Simple fix - garden hose pipe tap connector repair

Every year at least one of Rogers garden hose pipe connectors will need some sort of repair, and this time it it is a leak at the tap (faucet) end of the hose pipe with water squirting out of the connector that joins the hose pipe to the outdoor tap.
Roger removes the connector to quickly assess what is causing the problem, and finds that the end of the hose pipe is split.
The quick fix is to cut back well beyond the split if the rubber hose to where the pipe firm and then carefully push the pipe back over the tub receiver within the connector. Roger demonstrates a slight twist as you push the hose pipe in to make sure that all the grippers that will hold the pipe in position are all in the correct position to ensure the hose pipe end is griped firmly in position.
The connector is then replaced on the tap / faucet connector and when the tap is turned back on to full pressure there is no leak - success!

Tip. Get a connector with the wider "grippers", and less of them, they seem to work way better and provide a better seal.

Excellent repair. With the drip coming from the top of the tap, can I suggest you can try to simply tighten the very top nut. It should only need a very small amount of right hand tighten. Do not over tighten otherwise ther tap will become difficult to turn. An adjustable spanner should be perfect for the job

Yes Roger but the 'grippers' do not form part of the water seal. The water seal is made between the inside of the hose and the spigot in the fitting. The function of the 'grippers' is to press the hose tightly onto the spigot and thereby make the seal.

Hi thanks for your comment, I am not quite sure whats happening with your hose, but it sounds like a new hose-pipe might be a better option - feel free to send me a photo or two to rogercrookes@lcsuk.net Thanks!
