    Thanks for the very thorough review. I've had it for about a month and it's working beautifully with my discover hue light!

    With the Hue app and external motion sensor is it possible to have the lights fully on for a portion of the night and then motion activated for the rest of the night. Eg I want rear lights on constantly from 6pm to 9pm but after that time I want them only to be motion activated until morning.

    In theory yes, but not something I have tried. You would setup a routine to activate the lights from 6 - 9 to be on, and then after this the motion sensor rule should be followed. However, I have no idea if one would cancel the other out.

    That's a good question, I was going to ask if you can disable the sensor during the day to save battery?

  • @SpectrumGeeks

    @SpectrumGeeks

    @@jayzzz1234 You can tell the sensor to do NOTHING between a certain time window, but its not disabled per se, so will probably not change much in regards to battery life.

    @@jayzzz1234Don’t worry about the battery, it runs on 2 AAA batteries and I’ve had one fitted 4 years ago and it’s still running

    I have the same outdoor light just installed it, How do you use this sensor to activate the lights but then turn the lights off after say 1minute, my light is by the front door being used as a porch light to unlock the door when home from work but then I want it to switch off till motion is detected again later on Not have it stay on all nights. Is that possible?

    I thought it was zigbee and works with hubitat without the need for Hue controller.

    Not that I have found. I was only able to see it with my Zigbee SmartThings Hub after it was discovered by the Hue hub.

    Is it possible to have the lights on at 25% all night, but if motion is detected turn the lights on to 100% for 10 minutes? Thanks

  • @SpectrumGeeks

    In theory I would say yes. You could use the automation feature in the Hue app to have the lights come on at 25% from a set time, and then the motion sensor trigger to a different setting. I am not sure if they two would cancel each other out though, as not something I have ever done configuration wise myself.

    Can I ask did this scenario work for you. An automation set and once motion detected the lights go to a different setting ?

  • @DrTorbjorn

    @DrTorbjorn

    @@Frazybaby Yes it does work. I have an automation that turns on my floodlights at 50% with a warm light between sunset and sunrise. Then in the accessory settings for the motion sensor under behavior I have it set to change to a scene with white light at 100% when motion is detected between 8pm and 8 am (you cannot choose sunrise/sunset in these settings for some reason). I then chose the option to "return to previous state" after 5 minutes. Even though its night there will be some light already since the flood lights are turned on at 50%, so you also have to change the daylight sensitivity to medium. So now my lights are at 50%, when motion is detected it goes to 100%, and then after 5 minutes back to 50%. Hope that helped.

    Dude never touch Philips hue stuff. It’s totally over priced and in many cases inferior.

    I agree its not the cheapest which is why I always wait for deals, but never had any issues with reliability or performance personally.
