Dude!.. I owe you coffee. Spec sheet mentions nothing. Reviewers guide mentions nothing. Even GSM Arena says 720p. Settings say nothing. Who on earth would've thought that you had to disable beauty mode for this. It's ridiculous! Damn. You're the man! Thanks for the tip. Clearly needed more time with the phone ^JR

😂 no way! Literally just got back from Rome last weekend and I had the P20 Pro with me, I literally couldn't have wished for a better camera phone to have with me, I got some incredible shots. Love it!

That zoom while shooting video is insane, I was expecting some distortion when you zoom in, but im shocked how much detail stays in tact.. I really like the gradient paint job, that style better make it's way to all phones, cause that adds a very nice touch

A very productive and professional approach, as always. Just ordered one and selling the iPhone X, which I think is mediocre at producing quality images and poor in low light. Been an iPhone fan for ten years, but I’d like to try another platform in photography, which is the main function of my phone.

Love the review and the location! I purchased the Honor 8 thanks to your review, one year ago this week, now this phone arrives! Fantastic video, very helpful. I request you to do a comprehensive review of the Honor View 10 and the upcoming 10 models. These flagships are great play-things with new and great fun features each year but in reality the vast majority of us use mid-range devices like the View 10 or One+ or now Nokia 7+, few can actually pay the premium being asked for flagship devices now. Will really appreciate those featuring in upcoming videos.

P20 Pro can record upto 1080p with the front camera. You just need to disable beauty video in the settings

Definitely the best low light smartphone camera , even Pixel can't keep up ! Wow

The natural blur from the sensor for portraits is way better than the portrait mode actually. I can see companies ditching the portrait mode feature (at least the fake bokeh effect) for a bigger aperture like the one on this phone!

Would love to see a follow up on this in, say, three months or so. I noticed that almost everything you didn't exactly gave the thumbs up for on this phone, is something that could be fixed/adjusted in the software. That would mean that the hardware is there, and we're still waiting for the software to properly support it. I'm not looking for a new phone, but this one caught my attention.

Couple of tips re: the quipples. If you turn AI on, when it pops up on screen you can dismiss it by tapping the 'x' without switching settings. If you want more consistency in sharpening and saturation or prefer a flatter/neutral look similar to Samsung and Pixel turn the colour profile/setting to Standard.

Very gently explained

Just knowing the sensor size and how close you are to the camera and the actual shallow DoF I'm seeing here @ @1:50, call me impressed by the fact they were able to fit such a large sensor into a slim body. My old Samsung EX1 had the same sized sensor and A FIRST! for a compact camera with a 1/1.7 CCD sensor @ f/1.8! 1.8!!! on a compact camera? AMAZING!, it was phenomenal! in 2010!

Hey dude, go to the night mode and there you can change the shutter speed to up to 32 seconds which is cool and all and taking the shot seems to take whatever time set but the shutter on the resulting image still tends to show as 4 seconds?? Any idea what's going on?

I just leave my Mate in Pro mode standard and switch it off when I want the new processing of Huawei, (and it is already heavily present in the Mate 10 Pro).

Great presentation. I want a perfect phone is it? Great camera but not 4k I here. The fact is does it blow the competition away ? I wait for your next review. Thank you.

What camera are you using for vlogging? It is sharp detailed but it has jello effect...

You can record FHD video with the selfie camera by switching off beauty mode! Also the selfie camera might produce soft looking images due to the fact that it is fixed focus and its focusing distance is relatively short which means that the face details can get out of focus and blurry. NOT because of beauty mode since it can be turned off completely. Great video, though. I'm looking forward to your full review on this device!

Hi JR just wondering what software build your on I see a lot of vids with night mode in the regular camera modes on mine I have to go into the more menu to turn it on and it's so annoying.

Former p9 user, currently using the p10. Question, how well does it handle waze? Had problems using waze with both huawei phones, kind of a deal breaker.

I've got the twilight version and it's working GREAT! There had been 2 software updates though 960 fps is still the same, but who really keeps taking 960 fps?

You can shoot in 1080p from the front camera. First you need to disable the beauty mode and then go into the settings to change the resolution...😉

Did you work with the photos on PS? Maybe there would be more brilliant photos with this help.

It's not capped at 720P you have to turn off beauty mode it's on the top left of the camera to get full 1080

for selfie camera tern off the beauty mode and u will find 1080p video option appear in the settings

I have an iPhone X and have been using it to take pictures of jewellery. Not happy about the photos looking washed out and when they are zoomed look granular. So, when I heard about the Huawei P20 Pro I thought I would give it a go. It’s being delivered today so perhaps I will do my own KZread review lol

I think this phone is amazing, so far I'm loving mine. It is much better value for money than anything else out there. It's £30 off on contract per month relative to S9Plus which means £720 savings over contract length, plus I got mine with promotional Bose headphones. Camera quality is amazing and phone very snappy despite last gen SoC.

Like, Home Pics, Office Pics, Fun Pics, Whatsapp Pics, Home Vids, Office Vids, Whatsapp Vids, etc.. Same way as Samsung allows to make sub folders in the Gallery, plus transfer of Photos and Videos from one folder to another. Is that allowed on Huawei Mate 20 X. Please advise, as I am intending to buy this Phone.

I'm only 1:40 in and can I just add, I am a photographer and I have the huawei p20 pro. There's a huge misconception about the 40mp camera. It's almost unusable with the over sized sensor with the tiny lens. The edges of the photo become blurred, the photo takes way too long to be taken which results in minor blur in image. I compared this with my 41mp Sony a7rii and they weren't even nearly on par. Everyone including my self will only really be able to use the 10mp 4 pixels combined to one. Thanks

I am using it currently and i like the pictures more without the AI. You can deactivate it in the settings. Normal pictures come out more natural than my S9. I like that. The selfie camera is garbage though 😅 All in all the p20 pro is now also on top. I hope they keep improving themselves.

I think Juan's presence in PocketNow KZread is gone. He focuses on publishing written articles for pocketnow website. Also he is doing his own KZread or supplementing other KZread channels.

No. You are not limited with selfie camera on 720p. That is wrong. If you turn off "Beauti Mode" (little smile on display), than you back in the settings and you can switch sefie camera on FullHD 1080p.
