HOYA CHAT | Hoya in Semi hydroponics & Terestrial Hoyas | ft. Hoya nicholsoniae and Hoya Imperialis

Hello once again! I am sorry for missing my last week's video. This time I decided to finally plant my hoya cutting - Hoya nicholsoniae in semi-hydro. This is something I've been trying out and it's been working out nicely so far. The second part of this video is a bit of a rescue. It's my Hoya imperialis cv. Pink Big Flower. I got this hoya a while ago, but it hasn't been doing great due to several reason. Everything is explained in the video, so I hope you will enjoy watching it.

    😂 13 viewers in this video…. Look at you now! I have been binge watching your videos and learning a lot about Hoyas. Which I have always loved but thought would not grow in my home. I am learning that they are great companions for my 250+ orchid collection. Of course, like you I grow the majority of my plants in a single room so have to be careful not to get on the Hoya train in first class😂❤🌸

    Hey there! Just came across this video again, and I thought I'd mention that I've been running an experiment with Hoya imperialis. I've had one growing in my regular mix and one in semi-hydro, and although they are both growing well (yes, even the semi-hydro one!), the semi-hydro has put out a truly massive root system. It's in a 2,5 liter transparant pot and it has roots all the way down to the water basin! So if you're still struggling or want to try something different, you could always try a cutting in semi-hydro.

    That is very interesting to hear! I would never guess it'd work well in SH, mainly because there is a lot of air there and it's a terrestrial hoya. But I think the moisture helps a lot. I put mine on a heat mat and I am getting a new leaf. I think mine is mostly a bad clone. I will give it a month on a heat mat, and if that doens't work, your set up will be my next experiment 😂

    @@BasiePlants Don't despair! In my experience it takes a while for H. imperialis to adjust and start growing, but when it goes it goes! What also works for me is giving it as much light as possible. Mine (the semi-hydro one) is sitting in the windowsill of a S-W facing window with full sun from 3pm-8pm. One remark is that I have this one going for about 3 months now, so no real long-term experience, but it's doing really really well up to now. Good luck and thanks for the video's! I really like your new Hoya series. :)

    @@pieter1108 Thank you! I am glad there are people who are enjoying it. I received my H. imperialis in October/ early November 2019. It's been very close to my 36W LED light. H. lauterbachii is growing seemingly well under that light. The light stays on for 12-14 hours a day. The temperature is also always over 22 degrees Celsius, but all I got since then were 2 or 3 pathetic leaves :D I won't give up on mine yet, but I will definitely try another imperialis clone if I can get one.

    I just purchased a small cutting of imperialis, which I'm attempting to root in coco coir and pearlite using a prop box and a heat mat. I would live to know how your imperialis is doing now that it is planted in a more terrestrial mix. I will be doing the same with my plant if it roots ok. Thanks....

    I have a bella that is doing fantastic planted in soil. It has a few blooms and several peduncles. It was planted in my outdoors greenhouse for the summer, but now I've brought them inside for the winter. I would love to take a cut or two and start them in leca, just as an experiment, and to get the plant to grow bushier, but truthfully, I don't have the heart to snip off a cutting or two right now! I guess maybe come spring I'll try, as I don't think the beginning of fall and then winter is conducive to starting new plants. What are your findings and thoughts? Have you propagated them in the winter etc?

  • @BasiePlants

    @BasiePlants

    3 жыл бұрын

    I am propagating some now! :) It all depends really on the conditions in your home. If it's warm inside and there is enough light, you can propagate anytime you want, really. I can confirm it does well both in potting mix and in leca. It is a fun experiment to try, for sure!
