Hoya Propagation Struggles - Roots, Rot and Mold

Propagating hoya cuttings has its risks but don't worry, Christine is here to share with you her experiences and tips so you can grow healthy hoyas from just a cutting. She will discuss roots, rot and mold and how she mitigated problems she has encountered.
This is the hydrogen peroxide I use, I was able to pick it up locally from a hydroponics store.

    Thanks a lot, Christine for this preview on Hoya problems. I would love a more detailed and thorough video on what to do for each problem though.

    I don’t put my cuttings in bags. I put them in plastic cups with leca with reservoirs at the bottom and mist often, also mist with super thrive or VF 11. I have some in an IKEA greenhouse cabinet to speed up the process.

    oh no! I am sorry. Where did you get them from? cuttings can be rough through the mail. I had a shippment that got lost so a few of them have past but I have a few that are still hanging on. Sucks getting plants and they die! =*(

    @@BotanicalWoman it was a gift from a friend, who kindly send them over to me as a gift, I have the unboxing video on my channel. I did my best to save them, but I think we couldn't have chosen a worst time for mailing plants...

    I used your bag propagation method, and now that I've got roots growing, I'm not sure how to transfer to soil. Can't find your video on it. Did see in the "7 tips" video to use a deep, narrow pot to support it. But when roots are growing all along the vine, which ones do you put in soil? Are some always going to stick out? I'm confused! Also, you talk about soaking in a water/hydrogen peroxide bath to kill mold, but don't mention what the ratio is?

    there is a link in the description for the hydrogen peroxide ratio. for smaller hoyas, where the internodes are closer together, I normally would leave it 6 nodes long and just swirl it so it fits into the pot and lay a bit a soil on top, this will help promote a stronger plant with multiple points rooting. If it is a larger hoya, i usually take one node cuttings if there is a leaf on each node. hope this helps

    Can you propagate from a plant that has root rot?

  • @BotanicalWoman

    @BotanicalWoman

    yes, as long as the node and stem is still in good shape, just cut off all the rotted roots and start over
