Stoichkov will remain a rare gem in the history of Ballon d'Or winners and the World Cup Golden Shoe holders. How often a Bulgarian player can win these awards? It won't happen again... most probably. His achievements are historical for Bulgaria 🇧🇬 and it's his and his teammates' honor to put Bulgaria amongst the biggest football nations in the world.

No it was not underrated he played for barcelone he got the ballon d or and win the champions league in 92

He is underrated btw. You can win the balon dor but still be underrated. A.k.a Rivaldo, Figo, Stoichkov and Baggio. Stoichkov for me was better than the great Ronaldinho. He had more impact for club and country but bcos he wasn't as flashy and played in a time with more quality players and less money in football he isn't spoken of the same.

@@AVAXIIhe probably saying they was the third best team of the World Cup. And they probably was….but as you say they got battered by Sweden in the third fourth place game. Those games are pointless anyway.

I am still wondering how Sweden managed to demolish this Bulgarian team with 4-0 in the game for 3rd place. Sweden were fantastic during World Cup 1994 (I am Swedish btw), but never did I think they would beat Bulgaria this easy. This is the best Bulgarian team ever, IMO.

In that game Bulgaria didn’t care about the final score. They just wanted to make Stoichkov the top spcorer

Bulgaria and Sweden came from the same qualifying group. Before that Bulgaria had a wonderful record vs Sweden in official games. During the qualifiers the games ended 1-1 and 0-2 for Sweden. After that 4-0 a kind of curse was laid upon Bulgaria vs Sweden. In the next 22 years Bulgaria met Sweden in 6 official games. Lost all of them with a total score of 16-0. It was 2017, and that's the last game vs Sweden in the history of this rivalry so far, when the lions won vs the three crowns and at last managed to score. 3-2 for Bulgaria.

Stoichkov's goal against Mexico is top 3 of the 94 tournament. Pure class. There was nothing Jorge Campos could do to save that cannon of a shot.

3rd place games in world cups don't really matter. Teams also take it lightly after highly intense previous games. There is no point of having a 3rd place game in world cups at all IMO.
