It's good to see that there are still people who are interested in restoring and preserving old machines like this. Living in a disposable world where we throw away everything old, we have lost an appreciation for the millions of engineers and craftsmen before us whose contributions have made possible all of the technologies we take for granted. This old engine is a thing of beauty that was made to last, and it's good to see that you were willing and able to restore it. You should be proud of your work, and I hope you get many years of enjoyment from it before you pass it on to someone else to care for it. Because of you, this machine could easily be running 100 years from now.

wee had one just like it that ran the milking machine in the 1930s before had electric power

I love that these engines are a such a slice of Japanese history; Thanks for restoring them!

Fun fact! The old fashioned Magnetos like this engine uses operated on a much lower spark voltage than today's common electronically assisted ones like or modern small engines use. But in the trade off for less peak voltage they put out much higher currents to make up for it which helped them burn off soot and carbon deposits that could form on the spark plugs better given how much of the fuels used back then were of widely varying quality. That's why the spark kernel is so much fatter and brighter. Less voltage but way more current. Also due to the much higher currents used, they really hurt when touched compared to the modern solid state operated units!

That is what I would qualify as a very respectful restoration. I,m glad that you did’nt scrape the paint and made a new paint job and I’m also glad that you didn’t polish any exposed parts like some others do, This is how a restored old item should look, fully functional and proud of its age. What a lovely patina on that engine. You could just see that in a Miyazaki manga workshop, as Porco works on his flying boat. I am very glad you didn't paint it.

不動エンジンを組み上げて「バスッ！」と言った時は何とも言えない感動を覚えます。

This guy is meticulous, a superb job. I see he used the same method to grind valves as I do.

This is the first real restoration i have seen on KZread, no fancy modern colours, especially Hamorite stuff. Good work, no - excellent work.

61才ですが、今を去ること55年程前 昭和40年頃(1965年頃かな)まだ5～7才頃だったと思います 田んぼで脱穀の際に親父が使っていたエンジンに良く似てます 確か当時は貧乏だったので借りてきてたんじゃないかなと思います 家族総出(ばあちゃん、父ちゃん、母ちゃん、兄、自分の5人)で田植え、草取り、稲刈り、脱穀などしてました 一昨年亡くなった父を思い出し エンジンなかなか始動しなくて、孤軍奮闘してた姿が思い浮かびました 子供ながらに、勇ましいエンジン音にビビりながら、脱穀機に連結したベルト外れないようにヤニ塗りさせられて巻き込まれないか怖かった事思い出します 昭和の機械がよみがえる様子見て つい見入ってしまいました いい動画ありがとうございました

I noticed he was using a "deflecting beam" torque wrench, I've used one a couple of times but preferred the micrometer torque wrench that "clicked" when you hit the proper torque poundage however, I've heard good stories about the deflecting beam type.

Excelente video, solo falta ver cómo se usaba antes, si con correas de cuero o en qué se usaba.

This is a wonderful restoration of the old machine, it keeps the original patina, I like that way more than to try to make it as "brandnew"... 👍😉

幼い頃に目にした記憶があります。改めて見ると昔のものは本当に良くできていますね。こんなに長い時間が経過していても、ちゃんと手入れすれば使えます。一つ一つの部品が丁寧に作られていますね。長く使い続けることを前提に作られています。このエンジンも再生作業も素晴らしい！

Вот что значит двигатель-миллионик!Отхонинговал шуруповертом,клапана им же притер.Гбц на красный герметик и погнал моточасы мотать.Лет через 50 может и до расточки цилиндров дойдет)))
