THANK GOD you review this phone! I wanted you to review the p20 pro display calibration because yesterday I was on notebookcheck dot com and read the display review and they said it's on par as the iPhone x display calibration or a little better. Great timing on this upload Erica!

agree on that, didn't found anything so far about the black clipping so far, something that would bother me if I bought a samsung.

Just love the way how you review the display because bad display really is a deal breaker for me too. I subscribed your channel because these display reviews.

Having the finger print sensor on the front is a better way in my opinion. I don't have to bring up the phone to unlock when it is resting on the table in order to read incoming notifications.

Mun Chee Hong negative front scanners need to be under glass so they don't take up space and look ugly like on this phone

I find it ok having the finger print sensor on the front with P20. I guess it is up to individual preferences. However, for myself I will prefer conveniences over cosmetic looks. Also, we still have no idea how good on-glass finger print sensor are at the moment. If users can accept the weird looking notches on top of the screens nowadays, I don't see why they cannot put up with the finger print sensor on the front. Just my 2 cents.

Mun Chee Hong I understand what you’re saying, but most people are using more real estate as the number 1 reason for having the notch. If that’s the case, then why have the notch in this phone because your losing real estate with the chin? Just a thought.

As much as I wish to agree with you, but having the notch is actually losing the actual real screen estate imho. For example, P20 Pro has a screen size of 6.1" diagonally - that's 155 x 73.9 x 7.8 mm (6.10 x 2.91 x 0.31 in) according to GSMArena. However, within the 6.1", only the left and right side of the notch are used for displaying status symbols. If my understanding is correct, you will "lose" the left and right areas when viewing movies, gaming, etc in full screen, unless you prefer to have the movie or game clipped by the notch area. So, in the end do we actually still have a full 6.1" of usable area? That's something to consider. However, we are not losing any real estate with physical finger print senor at the chin area because that area is never considered as part of the displaying screen estate in the first place.

You are honestly the only tech reviewer that pronounces Huawei the correct way haha props for that detail!

It is definitely an amazing phone for any android user out there, Huawei products have made leaps and bounds in terms of their quality in the last few years.

I disagree. I love the idea of having the fingerprint reader at the front. I have the S8 + and I really want to unlock my phone without lifting it off my work desk, and nope I dont use the face unlock mechanisms due to eye damage scares listed on the web. Yeah I fancy this P20 plus phone.

Is the always on display on settings ? If yes, does it show the missed calls, messages and app notifications? Thanks for your time!

Catherine Adams Note 9’s battery runs down WAY quicker through the battery as it isn’t optimized as well as the P20 Pro, if you don’t believe me look at battery comparisons..........

@@liquidmist81 I got the P20 Pro and I'm soooo happy with it. Not very common but the battery... Holy moly. A battery has never lasted me 1 whole day. Ever. Now. I usually have 30 percent or something still, after the whole night and I use Bluetooth 24/7 (smart watch and headphones when studying or at work)

Does the sharpening happen even with Master AI turned off? How long do 40mpx RAW images take to save? How do you find the forced beauty mode which apparently can not be turned off even when sliding the scale down to zero?

Ooohhh with the Sprint Tmobile merger possibly in the works, I would love to be able to get this device a couple months down the line. I love the camera but I won't switch carriers for it (I'm on Sprint right now). Glad to hear you're getting good speeds on their LTE bands.

Why didn't you get the Purple gradient version? Hows the battery life?

I find setting the colour profile to standard gives the photos a flatter/neutral look that many north americans prefer. But it is nice to be able to choose between that and vibrancy that's added automatically without having to spend the time in post-processing.

Since i have it i can tell that there is an update missing on your device. With the update the night mode would be one of the first modes and not under "more". Go to system update and search after the complete package. I also can tell that the camera does that oversharpening thingy sometimes. Thats why i shoot only in 40MP without AI. Pictures come out very natural and not sharpened. Please test this :)

CLT-L09 has no updates yet, unfortunately. I know because I have one. However, version 110 is coming soon apparently. We are currenlty on 103.

Apparently there is some pretty aggressive "beautifying" happening even if you disable it in settings. How do you find the portraits look? Does shooting in manual work around this?

I've never used a Huawei phone but when I was in Japan last year my friend who lives there had one. I'm not sure what model it was but it was huge compared to the s7 Edge I was using at the time. It was gold colored if that means anything. It looked like a pretty nice phone if you don't mind one the size of a small tablet.

I don't understand why unboxings are so popular, especially with phones. The content in the box is near identical even across brands, so there isn't even a surprise waiting. It is the fingerprint sensor on the front that is attracting me to the P20 Pro. My phone sits on my desk and I like to be able to unlock it without picking it up or hunching over it for face unlock.

I am lazy when I am at my desk at home. I am on my feet and constantly moving while I am at work., I have no interest in doing more than I need to at when I am home. If I can get as great phone without having to mess about, the why not?

The example about the shadow clipping with a stat of sorts (6: 34) shows the Huawei does do more detail up to further into the dark, but the way the Samsung's shows what IS visible is a thousand times superior! Also, Erica might not like a fp scanner below the screen on the front, but most people dislike it when it's at the back.

I love that background, I have that as a poster in my room

I just snagged one of these from my carrier (ah the joys of living north of the 49th parallel). Going to unbox soon and charge it up, looks like a decent phone for the money.

Great review! I prefer the fingerprint sensor on the front as it means I don't have to pick it up to use it when it's on a desk and the areas beside the fingerprint reader allow you to pick the phone up without touching the screen

Yay" I love "Stranger Things" also, great series. The film "The Summer of 84" is really cool also if you get the chance to watch it. Regards the phone and Huawei, in my opinion they are really impressive when it comes to producing budget and mid rangers which are just amazing value for the $ and they can not really be competed with in that regard. This being said I would not even consider something like this P20 Pro when you can purchase a One+ 6T for much less money, quite a significant amount of money actually. For me a camera can only bring me so much and it is the other features which interest me more. Great review Erica, thanks again!!

try some really long exposure shots with a tripod, I want to see results for that, from what I've seen so far no other phone can touch it on camera if it is utilized properly, I'd say Pixel 2 is the closest experience in picture quality
