Thanks for a great video. I have the Ultra Metal version. Once I got the handle off I found the valve didn't want to come out, thought it was held in by somthing else but just needed a good tug. Also on this version there is a piston behind the valve with a slightly larger o-ring but I didn't have that sizes in my kit. Possibly 6mmID by 2mm? Anyway not damaged but care needed to align with valve when you put it back together. You actually need to unscrew and remove the metal hose connector to get a view of the piston. Recommend doing this before taking the valve out so you can see how it fits together.

Really helpful video, thank you for publishing it. I used it to repair my Hozelock Multi Spray Ultramax which had a sticky trigger. The silicone lubricant made all the difference. I'm not sure if this applies to other variations of the sprayer but on the ultramax there is another small valve rattling around in the body that needs to be perfectly aligned before fitting the trigger valve. The valve needs to be at the top of the gun with the slot pointing towards the trigger. The end of the trigger valve then fits into this slot. It's quite fiddly but doable.

Fixed mine - the two lungs that fit the grip had broken off so I drill two holes right through the grip and the body - then put a thin piece of metal (basically a nail) through and it worked. The fulcrum was just the same - can post a pic or two if others require them.

Thanks for this, used this to fix a similar spray gun with a stuck spring. One thing we found when reassembling was it was easier to put the red locking part in last. First do the yellow handle, then hold it down and the long spring / red lock slide in easily

Len Scapoff, glad you liked it. I did the video when I discovered a complete lack of repair information online. Other than the dubious quality of their O rings, I find Hozelok spray guns OK.

Well, now you are the repair information online. I got many years service from the Hozelock gun and bought another when it started to leak behind the trigger, figuring I'd had my money's worth. But I'm now glad I didn't throw it away. Incidentally, how have you found the quality of the Universal O ring kit you referenced?

The O ring kit that I bought from ebay has been fine so far. I don't know the material specification of their rings but that can't be any worse than the Hozelok ones.

These triggers seem to be poorly constructed on the cheap. Ive had multiple triggers that leaked in someway. They should last years with trouble free performance but i guess it helps that they are not too hard to fix. We shouldnt have to though.

Yes, well I tried this, but there wasn't anything wrong with the o ring, in fact it was still covered in silicon grease, I tried cleaning it all internally, so that everything seated squarely as I had it all in pieces anyway. I reassembled it only to find that water still continued to gush out inside of it. But you know although it's less than a year old, I thought I'll just purchase another one and a different make obviously. But it does greave me how companies churn out this totally unrepairable landfill for their profits at the cost of the planet. We must all resist the temptation to follow this route of illusory convenience.

If it was less than a year ago I would have returned it to the supplier or manufacturer so at least they get to see how badly their product performed. If nobody returns faulty goods the supplier will not know about the problem. Outside of the warranty period you can still claim that the product was unfit for purpose. To be fair, mine was not faulty, it was old and the O ring had dried out. I suppose that you could argue that they should have fitted a better quality O ring making the item last longer. Items such as a hoze spray gun are just the tip of the iceberg. If you start looking into 'right to repair' you see the bigger problem with cars, phones, laptops, tractors, etc...

If the hozelock Pro version will not switch off the water flow with the trigger, check the piston in the handle by unscrewing the metal hose attachment. The piston is white with a triangle bit facing the hose attachment end. It has a hole in it which must catch the post of the valve control itself on replacement of this (see video). If the valve control jumps out of the hole then the piston in the handle will be loose and simply repairing the value control will not help with on off trigger function. To fix, remove the valve control, and the piston in the handle. Check the alignment of the piston hole and slide it back into position to align its hole with the valve control metal tube. Very long nosed pliers or similar are needed. Then slide the valve control into position through the piston hole. Now refit the rest of the gun. That should be it.

  • @bvqbvq

O rings are typically specified by their inside diameter and cross-sectional thickness, so you want one with a 5mm ID and a 2mm CS giving it a 9mm OD.

On the Ultra metal type of spray gun, the yellow ring around the spray nozzles unscrews from the grey part below it that you normally rotate to adjust the spray pattern. Mine was quite tight to get it free, but after it started moving, it unscrewed easily. When that comes off, you can lift off the stainless disc with all the holes in. Around each of the 5 individual jets is a small o-ring, thinner section than the one on the trigger. I measured them as 10mm I.D. by 0.87mm section. Most were broken up and in a bad state, but I guess they started off at 1mm section. I haven't replaced them yet as I've only just opened it up. The centre jet sits on a flat rubber washer, that looks OK but measures as 11mm inside by 15mm outside by 1.5mm thick. Hope this helps someone!

If the O ring looks the correct size then I would suspect that you might have a crack in the plastic somewhere. If that is the case then I doubt that you will be able to repair it :-(

@@umranhu I had the same experience as you Umranhu. Replaced the O-ring but no difference. The flat rounded end of the piece that the O-ring fits on must actuate another value inside the body. So I would say it is that which is leaking (not cracked) but of course that is inaccessible.

There's another white plastic piston inside the water pipe in the handle, the o ring on this might also need replacing. This second piston is engaged by the white piston in the trigger mechanism as per in Kevin's video above. Disassemble as in the video above then also unscrew the hose connection fitting at the bottom of the handle. Inside the water channel in the handle you'll see the second piston. Tap the bottom of the handle on a surface to get it out. Replace the O ring on the second piston and apply silicone grease. Push the second piston back firmly into place before completing the reassembly as per the video above.
