel and proved that he was a smart cookie by avoiding the negative trappings of fame and as this song goes... he was not interested in drugs or acting a fool chasing skirts. He produced music with positive messages about love, friendships, hard work and clean fun! The entertainment industry could use more of this squeaky clean talent. He is also a Christian and if you notice he looks up and points towards heaven several times.
I watched a documentary on Huey Lewis and the news. Took them forever to hit the charts. Huey never at any point turned his back on his bandmates. Even when recording industries tried to make him replace members of his band, he stuck behind them. Total respect for the guy.
Firstly that was a FANTASTIC guitar solo. Yes the “Ghostbusters” song was stolen from Huey and they were sued. I have all their songs and they are timeless. Great pick 💕💕
My mother loved harmonica music, so we took her to one of Huey Lewis's concerts. She was a gray haired grandma type in a flowered dress. She sat down beside a green haired kid whose jacket was nail studded. He thought he looked tough. My mom, was so sweet to him, she offered to share her binoculars with him. I think it totally bothered him that she wasn't afraid of him. He just didn't know that under all those grandmother trappings was one of the toughest women I have ever known. Oh, she loved the concert.

Humans are social beings...We need to Love and to be Loved.....I can understand the illness but we need to nurture each other.
I'm 50 years old. I became a serious fan of theirs when I was 14. I am yet to find a better band, more fun live show, and more individually talented band, ever!!! Take a listen to their album released this past February.
Ty gettin' down with that gee-tar! Such an underrated band/singer. Thank you for playing the full version too! They were GREAT live!
Love it!! Its a great song, but the band is really awesome & this was an amazing tour live.. one of my faves from Huey/News.. i also love Heart & Soul & Workin for a Livin 🖤🤘
Huey Lewis and The News was the first concert I took my sons to. The 3 of us rocked all night! So sad Huey can't perform anymore.
Spring 1984. Senior trip to Six Flags over Texas in Dallas. Six Flags would shut the whole park down to the public at 8:00 p.m. on Senior Night. From 8:00 until 6:00 a.m. it was open for high school seniors only. About 10:00p.m. Huey Lewis and The News put on a free concert for all of us there that night.
I still laugh at his cameo on Back To The Future. "Thats just too darn loud! Next Please!"
Power of Love....Can you feel it!?
Power of Love from Back To The Future is the best. Huey has a cameo in the movie as one of the judges who tells Marty that his band is too loud. He looks nerdy, hair slicked back & wearing glasses. At the end of the movie, his album poster for “Sports” is hanging on Marty’s wall. His live shows were great. Unfortunately, in 2018 he had to retire due to an ear illness (Ménière’s disease) which caused spinning vertigo, tinnitus and hearing loss.

'The News' is an Awesome band. Hey is an ICON from the era.
Love their live performances. The energy and good vibes they put out are phenomenal!
great band. I was an elementary school kid on the early and mid 80s...they were on the radio as much as any band at that point...ton of radio play and mtv play...one of the biggest bands from 83-through the late 80s. hit after hit....artists back then were able to have the time to grow so you'd get artists like this or Phil Collins who would just have several hits a year for a decade...im not faulting artists today...but the music business was unable to manage the incoming technology of the internet and it took away the album as the driving force behind music...these guys had about 5 hits per album... combine acts like this with the titans like prince , Michael, Jackson, u2 , guns and roses, van halen , motley crue George Michael, Whitney, Janet, madonna, duran duran , the police and etc etc and list is endless...the 80s was an amazing time to grow up...music, TV, and movies were firing on all cylinders..the pop culture we got to absorb as kids back then was amazing
They were a great band! Great frontman and always high energy!
Stuck with you is my favorite Huey Lewis and the News.

Huey lewis and the news was one of the 1st bands I ever saw. I went with my college roommate who was a superfan and wanted to see them in Michigan but had never been to Detroit and a little scared so I told her I would go. We drove to the iconic Joe Louis Arena and I have to say it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. The band is great and the atmosphere was fun and inviting. I ended seeing them 2 more times that summer.
gosh all these old songs.. brings back memories... this is why there were so many stoners back then
Such a great sounding and underrated band !
I think I was 19 or 20 when this song came out. I loved it.

Ah, jr year high school 1983! Use to jam to this with my teen co-workers at Little Kitchen IN the kitchen:) Say Huey Lewis in Charlotte later that summer and was one of the most entertaining of concerts. After the opening act (which I can't recall), the lights went down and a spot light hit the American Flag near the ceiling. Off stage and unseen, Huey and fellas sang The Star Spangled Banner a cappella. I was very moved by that.

That's generally not the way it works in Rock and Roll. Huey was a great frontman, and the norm is that usually it's the frontman that really sells a band. Thats why bands decline so much when a famous frontman leaves to go solo - fans accept a replacement guitarist/bassist/keyboardist/drummer very easily, but it's hard to get them to embrace a new lead singer.
I remember when this song came out. I’d be driving down the road jamming out. Got to say though, this is the BEST version I’ve ever heard.
This song always makes me 😊!
One of my fav bands, so glad you did a live reaction b/c I have always heard they are as good live as on album.

Hip to Be Square, Naturally, Heart of Rock n' Roll, Doin' it All for My Baby, Jacob's Ladder, Power of Love, and Whole Lot of Lovin' are my favorite songs by them. Naturally is unique because Huey and the band do it as old school doo-wop, with no instruments. I love the message of Jacob's Ladder. Hip to Be Square and Heart of Rock n' Roll are just awesome songs. Whole Lot of Lovin' is great for the harmonies and Huey's harmonica playing. All worth checking out!
I loved Huey Lewis and that era of rock.

Ray Parker was under pressure to produce the song for Ghostbusters - it’s funny looking back on it ( of course the Ghostbusters theme song was also a huge hit ) because I remember Ray saying he had a tune rattling around in his head and it ( the song ) just ‘came to him ‘. Well , history certainly tells us how that happened

Bay Area Icons! Love Huey Lewis & The News!
The guitarist is great in this band very underrated.
I never saw this live version before but it was killer. The guitar intro was great as was the rest of the band as you pointed out. My favorite Huey Lewis and the News song is Crack Me Up, I don't know who the song is about but it must be about a real person.
Very underrated band
Loved Bad is Bad by these guys, and everything else they did.
Am glad you played a live version. Your reaction to the extended guitar intro and ghostbusters was priceless. Was hard to hear all the lyrics, but I'm sure this was an awesome concert if you were there. The lyrics are quite romantic when you really listen.
Love love Huey Lewis and the news. It takes me back to 1984, being in Boise,Idaho. Being on the beach, enjoying the sunshine. I was 11 years old. That was a great summer. Um, have you heard of the stray cats? They're fantastic! Lots of horns in their music. You should give them a listen.

Cool live version of the song! I hope you'll react to more tracks from Huey Lewis and the News, it is such a tight band with a great singer!
Huey Lewis sang a great duet with Gwyneth Paltrow in the movie "Duets" singing Smokey Robinson's "cruisin" . Andre Braugher sings "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd a cappella before being killed. Man what a scene. both scenes..Father singing with his daughter making her dream come true and the friend dying giving his buddy advice.
Huey came out with "I want a new drug" before Ray Parker Jr did Ghostbusters. There was a lawsuit. Huey won if memory serves. You can goggle it I am sure. I love both songs anyways. haha
Nice observation about this song and its connection to Ghostbusters "Who you going to call?" They were asked to do a song for the movie but said no because all they wanted was a slower rehash of this song, so they found Ray Parker Jr. Paid him to do a slowed down version of I want a new drug for the movie. Huey Lewis heard the song and knew they got ripped off, sued and won all the money made from "Who you gonna call?"
Please do HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL BY THEM...Preferably the actual video if you can... Huey Lewis and the News reminds me of when my now hubby and I moved to Sacramento from NY together in 1986... and we would just watch music videos together for date night because we only had temp jobs which equals not much money🤪 reminds me of not much money tiny apartment no kids but GREAT MEMORIES AGAIN PLEASE DO HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL VID...only if you don’t get in trouble...😝 I understand why ..... They were the bomb in the 80's!!!
I think it was Huey who sang Prince's part on the Quincy Jones' "We are the World" recording.
I was lurking in the chat room when this one premiered; I never said a word in the chat room
Hurt Lewis and the News "Sports" was my first tape I got. Kinda nostalgic.
Just listen to Johnny shred. Good lord those opening licks alone are incredible. That man, who literally started playing in garages, could make a guitar do tricks like a circus animal.
I was a big fan of theirs back in the day. I have never seen this performance and it was awesome! Going to be sharing it! Thanks!

The wife was/is a big fan of Huey Lewis and the News. Everytime I hear this band, I remember our honeymoon years in the eighties. Rock on!
Never saw this video version of the song before - solid choice - they are excellent in concert. Huey on harp is also the cherry on top - did you know that Huey in his youth travelled the UK as a busker (street musician) ?
Huey Lewis and The News have such a great catalog of songs!! “Do You Believe in Love” will always be my favorite, though. 💁🏻♀️
my favorite? heart of rock and roll!
Don't think i have enough tambourines😂 just jam & mosh it will fill in😉👍
Also remember that the producers for Ghostbusters tried to get him to do the song and he said no so they stole it and changed the words to fit their movie. That’s why he won the lawsuit from what I understand.
Great song
Great band. Saw them several times and met them in 1986 while in college. Johnny Colla is a great saxophone player and musician. They always put on an awesome show. The version from Huey Lewis and Tower Of Power is even better. Those horns filled out the sound and interact with the News making for a fun performance. Songs you may want to consider are Hip To Be Square, Workin' For A Livin', and I know you like harmonies, so check out their song "Naturally" which is a capella.
Huey Lewis and the News is definitely my guilty pleasure band. A lot of catchy songs. One very underrated song from them is 'Bad Is Bad', a bluesy doo wop that is pretty good.
Intro here is cool - different than on the video - this is a great, tight band
