Regarding the new format, I like that it to some extent compensates for your reduced rate of production of Dominions content since we get more of the game in a single episode. I secretly hope you will one day return to the style of what is still my favorite series of yours, OnceMoreIntoTheBreach, which is jam packed with careful deliberation. Your style has evolved such that you don't do much deliberating anymore, just sort of making the calls and going with it. Also I am super glad this series isn't another disciples game dominated by an elf team. Hooray!

I think the new format can be very valuable, and enjoy Perun's videos where he tends to do that kind of analysis, but it's going to be enjoyable in a different way than the old. The new might be more educational in some ways, but part of what's fun with the turn-by-turn let's play where you record the turn as you play it style of gaming is that it creates kind of a narrative in relation to you as a player. It becomes more personal, because we get to see your excitement and angst in response to what's happening. Of course that's not something we can or should demand of you, and you should absolutely do what you think is most enjoyable to make, just sharing what kinda draws me into some of your games and not as much into others.

It's a good change. I think that Dominions-casting being fun for you is important, because if you're bored out of your skull while recording it comes through to the viewer.

Really love Mekone as well, so I'm happy to see another game with it! Good luck! I'm a fan of the format, but I'd still like to see the standout battles or those that might illustrate the general course of a war.

As an aside of potential interest, the full version of Godking: Master of Rituals just came out on Steam---game is quite likely the first love letter sort of project directly in the spirit of at least Conquest of Elysium, yet with some character and different emphasis unto itself.

I must say that i really enjoy this format. Dom5 is a setailed game, for sure, but you get that stuff from other videos and national specials. This is more watchable, more dynamic and still very informative, due to focus on oberarching strategy. Cheers!

Well good luck with the new format but I'll be honest from how you described it I don't think I'll be a fan. The problem with these big turn retrospectives is that it's easy to forget things. Like the turn save files. Also the big overarching strategic plan is the least interesting part of Dominions game play. The diplomacy and execution of your strategy are much more fun to watch and those occur on a turn by turn basis. I also find the perfect 20/20 hindsight explanations of what you did and why you did it to be far less valuable and entertaining than watching the stream of consciousness decision making process that we get when you record actually playing the turn. Anyway that's my 2 cents. I'll still watch it. Who knows, I might be wrong.

I think the format works very well in the early game (like in this video), when there is not much going on each turn and your direction can shift so often. Once you get to the mid game and beyond the details can start getting a lot more important, but if you perhaps paused to look at more important moments such as big battles between these strategic overviews it might still work. I know for this game at least Perun will be doing that for you to some extent but if you continue using this in another series it would be nice to see.

Mekone needing to marshal itself for a massive cataclysmic conflict against the legions of other gods in order to seize the thrones of ascension from the unworthy younger races sounds super thematic for the nation though.

  • @Garsemor

Format is good have 0 issues with it so keep it up. A though I have is that timing a war with Ulm just right is going to be key to winning this game because although you may not want a war with Ulm now, nobody ever wants a war with Ulm and letting Ulm live is dangerous. Just think back to YetAgainUntoTheBreach as Machaka where Ulm won exactly because nobody wanted to be at war with them until it was too late.

Gigante hoplites should beat Ulmish troops handily. Sure Axe warriors have six attacks per square, and sure they hit for 24 damage (assuming SoG). But in the other hand, hoplites with LoS have 24 armor so they should only suffer chip damage, and they have high hp. And the axe warriors themselves have bad prot and should die in one hit. So even outnumbered, as long as the hoplite line is long enough to avoid being flanked, they should be fine.

So in theory, yes, but the theory runs into one major problem; it's *really hard* to not get outflanked. Gigantes go two to a square; you can't really prevent them from doing that. So you get 80 gold of Gigantes in a single square, while 80 gold of Axe Warriors is nearly three squares. If you're massing Gigante troops, Ulm can afford to go double line vs. your single line and *still* overlap you on both sides. You can try to prevent that by using Helotes, but Helotes get absolutely murked by Ulmish troops - and Ulm is one of the few nations that both takes E buffs as well as Mekone does (if not better) and also has just as much access to E2 and E3 mages. Basically, you need pretty significant magic to fight that war. Going troop vs. troop against Ulm isn't a great idea IMO.

If you recruit them eg 1:1 with the size 2 dudes you get the repel and fill up lots of squares. Or is it 2:1? whatever

  • @nicolinrucker5181

@@7thpath355 And then you realize that Axe Warriors are recruitable in any forest and a dual wielder with no throwing axe but otherwise the same is available from any mountain... and then you realize that actually, EA Ulm is freaking scary if you don't have major magic for basically everyone. There are VERY VERY few powers who can reliably avoid getting outflanked vs EA Ulm. Most people's best answer to EA Ulm is archery or serious magic. The few exceptions are basically hellblessed sacreds and that gets dicey. EDIT: also, because of how prot and LoS ACTUALLY WORK, Gigante Hoplites would have 22 BODY prot so they would be taking an average of 2 damage reliably.

I really dont know about the new format, I've got the feeling people are going away from the standard formula for dominions all around yt. In general that's awesome! Getting new ways of looking at dominions multiplayer. However I would indeed like for at least some content to remain similar. I already looked for alternative channels:D dont want to do that again *crybaby*. You do you gc, do what gives you the motivation to do more dominion vids. I'm quite happy you're back for the blessed content, just dont think you *have to* shake up the format.

i don't think the new style will work out well, i like the turn recaps because it show why something happened rather then what you wanted to happen, and most plans will be "get X guy on X turn so i can get X magic up to level X as soon as possible" that isn't as interesting then showing how a plan went wrong or how it went right, if they suck i will just stay subbed for the faction episodes and ditch the let's plays if they are going to be boring.

I would prefer the turn by turn, but with out the redundant explanations of minutia, like we don't need to hear you explain for 3 minutes how a battle is going to go before we watch it, or sometimes don't even get to watch it. Just wham bam through the events and on to the strategy and diplo.

if you like sandboxy games where the point is telling a story to yourself, then yes, IMO, I quite enjoy fiddling around with single player. If you are only interested in a challenge then, well, kind of. There are nations that are so terribad they can actually genuinely have issues dealing with the AI and if you kick the AI up the difficulties they get absolutely ABSURD amounts of rando carp that can cause problems to you before you have battlefield wipes just based on their sheer numbers if you don't have REALLY good troops.

Going to echo some of the comments here that the new style is missing alot of the enjoyable details. The tactics and scripting and the reasoning behind them. Perhaps as the game move into the mid game the combat will take more focus naturally. Hopefully you won't go full strategic only.

like the format mostly. Would be nice to see some fights here and there. Default map gen are terrible as usual. Really not a fan. Bats getting rekt by map, throne placement making no sense and ugly to boot.
