I love Hoyas. Most for their foliage and some for their amazing blooms and fragrance. Some Hoya have all 3!
Today we chat about Hoya clemensiorum, a Hoya who's name I keep mispronouncing but oh well. Get a close up look at leaves of both the long-leaf and short-leaf varieties of this beautiful plant, get some history and care tips and find out the one thing I was really bummed about while growing this out...

The hoya clemensiorum I got from Steve's Leaves is awesome. They said it grows "surprisingly fast" in their greenhouse - this has been my experience as well in my cabinet with 70 degrees and 75 percent humidity. Crazy how quick a leaf can get from tiny to full prehistoric, this plant has really thrived for me! My favorite and fastest growing hoya. I'm not affiliated with Steve's Leaves or anything.

That crimson clemensiorum is beyond belief! It's almost worth moving to a tropical clime for the humidity required - but that's another lifetime. Thanks for this. They are spectacular.💐

Your clemensiorums are beautiful! A friend of mine gave me an unrooted cutting last April and since put out new leaves. I love, love the pre-historic looking leaves. The red is also on my wishlist.

Hello thanks 4 the back. Ground on this hoya. I have one and a tagamus . Do I need to keep them both on a heating pad? They do get high humidity. The tagamus leaf has yellowed, to much water. Share how you keep your daily. 😃💕

Hi! I keep mine in a greenhouse so they get about 80% daily humidity, temps in the winter get to 55 at night and 80 during the day, summer is 60 at night and 90 during the day. I was overwatering too but now I let them dry between watering. Not bone dry but dry. Fertilize very very lightly but often

I just got a cutting and it's on day three. The leaves are no longer rigid and are drooping! I have it in a greenhouse cabinet with high humidity and temperature. Did yours do this at all or did it stay rigid? I love this Hoya and don't want to lose the leaves! If anyone has any feedback please let me know! Thanks

Hi there! You know I bought a few and some of them Definitely experienced what you were going through. They were drooping. Some of my new propagations are doing the same thing as I’m propagating some of my Hoyas now. I haven’t quite figured out what the issues on those are but I will tell you that don’t keep the soil overly wet. And then make sure the misting is very constant. Just have a super fine mist as many times in a day as you can think of. But again don’t let the soil get too wet. I’m also trying this in straight RO water to see if it’ll route that way as well. how long is your cutting? I would suggest, if it’s a very long and generous, cutting, to cut it up in a few pieces, keeping a node on each piece and trying different methods of propagating it. Are you using soil, leca, perlite, moss or what method?

@@FancyPlants thanks so much for the response! It does have several nodes but it has now been a week and I'm seeing the ones above the soil growing roots. I actually had a few people tell me to put a bag over it and leave it until the roots grow in since the cutting had no roots for air. The mix is about 45% coconut husks, 25% perlite, 20% coco coir, and 10% potting mix. I can feel the leaves becoming hard again, or thicker that is lol. They were paper thin before the bag went on it.

What is the ideal medium to grow this beautiful Hoya. I have two of them and I want them to thrive

I have it in a mix of one to one ration each of peat moss, vermiculate, perlite wit organic fertilizer mixed it and it likes it. It’s in a pretty humid greenhouse and it stays pretty warm so there’s are also pretty crucial factors. But once it finds the spot it likes it’s going to really be 😃

@@FancyPlants thank you so much for your answer. is it consider a terrestrial plant or the ones that grows in tress epiphytic plants?

  • @FancyPlants

@@mariavelez2137 Well technically it’s both. Most hoyas are epiphytic but appreciate growing in a potting media since we don’t all have their condition they love in nature.

@@FancyPlants wow I love you answer my questions so fast I hope my Two plants will thrive and won’t die. I live in Pennsylvania and need to keep all my Hoyas inside so probably I will have to increase the humidity for them although I have humidifier and fans that I run 24/7 Probably will put heating pads and put them in a big grow tent with all the equipment mention above.

  • @FancyPlants

@@mariavelez2137 Sounds like a good set up. I would strive for humidity between 60 and 80% and that’s pretty ideal.
