Hoya obovata Blooms! Hoya Spotlight

Hello friends!
Today I wanted to talk a bit about my variegated Hoya obovata. This plant bloomed after being less than a year with me so I thought to share the flowers with you too!
I talk a bit about care and origins of this hoya, how I grow it. It is not witchcraft, I swear. There is also a tad bit about pricing and availability.
I hope you enjoy this video and I will see you very soon with another hoya in bloom!

    Beautiful ! Thanks for sharing the bloom experience as well as your usually detailed discussion of the hoya. I have two that I got last Fall and Winter, one has thinner leaves. The one with thinner leaves liked being moved closer to a south facing window and doubled in size. The more succulent one which arrived with possible cold damage is hanging out, taking its own sweet time. They get supplemental grow light every day and orchid fertilizer every few weeks. Hoping they will bloom for me next summer. I, never understood why you would stress out a hoya to make it bloom or to get bright colors. They are peaceful living beings that rely on us. That is why I am striving to create a home for them in which they may thrive. Watching all the baby leaves on hoyas is so reewarding. Blooms are a bonus.

  • @BasiePlants

    @BasiePlants

    I think using the word stress is a very bad idea. Just like "underwater this or underwater that". People can interpret it in different ways leading to a very different outcome. So, I prefer to say 'temperature change will make it bloom' or something similar.

    I have the regular obovata, for over 2 years now. I love it. It’s a slow grower for me and I think it’s Bc I don’t water it enough because I followed the myth that I shouldn’t water them so much, but I’ve been changing my routine with my Hoya collection they’re even staring to bloom now. Thanks Miro! Your videos are the most informative about Hoya IMO!

    I dont know who came up with not watering them, but i have experienced quite the opposite with all of my Hoya. They dont like to be soaking wet, but i water them once a week to 10 days as I am in Florida and I do keep my plants outside. Many of my hoya I got from others, and were growing like crazy within a month of me getting them. I agree with you. Please water the Hoya! Lol

    I found my obovata ( just the regular green one) at a local nursery about 8 months ago and it quickly became one of my favorite houseplants! It only had 3 leaves when I got it, but they were pretty large leaves already AND had a really good root system. Because it was already well rooted, it hasn't stopped growing and the leaves got even bigger and splashier! To be a fairly common hoya, it really is a unique looking plant with its round leaves and darker green color. It also has plenty of little root nubbins (lol, that's what I call them) along the tendril, so I'm sure when I decide to propagate it it should root up easily!
