Lycris: My lover's got humor She's the giggle at a funeral Knows everybody's disapproval I should've worshiped her sooner If the Heavens ever did speak She's the last true mouthpiece Every Sunday's getting more bleak A fresh poison each week "We were born sick", you heard them say it My church offers no absolutes She tells me, "Worship in the bedroom" The only Heaven I'll be sent to Is when I'm alone with you I was born sick, but I love it Command me to be well A-, Amen, Amen, Amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life If I'm a pagan of the good times My lover's the sunlight To keep the Goddess on my side She demands a sacrifice Drain the whole sea Get something shiny Something meaty for the main course That's a fine looking high horse What you got in the stable? We've a lot of starving faithful That looks tasty That looks plenty This is hungry work Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Good God, let me give you my life No masters or kings when the ritual begins There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene Only then I am human Only then I am clean Oh, oh, Amen, Amen, Amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life

MomijiHyuga804 she airplanes the lyrics on the screen and once it got to the chorus she was like “hang on, I don’t understand this part.” Then the girl was like, it’s ok we’ll explain it at the end.” She told us to stop air playing before the song ended and then we had this whole debate about it putting out the wrong ideas on Catholics. And some girl was like “yeah, but half the people don’t even care about what the song is about, if it’s a good song then it doesn’t really matter.” Then the bell went.

For anyone wondering, the video is based on actual events that were happening in Russia at the time Hozier made this song. At the time, there were these horrendous attacks that were taking place against members of the LGBTQ community in Russia. There had been an increase in attacks carried out by essentially Neo Nazi gangs against LGBTQ youths. They posed as other LGBTQ youths in chatrooms and message boards to lure 14, 15, 16-year-olds to places where they thought that they would be safe and they attacked them and filmed those attacks and would torture them on camera and post those on social media. As a gay guy I get goosebumps everytime I see or hear this song because it represents how lucky I am to live where and when I do. (I live with my extremely homophobic family so it's not all sunshine and roses but at least I'm not being tortured and have the freedom to leave one day!) Much love to everyone listening to this song!

michali schlosser if they die they will go to heaven..but if you die you will go to hell bc God always said that people should be free to love..He never said that gays are abominations..people like you are the abominations to this world and its sad bc you will never find real love..i dont feel sorry for gays,i m proud of them bc they are brave enough to face people like you..but i feel so sorry for you bc you dont know anything about love and kindness... you have no idea how it feels to see someone you love get hurt from ignorant people(like you) bc he/she is just different from them...to be different its not shame its remarkable.i really hope one day when and if you have children (and i really hope for the opposite..bc you are not good to be a parent) but if you do i hope your kids turn to be gays..then you will realise how stupid and ignorant you are now...

Why confused? Religion doesnt follow to many set standards. You can literally make an alter out of legos, kill a bunch of fire ants, glue them together to look like a camaro and worship that calling yourself a High Poobah of your newly founded Crustifarian religion... Hardly Bhuddist or Christian or the like, but in the end its what you worship.

I’m Christian, I feel so terrible for anyone who’s been discriminated for their race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc. due to the church. It’s the literal opposite to what we’re supposed to be doing. The Bible says love everyone, including gay people. I don’t know how there’s so many Christians who think they’re better than everyone else and get to condemn people.

@@anamelchior7194 the stupid thing is that the bible doesn't really condemn homosexuality. there's Genesis 9:20-27, Genesis 19:1-11, Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, etc. But these are strictly directed at the sons of israel, descendants of abraham. Most were instructions given by Moses specifically to the hebrew peoples. And a significant part of Christ's legacy was making it so that these rules did not apply to the gentiles, or non-jews. The only occurrences of condemnation for homosexuality in the new testament are 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Timothy 1:10 and Romans 1:26-27. In these cases, however, they are truly meant to condemn 1. Male Prostitution, 2.Pederasty and 3. The Cult of Isis people really need to learn their fuckin history. it really bothers me how many christians walk around committing countless affronts against their religion. there's nothing about christianity that outlaws homosexuals except an ignorance about which parts of the bible actually apply to you.

All over the world there are misinterpretations about the bible and what it says. God never intended man to define by their own means. I love God and I understand the word. Some countries don't and it has escalated so far now it has resulted in hate crimes and deaths. I feel despair and sorrow for all those subject to this. The fact is no matter what man says the bible means one thing and you can put your two sense into just don't destroy the real meaning of the bible. Don't destroy anything. Pray for the mislead churches and the false prophets. I know I'm not gay but I get it homosexuals will always be hated and bashed but God sees all sin the same none worse than the other. He may seem harsh because he says NOT TO DO IT. AND HE GAVE HIS SON THAT DIED ON THE CROSS TO FORGIVE OUR SIN. it's complicated I know but only a soul that is willing to criticism not by man but by a supernatural being will be open to these words. You may dismay the bible however you want but there are truths that are not meant for mans opinion. I am very saddened by the world we live in. Humans could be on earth for another 6,000 but you won't. Please realize that a true Christian doesn't slander and doesn't judge but leaves God to judge others. He does love everyone as I do and I hope this somewhat clarified what " religion " everyone thinks is poison.

I don't think all Christians hate gay people. I'd even venture to say that the majority of them believe you should be free to live your life and be happy with who you are. I was raised Christian and I don't ever remember being taught anything other than to love thy neighbor. I realized what religion really was a long time ago and don't have any religious beliefs today but there was nothing bigoted or hateful in what was preached to me growing up.

I would disagree. Following anything blindly just trains yo uto follow other things blindly. religion is bad because it is bad training for brains. sheep behaviour is a trait we needed back when we did not have technology. Now it is not needed anymore, and rationality should be sought, not dogma.

I found out the meaning of this song pretty young. My cousin was gay, everybody knew it but not everybody accepted it. Our family was fine with it, but he got bullied the shit out of at school. I was very close with him. I’ve also always known I was different, he told me to be myself, and he showed me this song. he told me what it meant, in young person terms. I remember crying, I found it so disgusting how you could hate one another. He taught me to pursue love and peace. Those are the morals i still live by. I don’t know where my cousin is now, since he was distant. I hope he’s alright. I hope he knows I’m doing well and appreciate him.

I find it ironic how you people argue with each other on a video of a song that promotes peace. I am agnostic, and support gay rights. Should God be real, and being gay is a sin, then that is for THAT GOD to decide, not you. I was once a Christian and I distinctly remember being told not to judge people, and to respect my peers. Grow up. This video promotes nothing but peace. It promotes the acceptance of all people in this world, regardless of their religion, sexual orientation, or even views on either of the two. Learn some respect when you talk to people.

It's because every human has a hard coded, genetic primordial fear in their DNA. That is the fear of the unknown. This applies to EVERYTHING that is different from what YOU KNOW based on your perception of reality, and how your unique experiences. This is why I fucking hated highschool. It's litearlly one big circle jerk of jugement. Every one has their group of frinds that are somewhat like them, and if you don't fit in to their "click" you are outcasted by that group and most of the people in it. This even applies to the adult world, which is fucking sad as fuck. You would think most in highschool would grow up, and be like "THAT EXPERIENCE WAS FUCKING AWFUL! Let's be more open to our fellow homosapian." But no, we judge what we don't understand, even if it is subconcious, and not conciously. Looking at this issue down to it's absolute raw, unfiltered core is horribly depressing.

Hozier - Take Me To Church - Lyrics My lover's got humor She's the giggle at a funeral Knows everybody's disapproval I should've worshiped her sooner If the Heavens ever did speak She is the last true mouthpiece Every Sunday's getting more bleak A fresh poison each week "We were born sick", you heard them say it My church offers no absolutes She tells me 'worship in the bedroom' The only heaven I'll be sent to Is when I'm alone with you I was born sick, but I love it Command me to be well Amen, Amen, Amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life If I'm a pagan of the good times My lover's the sunlight To keep the Goddess on my side She demands a sacrifice To drain the whole sea Get something shiny Something meaty for the main course That's a fine looking high horse What you got in the stable? We've a lot of starving faithful That looks tasty That looks plenty This is hungry work Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life No masters or kings when the ritual begins There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene Only then I am human Only then I am clean Amen, Amen, Amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life

If you want to use only one that’s just embarrassing for you have no idea what your talking about.. the Bible doesn’t say support sin your supposed to love your neighbor not support/love their sin which is what you are making it seem like your saying ✋ I agree people shouldn’t hate on them bc that comes from satan . No disrespect intended, but I really think that organized religions is one of the reasons why society is divided. There are religions with such huge following that calls each other out on television. Shaming each other for misinterpreting the Bible. Focus on spirituality. Sit down in silence and talk you your God, Divine Power, universe or whatever you believe in.
