Nice solution to the thermal issues of the Matebook! Can't wait to do the same to mine when I'm getting it :)
I just did this mod and love it. Used so little of the liquid metal and yet it was enough.
Thanks for that product key discount. Much appreciated 👍
Thanks for the upload dude! You mentioned you did not want to add thermal pads on the both sets of ram. I think if you added thinnest available ones it would have been fine in terms of pressure on both cpu and gpu. Good luck with the channel!
I put Liquid Metal Ultra years ago on my laptop (Yoga 2 Pro, i5-4200u with the 3200x1800 screen) and quickly noticed the heat didn't soak into the keyboard area and overall the laptop stayed much cooler while the exhaust got uncomfortably hot lol. I also noticed it was faster because it was free to turbo all the time and killed about an hour of battery life, although you can easily argue that an hour of productivity was saved. Love that laptop and still don't see any reason to get a new one 6 YEARS later, coming from someone that never had a laptop for more than 2 years.

Damn straight son! I'm still over here with me (not so trusty at the moment) good ol Acer Travelmate P645-MG Ive been troubleshooting it for the past weeks since it fails updating windows which is awesome because your CPU is tied up at 80-100% usage until the message pops up that you now may restart your system. But still, I think I got it fixed now, waiting for the magic to happen atm and I think if it takes this one like a champ, this bad boy is still plenty for the stuff I do for like 2 maybe even 3 years. Gotta replace the battery tho, itd at 33.8% wear and boy, you feel those 20Wh missing. Edit to add: it got the I7-4510U in it @2.79GHz. 2C/4T performance to the max lol

Great illustration of what the Liquid Metal does.
Just repasted my 2018 Blade 15 , and my god what a horrible job the Razer ppl did on the manufacturing line, there was barely any paste in my CPU ! Don't think id ever have the courage to liquid metal tho ! Great video !
Awesome video. I’m not a computer guy but I would feel comfortable doing this upgrade after watching this.
I just LM'd my laptop a few weeks ago. Dropped the temps quite a bit. I did the same to my desktop several months ago, but after about a month, I checked it and it looked like it was kind of dried and crusty. I switched it back to Kryonaut.
I have the Matbook D with the R5 and I applied liquid metal and the results are great. The matebook D fan is loud
You can take the excess from the chips and spread it on the coldplates. I do it so it looks like paint on both surfaces.
Hey Greg, Thank you for letting us know how to metal cool these machines... :-) Planet coaster ---> To create a fighter jet kind of roller coaster rides???
Thank you so much, Greg, it helped me a lot! I just replaced my screen with the help of your video. It's working fine and the screen seems qualitative! The only downside -which is quite annoying- is that when I close my screen, it looks like the laptop doesn't recognize it and doesn't go to sleep. The only way is to manually turn it off or put it to sleep. I do believe I reinstalled everything correctly but I may have missed something. Do you have an idea of where it might come from? Thanks for your help!

I'm using Lithium grease (lithol 24 in my case) around the dies , creates a great barrier so nothing will spill out and is removable in case if you need to. Also it probably aids in thermal transferring since it still touches both surfaces. I think for laptops its a better option than nail polish
Very interesting cooling solution. It looks like it doesn't have a fin stack on the fan.

I think the best way test liquid metal is to use a fixed fan profile before liquid metal application and then after re pasting with liquid metal that same exact fan profile should be used to see the difference in temperatures. Most of the times the fans dont even ramp up when liquid metal is applied, that's why we dont exactly get to know the exact temperatures drop that we achieved..
I heat up the liquid metal with a hairdryer till is is super hot before trying to apply it. It seems to help getting it to come out easier and "wet" easier when applying.
Awesome video, Dude. What size laptop is it? I just can't seem to find a 15 " version of the Pro X
Wish I could do this to my Matebook!! I’m so scared to open up my laptop, especially because I want to clean my lil fan. Love the video though, definitely subbing!!
I applied Arctic 5 on my GL504GM HERO II from ASUS, voided my warranty but the temps are worth it lol
Nice wide-angle lens. Hey, your computer desk(s) look like mine, except black and with slightly fewer RGB LEDs.
Lm dropped my 8700k so much i think my chip had a sub par application from the factory i went from stock cinebench runs in the mid 70s to 5ghz runs maxing out at 60C.
Can back the worthiness of the liquid metal application on the Matebook X Pro. It's helps the temps A LOT.

What are the long term ramifications of using liquid metal in a laptop? I've been considering it for my Lenovo Legion, which has an i7 8750h and a 1050ti just to keep everything happy and cool.
what about if you make some tiny holes in the plastic in the fan area it can improve the temperature it will get better airflow for sure maybe increase some noise , but i don't get why they cover it now days at least in the cheap medium range laptops

I'm bothered by the fact the heatsink doesn't go in front of the fan for venting the heat. Is it using the case as an extended heatsink?
Seems like a strange cooling solution. Sure there are heatpipes and a fan, but the two aren't connected and there seems like no path for the heat in the metal plate to reach the fan/heatsink

Hey, I'd be interested to see a follow up on this video. When I was looking into putting LM on my laptop (MSI GS63VR), the general consensus I got when asking around on forums and reddit and stuff was a pretty resounding IT'S NOT WORTH IT YOU'LL CORRODE AND SHORT YOUR LAPTOP etc. Quite a few people suggested that even if I did a good job of protecting nearby components (with nail polish and tape or whatever), liquid metal is so volatile that it would inevitably scatter throughout the laptop and short something that shouldn't short--it would brick the laptop. I thought that was farfetched, but I also needed my laptop to be reliable, so I just used Kryonaut and have been happy with the results. It would be cool to see you open this up at some point down the line and see what the application looks like. And, to put the above-mentioned haters to bed, it would be funny to see you do a shake/shock test to see if that causes any of the compound to go running loose. Cheers!

Cool vid! Pretty interesting to see other branded laptops being taken apart. I've worked on a lot of Dell and Apple laptops. All a very similar in nature. Gaming laptops always have a lot of tech inside. Surprising, imho Macbooks are easier to work on from a hardware point of view (Superior quality parts + less moving parts = less potential problems!). Always replacing system boards, heatsinks, fans, LCD panels and ram with Dell hardware. Also it is a good idea to disconnect the battery prior to commencing any work inside the laptop! :)
Hi Gregg, I jsut purchased matebook X Pro 2020 and I am interested in to get ThrottleStop setup for undervolting. Thx for feedback. Bob
Greg I hope you see this comment. Since the thermal pad on the GPU was about half a millimeter thick, having it removed, did it affect thermals? I'm thinking in terms of contact pressure
Perspective is fine. Echo was a bit rough
So did you mean that you need MSI Afterburner running to get the Mx150 to boost? My son have a Mx150 laptop and always has issues running light games.
can you give me the link of the wallpaper which is on your desktop
Hey Greg, bit off topic but out of curiosity what video editing software do you use?
Any impact on battery life?
How sensitive are the clips that hold on the back panel? I have concerns that, in the future when the battery needs to be replaced, that it will be a nightmare to take off the back without breaking a clip. Laptops are way too delicate these days. Even the Thinkpads have weak plastic clips that pretty much break anytime you take it apart. Thanks, in advance, for the advice!
Could to do a teardown of the Matebook D ?
Hi Nice video, can you make a video for screen replasment? The shop in Norway try to trick the costumers by saying that it is not posible to change the metal casing only. I think they are trying to be like Apple genious bar.
After putting the back plate on again, I noticed the sides are not even. Anybody has the same issue?

I would be concerned with longevity. Bare copper tends to soak up the gallium of the liquid metal, therefore 'drying out'. Though I'm not sure how fast gallium diffuses into copper.

@@cl4ster17 I've seen a lot of videos and read a lot of experiences of many users before using it. For what i can tell, the corrosion is absolutely minimal in the long therm (it's absolutely worth it and doesn't hurt performances). One Question ... is Conformal Coating enough? or do I need to put Thermal Tape aswell?

Undervolted my Elitebook 840 G1 and got like 30mins more from battery and maybe 5c-10c lower temps :) Gonna apply some MX-4 at some point and see if that helps even further, cores have around 4c difference when under load so something is off there.

In my opinion this is the Best laptop in terms of specs for value and its gorgeous profile, so I purchased it. The Huawei ban had me worried since microsoft is an american company which means the matebook can no longer use windows in their future lineups. I've looked online to see if already released products would be impacted but I've seen very few results. @chiwanau

Problems only apply to their future products so no need to worry. Also due to close association to the gov, they aren't gonna drop support to make up for declined revenue. That is unless u import the china version. Once in a while they screw domestic customers.
So this was the performance left on the table because of overheating. Now you only need to remove power limits and run this thing at 25W instead of 15. If you still have it of course.
