    The video stabilization on the selfie cam is definitely not doing anything. I probably would not have noticed because I never shoot video on the selfie myself, but of course other people will. Any lag on an HTC is bizarre, especially since our U11 is faster and just as fluid as our iPhone 8 Plus (we own both). Usually, lag is a Samsung trait, and the S7 Edge I bought new a couple years ago lagged and stuttered like a goat with rickets, and that was fresh out of the box. 1,000 lags on a Samsung gets a pass, 1 lag on an HTC gets called out, so that at least tells you that people are accustomed to smooth performance with HTC devices. The camera still shots have been great on the U12, and that is something I pay a lot of attention to because I also do photography once in a while. Edge sense has been great, and I get a LOT of shots that my buddies miss because they can't get the camera up as fast or easy. Audio is still a bonus feature, and although I think BoomSound got upstaged a little by LG's version called BoomBox Sound, the key feature is USonic which is embarrassingly better than anything LG provides to plug into their passive DAC. And yes, I'm a pro studio engineer out of Motown Records, and I'm perfectly qualified to make that call. USonic is the only smartphone headphone experience to even come close to what you hear in a real recording studio. Is the U12 worth $800? I would hesitate to spend that much, but I do not think the S9 or the iPhone X are worth that much either.

    Altema22 "the key feature is USonic which is embarrassingly better than anything LG provides to plug into their passive DAC" I'm not quite sure what you meant here, are you telling us that USonic earbuds are better than the bundled earphones comes with G7, or that USonic connected to U12+ sounds better than any headphones connected to G7? If former then I would totally agree with you but if it is the latter, that's never going to happen.

  • @Altema22

    @Altema22

    XtraDreamLantern17 - The specific comment you quoted was for the bundled headphones that come with the LG. The G7 has LG branded buds, the V30 had B&O headphones. The thing to remember is that the G7 comes with a passive headphone jack. The HTC U12 comes with an active headphone jack. Now, does USonic sound better than ANY headphone connected to a passive headphone jack? That depends on your preferences, as some people like excessive bass, some people like sizzling highs or dominant vocals. However, I'll simplify things by saying MY reference point is standing in the control room of a commercial recording studio, and how it sounds when I'm there with the producer and musicians on the final mix session. This is the original sound. How many headphones have I come across in over 20 years of professional use that can produce that "original" sound? Zero. And I use headphones plugged into pro recording consoles several times a week. I cut my teeth on the million dollar SSL console that Bob Dennis used, and headphones sourced through that still didn't cut it. The very first time I actually heard anything come close was the first time I tried USonic, and even though I thought nothing could surprise me, I kept saying "D@mn" ever time I heard them for the first two weeks. They are a mind job; seeming to disassemble the music and reassemble it so every instrument is distinct with amazing spatial positioning. You can close your eyes and point to individual instruments. Bass extension is another feature, and it took a few week to resist the urge of touching a table or wall to make sure the room was not shaking to the music. My favorite Sennheisers plugged into a pro console are not quite as good. My several sets of Sony's can't touch them. AKG MH50's can't touch them. And if a headphone can't top USonic when being fed by a pro console or dedicated studio headphone amp, they sure are not going to do it plugged into a cell phone. So in conclusion, if you are looking to experience what original music sounded like in the studio, I would say that USonic is better than pretty much everything you can plug into a passive headphone jack. Granted, that is not what everyone is looking for, but if you are looking for that original studio sound, USonic is the way to go.

    Jed Cutler agreed. Anything HTC does..ive noticed in general, reviewers start putting it as negatives..same thing if another "more popular" Brand does..they praise it and proclaims it as best. I noticed when the pixel 2 and 2xl came out..most reviewers started saying those were the first squeezable phone. When the u11 had implemented that before the pixels and that too it can trigger way more than just Google Now and be like the annoying bixby button!

    Same tbh, as a happy U11 user, I never understood why Pixel 2's Active Edge is superior when compared to the U11's Edge Sense. You can do so much more on Edge Sense than Active Edge! btw, I have tried out the U12+ in stores (I am in HK so availability is not an issue), the buttons work just fine, users just have to adjust their muscle memory to make them feel even better. Innovation comes with changes, and sometimes we have to adapt to them :) Heck, I even preordered a Flame red unit after trying it out!

    No stutters here. Your review is innacurate. Just try to be objective..Blinkfeed is not bloatware, Sense Companion is completely unintrusive and optional. Also I wonder, do you like to see phones with notch? I cannot understand this...Compared to the OnePlus 6, this is at least a 300$ better phone..Totally worth the money. Priced too high? Look at the quality. The S9 has its own issues.. Also, the uSonic earphones are bundled, so do your homework before saying that you are not sure if they come with the phone or not..What an uninformative review. Stay with your toys and continue being shallow. I wouldn't expect anything better from you

    Love all of your reviews, Jaime. Definitely your fan, here. But, if it's optional to turn off many of the "bloat" features you personally don't like, and you're not forced to use them at all, then I don't understand why you'd even devote a significant portion of your review to bashing that. Also, HTC will inevitably lower the price/offer a deal soon in the future, as it has done with all of its phones. It just came out. And, when the S9 had just come out, it not only sold at full price, but it was also was more expensive than the U12+. And, yes, the OnePlus is cheaper than the U12+, but OnePlus has been known for its budget pricing and has even less brand name recognition than HTC - and none of its history and heritage. So, it makes sense that HTC would price it higher than the OnePlus. The only seemingly legit problem seems to be the implementation of the touch "buttons," which might be resolved with a software update. The U12+ seemingly has an awesome design, high build quality, great sound both in-ear and external, a great LCD display, fast and smooth performance, awesome, Pixel 2-level photo/camera quality, truly innovative and useful features through Edge Sense and all the squeezing (that Google implemented on their phones and that Apple will be stealing in the future - read the patents), and it's all encased in a great-looking, unique package - yet the phone keeps getting vilified, at worst, and faintly praised, at best. I don't get it. Whatever the case, I can't WAIT to get my hands on it as soon as I'm done with my Verizon contract - and, hopefully, when the price drops. ;) Currently using my still new-looking and new-performing (except for its battery life, after the Oreo update), 2-year-old HTC 10 - and I absolutely LOVE it. In my humble opinion, it was, without a doubt, the BEST phone of 2016, handily beating out my wife's S7 (which ended up overheating, melting and deforming its back casing - and Samsung did nothing to replace it or reimburse her for it), and any of my friends iPhones, all of whom were supremely impressed with my HTC 10, its photo quality, build quality and sound quality.

    Hey dude, thanks. This is like you getting unsolicited email. If you didn’t request it, then why is it activated by default? Sorry but reviews are not designed to have the rest of a product make up for the things that are just not right. If HTC made this all part of the setup process as an opt in, then great. Sadly the way it is right now is just bloat.

    Totally get what you're saying. But, what if one likes the features they're presenting to you? Is it still similar to spam, or is it just an option for you to keep or delete? Whether you add it in or take it off, it's still a step you'd have to go through and it's still a, potential, added feature. But, I digress. Right now, I'm just excited that you even replied to my message. :) Keep up your awesome work!

    I agree with everything you say about the HTC10 because I'm using my two-year-old model right now. But then my black One M7 is happily running as a media player after five years. I'm afraid that with this update I might end up disabling not just the bloated software options but also probably the edge features themselves - which seems to render the upgrade pointless. If only they had used those bezels for a proper stereo setup now the fingerprint button has migrated to the back. And I love metal! Why glass?

    bezels look out dated really what should brands do then go with the notch that is the problem . I think htc u12 screen looks awesome and it has no notch that is the plus in u12 unlike other oem and how can you even compare the oneplus 6 with this phone if you are doing that then people don't have to look at any other phone like s9plus, iphone x, p20, pro g7 etc why even bother. there is a market for every phone oneplus is ggod for budget freindly consumers, for people that like extra like better camera ip rating better display , audio and to some extent preferred skin then they can buy htc u12 plus and i really like the squeeze feature on this phone makes it stand out

    HTC isn't going to make a comeback by pricing it's devices at Samsung & iPhone levels. Especially when you can get those Samsung's devices at discounted prices through deals and trade-ins. I paid $650 directly from Samsung for my brand new note 8 by trading in my LG G5. HTC needs be be aggressive with pricing to get back into the game.

  • @johnnydwyer4261

    @johnnydwyer4261

    RojasTKD7 And why is that? Because so many people are just numb to the fact of what's best instead of popular. I have the Note 8 myself. Paid 930.00 right out the gate for the phone, then 2 weeks later T-Mobile lowers the price by a 100.00. I then bought the HTC U11 plus for for 800.00. So I paid 130.00 more for the Note 8. And beings I own both devices right now, you would think I know a little about them. This is what I got for 130.00 dollars more with the Note 8. I got a S pen and a screen that's slightly better if viewing them side by side. Otherwise you would never notice because HTC hands down makes the best LCD displays. Dont get me wrong, I for one am a fan of the S pen. I dont use it all the time but it's nice to know it's there for when I want to. What I got for 130.00 dollars cheaper with the U11 plus, is a device that is superior in performance, superior in sound quality with or without headphones. A phone that has a much better camera. Was super disappointed with the Note 8 camera from day one. Thankfully the U11 makes up for it in a big way. Way better battery life, the U11 is a few months newer so time will tell. But C'mon man, 10 months in and my battery is already trash on the 130.00 more expensive device. How bout auto correct on the Note 8? You said you have one so you should know exactly what I mean, straight trash. The U11 is fantastic to send text, messages, comments and so on. It's a freaking nightmare on the Note 8. It literally puts words not even close to the words I correctly typed in. I owned all the Notes except for the original. And while I can say the Note 8 was the best Samsung device by a landslide. Its nowhere near as good as the HTC U11 plus. So what is your point about HTC pricing? I know first hand HTC is producing the better device, because I own both. I'm sure HTC has tested there own devices intensively against other brands and feels there device is as good or better. That's the great thing my father instilled in me. To keep a open mind and judge for myself, not by the words of others. People have a tendency to be followers, not lead! People have a need to be misguided by advertisements. Hey it's on t.v. all the time, it must be the best because the company that makes it tells us it is. You know why they call advertisement branding? Because they know that humans glue their eyes to that t.v., and just like cattle, sheep being branded with that hot poker, they brand you with there bullshit. They own you all the same. Funny thing is, you all think you made that choice yourself to be a Apple fanboy or Samtard. You all have NO CLUE you were hypnotized by commercials. My point being, why should HTC lower there standards when compared to a iPhone 8 or 10, the U11 plus or U12 is a better device. When compared to the current Note or Galaxy it shows the U11 plus and U12 being a better device. The U12 plus smashes the S9 plus in performance, takes better photos even in lowlight which was Samsungs big branding strategy. Hey to each there own my man. I actually like to own the best for that much money, not be told I own the best just because its popular.

    My point is this. Samsung and Apple are market leaders, HTC is barely a player anymore. To get to where they used to be they need to be competitive with pricing. They have made some decent phone for years now, but have still fallen behind. If they to start making some progress they may not be along much longer. Offering a more competitive price might help them grow a greater market share before it's too late. In a wold that I can pick up a flagship for considerably less via deals HTC isn't doing it's self any favors. The masses aren't going to buy it either, if they are not more price competitive. I'm actually happy with my Note 8's camera and I don't use the Samsung keyboard, I use the google keyboard on all my devices. The camera maybe not the best but definitely good enough for me and better than many others. It has features I like. What's a better device is an opinion and individuals will disagree. I have not said Samsung devices are better just the HTC isn't going to catch them selling at $800+. I've said nothing about them making bad devices. I've liked HTC even bore they where making Android phone and the made OEM devices for AT&T (in the Windows Mobile days). This Seems like a very good device with probably the best camera they have ever made. It's the first HTC device in a long time that has caught my interest, but I'm not paying $800 for it. Just like I wouldn't pay it for a Samsung or any other brand. Difference is I had a means of getting the Samsung for less via trade in directly through Samsung. I doubt I'll be able to get the HTC for that much anytime soon. If I could I'd consider it. I never said I owned the best nor did I get it because it popular. I got it because It offer the features I like and I could get it at a price I was willing to pay ($650). Contrary to what you seem to believe I'm not a simple sheep that just buys what's popular. I buy what I like, feature wise, and is at a price I'm willing to pay. Just because that is different from you doesn't make me a mindless follower. Bottom line is HTC need to start grabbing market share and just making a good device isn't goint to cut it. They have been making good devices, yet market share keeps slipping away. Competitive prices for those good devices might make people take a second look, other wise there might not be anymore HTC and that would be a sad thing.

    The M8 was the last HTC phone I bought. Loved it - it is still my desk drawer backup (running Android 8.1). You are right: timing of the launch at a price that is now non-competitive will suppress sales. Too bad really - since HTC produces good phones and has traditionally offered a bootloader unlock option.

Some are going crazy about the LCD screen and others about the audio jack and I'm just sitting here like DOES THE PHONE LAST MORE THAN THREE YEARS with no communication issues (i.e. text and phone calls) and how is the Customer Support in need of having to contact. Everything else is just childs play to me LOL I'm defiantly purchasing this phone. My HTC Desire still works like a charm and amazed by the batter life after having this phone for 5 years. The internal memory is the reason for the upgrade now.

    I don't think it is overpriced at all. The thing is it is a premium mobilephone and it is actually cheaper than the galaxy s9+ and i would be a little suspicious if htc sold it at a lower price because that is the price range you pay for premium phones and htc do make premium phones and this is the flagship model. I think there is too much attack on htc and people always complain even if they do it right. If the price was higher than samsung i would understand but it is lower and they continue to complain. Mobiles like iphone cost a fortune a lot more than the htc and yet i don't see the rage and the complaints among people, they just accept because,, yeah it is an IPHONE, the battery life on iphone have always been bad and yet you don't see people complaining about it that much. On an htc on the other hand if the battery life is a little bit under the competition all the reviews would butcher it, i don't know if it is extremely high expectations that htc must do things perfectly right in every area or what it is..

    Thanks Jaime. Wow! Thanks for including the video samples. If I pay $800 for a phone and that is the best it can do in videos, I'm taking it back, disgruntled to say the least. Actually, as you went over all the benefits and the drawbacks to this phone, I think we're in the same boat, I just couldn't justify why I paid $800 for a phone that is more of 'also ran' than a leader in it's product rankings. Yes, the dollar doesn't buy what it used to but the dollar isn't so weak that I'd ever shell out 800 of them for a poser phone.

    I sure hope HTC are taking there time releasing the phone for purchase because they want to fix all the bugs people are reporting ie the buttons. Some reviewers are saying that the button work better when not pressed hard like standard buttons we are all used to - so I can live with that! A lot of reviewers think HTC should not price there phone this high but still willing to recommend an iPhone which costs a lot more. Are you guys forgetting that HTC were the 1st to build an Android & Windows phone! I'm still gonna buy the u12+ as I've been missing Sense and use my galaxy as remote for the TV.

Music delicious by 🔊 or 🎧. 🔋capacity enough for my purpose. But was one killing feature which makes my decision to return 📱 to seller. That was buttons reasons. When I pressed button I had no answer. I think it is because when you press two buttons so gently at once software recognizing of pressing is stuck. Maybe it is to recover by some software changing? I don't know. Okay, I want a head of butter u12 plus even though all of the reviews and videos out there are pretty loud about the buttons being bad. And I don't think they're bad at all... Very interesting, I was worried, but in my personal opinion the buttons do give a decent taptic feedback that does feel like I would personally expect just pressing pressure-sensitive new style buttons... I guess I just didn't expect them to give the feeling of original clicking buttons. Phone's amazing so far!

  • @antmakov

    @antmakov

    6 жыл бұрын

    First I'm not sure if the dxomark is objective because P20 got very high score but many people including MKBHD mention they tend to over sharpen their pictures (all settings on Auto) although this phone got very high score on dxomark. Second like any other benchmark its basically just a number it doesn't matter now days if you got one million points or whatever the more important aspect is to have a efficient phone with great battery life. Usually all the flagships have the same specs (SD845, 6/8GB RAM, 64/128/256GB...), the software and the design is what makes the phone unique standout from the rest of the phones. Third HTC is in a big trouble because they loss money every quarter. They need to sell more units, even if they sell this device for 700-750$ they still could make a profit on it, but I think they think they are like Apple or Samsung but unfortunately it's not

    I'm well aware of the great invention and the history of HTC had, the problem that now HTC is facing is bankruptcy because they don't seem to understand their market or they have zero advertising. They usually price their devices too high although other competitors price their flagship phones lower and while having same specs (maybe less features but still the features that they have are well made like the OP6). I hope they could turn around before it will be too late for them

    Personally I absolutely love HTC phones the one series were stunning and now I say the same of the U series. I love their UI. Unfortunately my U11 one day while I was holding it had an error code and Sprint could not fix it... They sent me a brand new LG THINQ I actually think this phone is OK but me and the UI do not get along....😒. I wish someone would find it in their heart to trade me this phone for an HTC U12. I would trade in a heart beat..... It is absolutely brand new and has been in a case ever since. Any way I do hope to get an HTC U12 at some point but sadly like other carriers Sprint has something against them and do not sell them in their stores.... So very sad to me.

    3:57 By that token, isn't OnePlus in the same dilemma? Advertising a clean, near-stock experience, but having their own customisations? I think many will appreciate those features and as you said, they're *optional*. Personally, I think if I had to pick a phone today, it would be the U12+. It's just slightly more expensive than the S9+ (and no, there are no "buy one, get one free" deals here) and although not perfect, it has the best combination of features for me.
