#HowardStern #SternShow #ArtieLange
After the whole Artie vs The Hack Pack Saga. Artie talked about how the show and the desire for airtime can turn people into their worst versions of themselves and basically predicted what an asshole Jason Kaplin would turn into. Eh that’s one critique of Howard I disagree with. Enabling would mean assisting the addict with their habit. By giving them money or drugs or a place to stay while they’re using etc. Nobody forced Artie to use drugs and then tell the tales on the air. Nobody forced him to be open about his struggles. Sure maybe it could have been insisted since Howard loved talking about personal problems on air but overall nobody enabled him or encouraged him to do anything but get help and get better.

He obviously had just shot up, or sniffed his H since he claims he never shot, which i find hard to believe. But either way, thats clearly what his " losing time, and feeling out of it on the escalator was all about. He had just gotten high, and i found it really hard to listen to everyone joking about it. Either a room full of morons, or a room full of people thinking hes making us money lets laugh and pretend hes not high as a kite. Howard couldnt have been that stupid!!! Its very easy to say, and have people believe just because it takes it to another level of humility if you admit to shooting it. But as every H addict knows eventually sniffing it isnt enough and eventually you shoot. So I find him hard to believe that he didnt get to shooting, but who knows. But youre thoughts on how long he was on H, or opiates I believe is way off. You can pretty much clearly know if hes on coke or H by his weight. All his funniest imo years were Heroin. When he was gettingg close to 300 pounds and falling askleep at work. Those were heroin years. Tow3ards the end, and I only think it was the last year he was on the show, is when i believe he got back into. You have to care about a person to enable them. And in hindsight, none of em ever truly cared about Artie IMO. They just all knew he was great material for the show. What they are doing here is towing the "company" line with him. Artie didnt care if some backroom nobody like Jason or Sal brought up his addiction. He would've cared if any of the top guys did though which is why the Gary fights were always the most real. Once Gary started going into Artie's addictions, things turned real sour with their relationship. But Artie would've either fell in a much bigger depression or left the show altogether if it was someone whose opinion he cared about. And if you get rid of Artie at the height of his addiction, the show loses as many viewers in 2007 or 2008 as they did when he finally left at the end of 09. That would've looked a lot worse for Stern a year or two into his Sirius run

Yeah Im a huge fan of the Artie era, only time I listened to the show, cause i loved Artie. Never heard or saw this either. Its really ridiculous how nieve all of them acted. Artie even used the term nodded out to describe what happened on the escalator or whatever. He was 100% using Heroin or whatever opiate he was on. As a former addict, I can almost guarantee you he had just shot up, or snorted, since he "claims" he never shot it. He was feeling the rush on the escalator which was why he almost passed out, no other option or story! For everyone to joke about it and blame it on food or diabetes was just honestly cringe to listen to, especially knowing the outcome in the end. if they truly cared about him, they wouldnt have made it into a bit, but made him get help or leave the show.

@@joeymims5852 They were worse than naive. Howard knew but didn't want to admit it to anyone because he knew Artie was so great on the show, and he got a lot of material out of it. I mean, I'm sure there was a level of affection there too, but admitting it would mean he was enabling and open him up to lawsuits (in his own messed up mind that became obsessed with the thought of people suing him) but listening back is cringy because Fred and Howard will out-right attack Robin for thinking something is off with him like... they really didn't GAF. That first story of Artie being late during a break and it’s because he was light headed and almost passed out? That is pure BS. When Artie (like most people) tell the truth they are a lot more to the point. When you’re lying you add in so many little extra details that really aren’t relevant to the story. Also… The reason why Artie had to go get his own lunch is because he can smoke on the way.
