I can not even imagine what he must have felt when he finished writing this song. He must have known then that it is a masterpiece. The lyrics alone are pure genius poetry, and then there's the music... I listen to this song over and over again in awe. Watching him sing it he seems to go to a higher plane. How he appears to just stand there and sing it, and yet that voice and emotion rip everything apart. Hozier is beyond brilliant.

I just wish it was my hands in his pockets. Or that I could put him in my pocket with my most cherished babies ever. No no his hands in my pockets from behind. Sounds like a fucked up murder mystery starring the incomparable Hozier. I can't not think these thoughts about him. He's a damn male sireeen. He doesn't even need a mic the way his voice carries. He just drips with heat. Jesus it's hot in here but why are my hands so cold? Right, because they're not in his pockets where they would be so warm. Okay I'm shutting the fuck up now.

This version sounds more just depressed, lost and deadly almost the the original version. There is a certain mourning to it, like he’s talking about the relationship in past tense, that the lover has died. Like he wants to die with them. Which is a stark contrast to the original which sounds like late night sneak away and a sinful pleasure. It sounds so full of passion and life and adrenaline. I think that this is why Hoizer is amazing, because he can take the same song, same lyrics and same genre and completely change the underlying tones of the music.

No, they can't. Gay is not natural. I don't care what excuse you use. At one side, scientists consider human evolved from apes and are considered as just a species of animal. So, if human is the same as any other animals, why do you think there are no gay animals? I'm not talking about some fish that can become male or female based on certain circumstances, I'm talking about other mammals?. Do you ever saw a mammal having a gay relationship? Why only humans have the need to legalise and practice gay relationship? So, humans are animals or a special being which are different from animals?

I can not even imagine what he must have felt when he finished writing this song. He must have known then that it is a masterpiece. The lyrics alone are pure genius poetry, and then there's the music... I listen to this song over and over again in awe. Watching him sing it he seems to go to a higher plane. How he appears to just stand there and sing it, and yet that voice and emotion rip everything apart. Hozier is beyond brilliant.

Absolutely sublime. The sadness and hurt come through. Andrew knows how to grip your heart and squeeze. I adore the accompanying instrumental and vocal arrangements, too. The complex chords really set the mood for the lyrics and the incomparable voice.

This is an amazing song. What I love most are all of his different renditions of the same song. It makes me feel like I'm listening to it for the first time; almost like a new song even though it's a song we all know and love. Has anyone seen the version of Hozier singing "take me to church" in a NYC subway? He did a pop-up concert in a random subway area with backup singers and I swear that was one of the purest moments of music I've ever seen. Y'all should search for that: Hozier subway take me to church. Bravo, Hozier!
i could listen to this song thousand times a day without getting tired.

Best version I've seen. Also love seeing him singing it with his hands in his pockets lol. Show's how he doesn't give a shit about what he looks like but really means the lyrics.
The dissonance of the strings and the backing vocals against Hozier's lead here makes this song sound impressive on a different level!! Props to Mr. Alex Ryan for the composing!
I can't get enough of him. My son is so sweet, and bought me an autographed print of Andrew for Xmas. I'll cherish it for both reasons for all of my lifetimes.
