Hoya's MiYOSMART Lenses for Nearsightedness Control In Children | 兒童近視控制鏡片

*Read THIS before filling your child's updated glasses prescription in traditional single vision glasses!*
Did you know that while traditional single vision glasses for correcting nearsightedness can help the child see clearly, the traditional lens design can contribute to the child's increase in nearsightedness progression?!
Thankfully, Hoya Vision Care's MiYOSMART lenses with D.I.M.S. Technology can simultaneously allow the nearsighted child to see clearly in all gazes AND is highly effective in slowing the increase of nearsightedness.
In this video, I will review and discuss the following:
- What is myopia/nearsightedness? What can cause it to increase and how can we counter it?
- What is Hoya's MiYOSMART len's design and how is it effective in myopia control?
- Who are good candidates for wearing the MiYOSMART lenses?

    Thank you for your good explanation for miyosmart. My kids now is wearing zeiss myovision pro. but he experiences big drop (-1.25) in 6 months. so now I'm considering the miyosmart. I know both lenses use peripheral defocus theory. and the miyosmart use simultaneous myoptic retinal defocus theory. Could you explain what's the better feature for the miyosmart than the myovision in practice? I'll really appreciate your explanation.

    It's almost like trying to build the better egg catcher knowing the forces of gravity. Unfortunately, recent study results show that Zeiss' Myovision Pro lenses have no significant effect in myopia control in children. MiYOSMART lenses are definitely worth switching to based on study results that are out so far. The study that showed the ineffectiveness of Zeiss' Myovision lenses is titled below: Effect of spectacle lenses designed to reduce relative peripheral hyperopia on myopia progression in Japanese children: a 2-year multicenter randomized controlled trial August 2018, Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology 62(5):1-7

    Hi Mommy Dear, I've been searching for the information about HOYA Miyo over days and this video helps the best! I wish I was in Toronto :( I live in Europe and the eye doctor recommended using glasses with these lenses for my daughter as well as dropping Atropin 0.01%. She's 10, her sight became -3.0/-3.75 from 2.5/2.75 in 6 months. I trust my doctor but wonder if you would've given a different prescription? One another quick question - do children need a special glasses frame for these lenses?

    I am glad to hear your daughter has access to these methods of myopia control! The only thing I might suggest is to inquire your optometrist regarding using Atropine 0.02% instead as that is the lowest concentration that is required for the effect of myopia control to be significant according to recent studies. There are specific size requirements that the glasses frame has to meet, but most kid frames fulfill the criteria. What I would recommend is to go with a more quality or sturdy frame since the MiYOSMART lenses are not as cheap to replace as your traditional single vision lenses.

    Research shows MiYOSMART lenses yield better myopia control over bifocal lenses. If you think about their design, you will understand why: MiYOSMART lenses create hyperopic defocus effect 360 degrees around the optical center whereas bifocal lenses only create hyperopic defocus effect in the lower portion of the lenses.

    Statistically, either the MiYOSMART (glasses) or MiSight (soft contact lenses) would give the highest level of nearsightedness control as a primary method. To choose between the two is to consider which is more suitable for your daughter’s use. If in doubt, please consult your optometrist.

    I took my 10 year old to the optometrist in August. He said the only way to slow down her myopia is to basically have her stop reading, and we don't want to do that. He wasn't concerned about her prescription because his sister is -11. My daughter's prescription we found out is -7.75 in her left eye and -5.75 in her right eye, and she has a stigmatism in both eyes. The good news is I thought her prescription was higher than that, but apparently I wasn't reading her last prescription correctly. However, she's worn glasses since she was five, and her vision does get worse every year He didn't even dilate her eyes, but I'm wondering if he should have. Thank you for the awesome videos. Can the child or parent see the physical honeycomb pattern in the lenses? I was just wondering how we can physically tell if Miyosmart lenses are prescribed. Also would Ortho K be better for a 11 year old girl? I’m also worried about the glasses sliding off the nose relocating the honeycomb area and making her eyes strained or changing the general looks of her over time. Just my uneducated guess 😅 I’ve been contemplating between the two and I have been just given some generic information about it by my optometrist. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

  • @mommydear

    @mommydear

    6 ай бұрын

    The MiYOSMART honeycomb pattern is not obvious but can be seen when you look for it. I find the easiest way to spot it is if you put the lenses parallel to the floor and tilt it back and forth under an overhead light source. The child usually adapts rather quickly to the honeycomb pattern such that they become unaware of it. This is great since it doesn't obstruct the child's view on a normal basis but maintains its myopia control effects. For the pros and cons of the different myopia control methods, you can check out my recent video titled "How to Control Myopia Progression in Children **UPDATED**" :)

    Most children have an intact accommodation system to focus from far to near so they should see clearly even through a prescription that is meant to correct their distance vision. You can definitely discuss with your child’s optometrist regarding starting low dose atropine as a means of myopia control for your daughter. I talk about it in my recent video: Low Dose Atropine for Slowing Nearsightedness Progression in Children kzread.info/dash/bejne/ap97o5WBd9jRfsY.html When your child is older (~8 years old) you can consider using multi-focal soft contact lenses as a way to correct and control myopia for your daughter. The reason for the wait is because we do need your daughter to be old enough to safely insert and remove the contacts herself. You can learn more about this option in the link below: www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/multifocal-contact-lenses-slow-myopia-progression-children Hope this helps and all the best! ❤️
