I cry every single time I watch this performance and I'm not even a little ashamed by that! I can not think of another artist that can do that to me

He is a true performer. I feel every word. I watched it for the first time today and you are like my 4th or 5th reaction and I keep crying every time cause even though there has not been physical abuse to my mom there has been tremendous verbal and emotional abuse, to not just my mom but my lil brother and myself. So when I listen to this song all those emotions bottled up inside come out.

You are correct, this is not his story, nor is it the original singer's (Jay Chou). He said after this show that he did the song this way to especially call attention to the issue of domestic violence.

This is such a heavy hearted performance, I repeat many his songs except this one. He is equipped with so many talents, and can be a great movie star if he want to try that field.

I love your channel. Your completely honest and real. That's what viewers want most of all. When your ready for another sad Hua song. I recommend his favorite song I Am What I Am from one of his yearly concerts. He sings it every year in his concerts as the the final song. The singer who created the song tragically committed suicide. Hua crys everytime he performs it.

I literally cried watching this vids. I just have soft spot when it comes to family-related songs or movies. It broke my heart cause it is the reality that we live in today. Somehow or somewhat we have to accept it unwillingly. To address this issue needs courage deep within one's soul. Thanks Sandy for introducing Hua Chenyu to me!! He is a true talent/performer.

Hua joined the music industry when he won an amateur singing competition titled in 2013 but only really rose to fame when he put his astounding talent on display in a popular singing contest which is . further enhanced his status as a music prodigy. Heartbreaking! It is the saddest song I heard because working in Education area as you used to do, domestic violence against mothers or children is much more common than people imagine. Exchanging experience with professionals from other countries I know domestic abuse is everywhere. From the poorest cabins and slums to the biggest mansions and castles. From USA to Asia, Russia, African continent to Brazil. From all South and Central America to Australia and New Zealand.

My first reaction before I knew it wasn't about him....I had a great dad too....

well thank you for listening too that song I was one of those students that would have come too you with this problem My mom was a Single Mom punctuated by moments of sheer terror when the token father would make an appearance and then the shit would hit the fan .. I for one am glad that he did this song and that it transcended the language barrier too bring awareness too the spousal abuse plague that is on this earth now .. thank you for weathering the storm .. This performance is taken from another singing competition TV show called The Next。The wording (The Next) is written on the show title logotype but I do not know why many people choose to call it Sound of War. The show is broadcasted between October to January & it’s into Season 3 this year. Hua Hua is one of the mentors. Format of the show:- The first 10 (+/-) episodes (one on one battle) are selection rounds whereby contestants decide which mentor they wanna battle against & there after the mentors pick 1 of them as their opponents. The challenge of the mentors is to rearrange & perform the song assigned by their opponents within 24 hrs. It’s like a lottery for the mentors coz many of these contestants tend to pick crappy songs ranging from nursery rhymes, classics, oldies, music from video games etc. (One very good example is My Skateboard Shoes). The contestants on the other hand have free choice of songs & no time constrain. The 400 audiences will cast their votes after each performances. The contestant returns next week for another battle if his/her vote is higher than the mentor. He/she will proceed to the Final if he/she wins the second battle. Loser proceed to the Semi-Final. In the Semi-Final & Final, the mentors will collaborate with the contestants playing a supporting role by rearranging the assigned song. As the focus is on the contestants, the mentors should not outshine or steal the limelight during the performances. IMO, it is hard (especially fo non-chinese) to appreciate the excellent work these mentors have done unless you check out how the original songs sound like. One every good example is My skateboard shoes. The original is a really nerdy song. I’ve seen reactors who claimed Hua Hua’s version is nothing special & do not understand why many viewers recommended this song. My suggestion is for reactors to check out the original before reacting to any of songs sang by any of the mentors on this show. Better yet do a back to back reaction of the original vs the rearrangement. Dad, I’m Home is originally a rap song by Jay Chou. The Next is the official English name, but Sound of War is the literal translation of it's Chinese name.

This song is from a programme names "Sound of War" and the original version is a rap song. Hua Chenyu rearranged and performed it within 24hrs. He said after the performance, “actually, there are many ways to express art. Previously I’ve always been telling everyone a story by using the method of singing, but this time I want to sing for you by telling a story.” For me, it’s not a sad song but a positive one that calls for anti-domestic violence.

Reading comments from another reaction, someone said the young man in white presented/challenged this song to Hua Hua. That's why they keep showing him. Hua Hua affected the guy so much, he wasn't able to perform his own song well and was voted off. Hua explained this performance by saying usually I sing a song to tell a story. Today I decided to tell a story so I could sing. Hua wanted to bring domestic violence out of the shadows. This performance did that in China.

Actually the long soliloquy part of the song is one of the so very chinese traditional performing art skill. Hua must have learnt and mastered it in his formation years to apply it to his recomposition of this song and be able to perform it skillfully at the same time. This performing art skill was also seen demonstrated in a song by another contestant Tenggar in The Singer. In this song called 父亲的草原母亲的河 Father's Grassland Mother's River , Tenggar has a senior doyenne singer to do an emotional soliloquy which he included at the start of the song. While for season 1,they didn't actually has english name for the show, therefore they just direct translate and called it the name that more close to the chinese name,hence "sound of war" And for season 2, they come out with a english name for the show, "the next"

In this television program, an amateur singer competes against a veteran singer. The veteran singer receives his song 24 hours in advance in front of the public and must completely modify it at the musical level. The amateur singer chose his song himself. Often, veterans' songs are real challenges. The song can be a flop, a theme song of a television program. In this case, the song is a rap, the results are completely different. The amateur singer is entitled to the advice of the musical director and all the tools that the show presents. The veteran has to think about what he wants to produce first and foremost. The audience votes for the best song between the two. The veteran wins often, but not always. For this competition, Hua Hua could have lost if the amateur had listened to the directions of the musical director, the latter had warned him for his song not to make such a note, and the latter did it and ruined his song.

You are lucky. While my father didn't hit anybody but me occasionally,and he wasn't a drinker, but other things went on that had to remain secret. When things like this happen but are covered by a veneer of respectability and "faith", and you grow up hearing how great someone is from others. Then you are told that you are of little value it plays with your mind. Then when the secrets come out years later and all the fall-out gets turned your direction, because you were just trying to reconcile the conflict inside you. Then everybody holds you responsible, because you are well, the screw-up of the family. And yet you still have those, 'I still need/want a Dad' and you realize it is never going to happen.

I think a singer doesn't choose a song like that without deep connection. It's not his own story, possibly it's like the story of someone dear to him because there's interpretation and performance in any show but that was beyond. He was singing from within.
