She was set to a very good school, and also sent to Swiss finishing school. Other children cope with the death of parents, and turn out just fine. Diana's stepmother would have loved her and guided her, if Diana had allowed her to.

They just teach (or taught, because there's only one left in Switzerland) upper class girls good manners, how to set a table, how to decorate a house, and things like this. Diana wasn't taught science, philosophy, history, all those matters that expand one's mind. Also, you say "Other children cope with the death of parents, and turn out just fine". I ask you: are those children you're talking about stalked, spied and every day in the cover of a magazine? Is their every word, gesture, facial expression under scrutiny, analyzed and commented over? Too much celebrity at a very young age, coupled by an unstable childhood in the vast majoriy lead to problems. Look at Michael Jackson. Or even less famous people like Macaulay Culkin or Drew Barrymore who spend her teen age years under drugs. Or even Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes

The interview starts off with Princess Michael saying "I came to England to learn interior design because you couldn't in Austria". Princess Michael was born in Czechoslovakia but actually grew up in Australia in a suburb called Waverly, Sydney and attended Kincoppal School in Rose Bay, Sydney. She appears to be either leaving out her childhood completely or deliberately fabricating her background to give viewers the impression she grew up in a castle in Austria, when in fact she grew up in Sydney, Australia. Her mother owned a beauty salon in Double Bay, Sydney called Marie France, which has expanded and is still in existence as the Marie France Group.

Yup. She also swiftly dodged talking about her father, the former Nazi. Her father joined the Nazi’s super early-in 1930! He was also a member of the elite SS. She has clearly spun some fantasy world in her head about her aristocratic life growing up in a Austria where she “benevolently” looked after the Austrian “peasants”. WTF.

I never really knew much about HRH Princess Michael of Kent but, after watching this little interview, I have really come to like her and her down-to-earth mannerism.

I love princess Michael! She's just stunning and fascinating! As a history lover I could listen to her all day! ❤

She was spot on about Diana. Those of you complaining saying she called Diana common. No, she said she had the common touch. Which means she could relate to everyone. It wasn’t an insult. The problem is that there are still too many people who want to make Diana a saint. She wasn’t and the true facts are easy to find. It was a tragedy that Charles and Diana married, but we were all caught up on the fairytale.

She looks incredible!! she's in her sixties here surely, she'll be 71 shortly (2016) beautiful. Also very articulate, funny charming and most importantly intelligent. And she has written a novel in my favourite genre and my fave subject, can't wait to read it!!

What a refreshingly forthright and honest Lady! I enjoyed this interview so much. Her discussion of being a Royal Princess and Catholic in Anglican England was quite interesting.

Bryan Lucas you might not like her but she is a Royal Highness. She was born an aristocrat and one of the the last ones to marry into the Royal Family. She does not have a title on her own as her husband is the youngest Kent brother and only the older one is Duke of Kent. If she had married the older brother she would be HRH the Duchess of Kent.

I think HRH Princess Michael had a love-hate relationship with Diana, Princess of Wales. She may have had some level of catiness with the late Diana, Princess of Wales once saying that she (Princess Michael) has the most amount of royal blood to be married with the BRF since Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh (her grandmother was a Princess of Windisch-Graetz) without considering that Diana was descended from both Charles II and James II though illegitimately and to Philip Louis I, Elector of the Palatinate (though morganatically) meaning basically related to also all French, Austrian, German and Italian royal families. Still, I think she also respected and adored her being the two of the last ladies being born from European titled nobility.

That jumped out at me as well. Diana was the daughter of an Earl and born into the the upper class so therefore had the very best education, at least up to secondary level. To say that she had little education is not true by a conventional measure and is just the toffee-nosed, blue blood way of saying she was thick.

So nice to hear her rather than tabloid misinformation; sounds a very informed, articulate, sharp person: knowledgeable, and affable, a good combination.

I was sitting about 5 metres away from her at the Oxford Book Fair in 2004 at Oxford University. It was a bit of a shock to be so close to her when she didn't have any bodyguards or security personnel. I just sat there like a lemon listening to her talk. A bit nerve-racking. She looks so Austrian you expect her to start talking German.

Oh dear - I am rather disappointed that Princess Michael chose to psychoanalyse both the late Princess Diana as well as the currently living Sarah, Duchess of York.

She is fabulous!

He has all the charisma of Ironside.

She has a lovely speaking voice. Avery nice and underrated woman in my opinion.

Wow. I would love to meet her. What an intelligent and witty woman. As a fellow student of history I found her fascinating.

Her continental lilt is a fabrication. Her formative years were spent entirely in Australia and she has lived her entire adult life in Britain. She has never lived on the continent, except as a baby.

She was in Australia in her teenage years not Austria. Maybe she’s too posh about being in Australia in the colonies

Given her bad press, she comes across as surprisingly articulate and straightforward. Not in the least snobbish as you might expect.

She looks very smart but also very careful what to say even when it comes to “yellow papers”. I can’t trust her writings in history, I believe she can’t be neutral.

Pablo Sergio, interviewing is very different from conversation. He has to steer the dialogue, get clarity for the listeners etc. No point her rambling on if the previous point wasn't clear and the editor will have to edit it out. So it's best to get clarity immediately, then the editor can keep it in.

Although no dummy, she's not particularly articulate. I think what you mean is that she has a well-spoken accent. They are not the same thing.

The Princess enunciates very clearly and her speech is quite 'clipped'. A very pleasant voice, albeit rather 'elevated' compared with most accents nowadays!

@@antejl7925 Her native language is German, then Hungarian, then French - she does many interviews on French TV, then she learned English. I don't know if she knows any Czech... It's very possible. Pretty miraculous since her English sounds totally native now.

She is just lovely. Such an elegant lady.

She is only royal because she married into it, her dad was a ss officer not her fault though, she does nothing wrong but she has a lot to say, our queens left the room over her chomping at the bit, and usd to openly call prince Michael boring, out spoken or rude, take your pick

She’s known to work hard for “the firm” but the Queen has provided her a VERY handsome allowance. She would demand British Air bump a passenger off the plane, pulling rank of a royal, without a second thought,and of course always 1st class. Free. .

Bcos I recall amongst a few other things she made sure the traffic stopped to let her entourage through when it was not necessary, she always makes a point in getting everything for free ..she lived in a manor house and paid a peppercorn rent and then had to sell it(Nether Lypiet ) racism came into it when she told an American to get back to the Colonies ..everything she did made the news back then self serving and a convoluted snob even the QUEEN made a remark about the way she was

Hardly dum, she’s highly articulate and intelligent.

History is where it’s at. We need more of the dialogue.

I am *not* a royalist and do not live in the UK. The only two people (other than the Queen) who deserves respect, are in my view, HRH Princess Michael of Kent and HRH Princess Alexandra, The Hon. Lady Ogilvy.

+Tim Ruben Queen Elizabeth II did in fact call her "Our Val" meaning that she found Princess Michael quite haughty and conceited. From what I know, the Queen is actually more down to earth than Princess Michael. This is just the Queen's personal opinion. Princess Michael might be less down to earth than the Queen but not to the extent of being haughty or conceited. In this interview she comes across as very personable and friendly not to mention fascinating, intelligent, and beautiful.

The Queen must be jealous of her, because the Queen never got the education she wanted, and she has always thought of herself as uneducated and felt bad about it. All her life she was only taught the constitution, the royal protocol, history and french. While Princess Michael of Kent is an intellectual woman, indipendent, who lived her life to the fullest

In 2004 she was accused of racistly insulting black diners at a restaurant in New York. A spokesperson acknowledged that the Princess had been angry at the group, who were seated on a table near her, but denied that she had told them to "go back to the colonies".

I am not very found of her mainly due to what I have read about her but having heard her talk, I must admit reluctantly that she is a very intelligent woman. Educated, independent, fun to talk to as well as beautiful. When she talked about Di like that I wanted to slap her but unfortunately, it's true. Having read, watched movies about Di, I have myself come to the conclusion that her upbringing contributed much to her emotional and mental wellbeing in that awful marriage. If she had been smart, she would not have married Charles OR played the game for that matter like the aristocrats do. Sleep around and act that you're married happily to the rest of the world. I would like to read her books. History has always fascinated me. Like her.

Diana knew that chuckie was dithering with Camilla who had been his lover before. She needed love and affection from someone. I knew the day the engagement was announced that he was not right for her, as when the interviewer asked "are you in love?" Diana immediately said "of course!" but Charles said "whatever that is" a typical male answer of someone who is NOT in love. He was only doing his "duty" by getting married and he couldn't have Camilla at the time. Plus he had to produce an heir.

It funny she never mentions she grew up in Australia, went to the Sacred Heart Girls School in Sydney, left for Europe in the late 1960’s. Her brother and half brother still live in Australia as did her mother who died in the late 80’s. So her accent is a little manufactured. I like her don’t get me wrong, I’m just not sure why she never discusses her formative years growing up in Sydney Australia or her family.

No wonder he’s not impressed with her , I’m not,

I wish I could understand what the negative comments were about several months ago when she met Meghan Markle.. people were saying awful things and putting her down and saying that she's Prejudiced... and they were saying something about slavery or that her father or recent ancestor had been a slave trader or some crazy stuff... does anybody know what that was all about ? I had never heard of Prince Michael until then... obviously a great researcher and really knows her history ... sounds like she has led a fascinating life. Also I agree with her when she refuses to talk about other royals who are still alive... this man that interviewed her surely must know that if you speak about the Royal Family , if you dish on them, you can be ostracized for life.. they have done it to a number of people.

People say so many things about anyone with high profile. So much is untrue. I find this lady (based upon this one interview) to be very intelligent, articulate, and gracious. I love history and I enjoy listening to historians.

That’s the fastest 41 minutes of any KZread video I’ve seen - gracious, charming, eloquent, bright, intelligent and interesting... What a lady!
