Christine's indoor plant care, propagation, and other assorted houseplant adventures. She loves hoyas in particular, and her plant wall, but she loves all kinds of plants.
Can you reuse moss or perlite after failed/ rotted propagations have been in it?? Is there a way to sterilize it??

Try taking it out of the terra-cotta pot. Those pots tend to keep the soil on the dryer side.

Don't use fork on the roots.. Just water, divide the plant, trim root to 1-1/2inch. No need so much hydroton. Once a week change water; continue to add water as it get little until the top of roots.

Can you use any moss? Can I just pick moss from nature or does it need to be prepared specifically in order to minimalise bacterial infection/parasites?

I use moss most of the time but I let my moss be on the dryer side. I try not to let it sit in water like you would with a potted plant.

the peat, or really any substrate by the testing ive done over about 6 years so far, comes off the roots and they get squeaky clean white using a very quick supervised soak in peroxide and then meticulously scrubbing every single individual root with a soft bristled toothbrush that has the rubber side pieces that are supposed to help scrub your gums as you brush

It might also depend on the thickness of the wick. The default wicks that come with the cheapest pots are definitely too thick for many plants. I've seen people successfully using very thin synthetic wicks (which can be DIY-made from old thin nylon socks) with begonias. To prevent roots from coming out, people put some synthetic fluffy or spongy stuff at the bottom of the pot.

the leaves will always be more yellow if not in soil , the aquarium provides everything the plant needs but ONE thing .......... IRON , and you cant add iron because the fish will hate it , its a small price to pay having lighter green leaves ..........

Nice video explaining it all! I only have one Hoya at this point (want to get more) and I have had it a couple of years. It seems like even though many tout the joys of Leca, is that really easier than soil? It just seems like a lot of work. My Hoya has been repotted one time and loves the soil and the key for me has been simply not overwatering it. Matter of fact out of all my houseplants overwatering would be the biggest killer besides if you miss an insect or say a spider mite attack as once they get going you may easily lose that plant if you don't catch it to treat it early.

I placed my micans cuttings in soil in the port in which i wanted them to grow, watered and let the water run out, then placed the pot in a zip bag for a good number of weeks, maybe a month. Opened it occasionaly, when remembered, for airation. All the cuttings took.
