How We Prepared A GCN Roadie For The Hardest Mountain Bike Race In The World
Спорт
When we stole Hank from @gcn to take part in the Megavalanche with Blake, we knew that he had the fitness to make it to the end of the gruelling course, but his MTB skills definitely needed some work. The guys took a trip to @BikeParkWalesOfficial so Blake could teach Hank some mountain bike skills like line choice, how to ride technical drop-offs, and the best way to ride rock gardens!

Body position, I was so used to a saddle defining where I was on the bike.

Actually using my suspension. I would get freaked out by just a small downed tree in the trail.

I spend 60% running vs 40% biking. Within biking I am ~45% on the road, 35% MTB, and 20% gravel. Originally as a runner/roadie, can Doddy lead a "how to use your dropper" tutorial?

I rode my last proper (26" wheel) mountain bike on road so I used schwalbe silento, but wanted to ask I have looked at the new category of mountain bike styles and wondered can a trial bike be an all rounder? Of course gearing don't matter as in future if I build one I can pick what I want
To call hank a roadie is a bit incorrect. He jumps better than I do. He’s an accomplished mountain biker now.

I’d love to see Hank do an XC race. Apply his fitness, new MTB skills, and personality, and let the entertainment begin. 🤙

100% agree!
I'm not even a roadie, mtb through and through but I'll watch anything on gcn and gmbn with hank in it, such an entertaining presenter!
Hank won't want to get back on a road bike after the absolute blast he is having on the mountain bike. Blake is the man for giving him the confidence needed to take on the obstacles. Great content!
I love this roadie does mountainbiking series!! So enjoyable to watch Blake mentor Hank with these craxy challenges :D
It's amazing how much and how quickly Hank progressed compared to the last video here.

I think most of us would progress the same if under the tutelage of Blake lol.
So, chronologically, this would be GMBN's second attempt on James' life.
I'm glad they have decided to wear color-coded helmets and bikes, otherwise, I would struggle to distinguish Hank from Blake ;D

Literally my firsth thought was, Hey we got Blake and Blake again in a video :D
❤Hank and Blake together!!
Love this progression for both GMBN and GCN! Blake doing the weekly road race and Hank doing epic MTB... keep it up! Hopefully we can see other riders join the fun!!
Hank is a natural, his progression is amazing.
Twins are back at it! Great video. It's good to see the progression Hank is achieving and I love the way Blake points out the best and most important things. Well done!
Watching Rich with Hank, the Mega video and this one, Hank has really stepped up his skills and is definitely a worthy rider. With Rich and Blake on his coaching side, he couldn't fail.
That was great. I am both a MTB and roadie and enjoy both immensely. This was great to watch and listen to your tuition to Hank of whom took all on board and executed. I wish I had a teacher like you.
Great to see more of the Hankavalanche project! ❤
oh man, that genuine happy feeling when you see your buddy clear challenging trails, awesome work hank and blake, yeeew 🎉🎉
Ha! I knew he couldn't go to such an event without some prep! Well done revealing this, awesome to watch, awesome to learn, to live through his experiences. Thanks for the video
Love seeing hank on channel. Just drop the roadies man. ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
Well done guys that was really good, you always give great tips and advice.
Great video. More videos like this! 🎉
Crazy how far he's come! Can't be compared even! Will ya both do Enduro Hardtail stuff next? hmm
Enjoyed this! Would be good to see more "trail check" videos on popular trails in the UK (bpw, fod etc ). A pro talking a novice through lines and techniques.
Fantastic work, Hank! And, Blake is a top-notch instructor. You two look a bit like twins in this video...
Back in 1986 I crossed over/simply added XC mountain biking/racing to my list of races as roadie. I've been racing MTB and Road bikes ever since.
Always brighten up my day ❤
Love these cross overs between channels
Kudo's Hank, great effort and doing it clipped in.
Nice guys!
All i want now is to hear Blake properly say Megavalanche :D
Freaking good tips Blake.... go fast is the trick on a rock garden i didnt 'accidentally' did that on a local trail & i just find it better than slower but just not sure why. Hank ain't beginner to me.... he ride well!
Love that rock garden, not changed much from when it was the gethin dragon dh track 🤙
Last time at BPW I took on the red tech lines....have since been to Austria and then Switzerland. I rode the X line and the mega descent into zermatt. These bpw tech blacks look easy! Also probably need to upgrade from my hardtail to make it all easier!
Hank getting it immediately gives blake proud dad moment 👏🏼🔥
Blake is an amazing teacher!
this trail looks amazing
Have you guys done a colab on how to improve road riding? Would love to see the “flip” version and gain some tips for the inevitable rides we do.
Blake seems a great coach!
Need more of Hank and Blake together.
Love guest visits with the GCN adrenaline junkie… Hank the Tank!
Who ever thought people who ride road can also ride MTB, must be a worlds first! 😏 Well done Hank, smashed it! 💪🏻
10:30 foreshadowing!
From now on I will listen to Hank's mtb advice.
Well done Hank! And Blake. But you seemed unaware of the riders you were holding up on the trail in the rock garden section.....
Try the transvesubiene in Nice. A real man's race. That megavalanche doesn't require that's much skill. It's more the endurance.
They look like brothers 😅 great content as always
Best duo
gcn and gmbn struck gold with hank and blake duo
Socal is mostly rock gardens. But we also have burritos and sunshine. Pick your battles.
Let's GO HANK!!! 😎💯👍
For a minute I thought it was two Blakes at the start! :)
What kind of Smith googles have you? Shift MAG XL?
I love gmbn

I'd say, steal Hank from GCN more often. Also, I'm looking forward to his trials session with mr. Ashton.
Is it just me or does Hank and Blake look like they could be brothers?
You actually look like brothers in this video 😂
Hey! Why didn’t I realize that Hank and Blake are both looking the same here in their outfit! Like they’re identical twins! Always love watching their beautiful tandem on both @gmbn and @gcn more videos of them together please! Especially the bikepacking trip! 🚵♂️🔥💙💯
On the rock garden I was thinking what line?
Twins! 🤣🤣
well done hank, just like cornering at high speed on a road bike, feel the bike and let it do it's job
I wish I had a Blake or Hank to ride with
Put hank in the Shed..❤
Hank is flying now in his enduro bike! Has he been training trails hard?
its clear that hank is a secret mountain biker, could we maybe see some other GCN roadies?
Every time Blake refers to Hank as James it takes me a second or two to figure out who he's talking about. 😂 It's Hank for Christ's sake 😊
He should use platform pedals, he's pulling the bike up with arms and legs instead of using the bunny hop.

Great observation coach!
its like seeing double blake 😅✌️✌️✌️
Rather than your bike, I think that where you ride will tell whether you're a roadie or an MTBer. It doesn't matter if you can jump or not.
Rock garden with hardtail bike 💀
Is Hank morphing into Blake? There's a bit of a "Twins" vibe happening here.
Haha our secret plan to steal Hank away from gcn is going great😜
weird-ish jumping form but otherwise he shreds!
Past Blake training past Hank for a future event that has already happened. 😵💫
Hank cannot be a roadie you can't see his bones :D
i thought your twins in your attire…GOD bless
Smashes down Dai Hard and the Zut Alors Rock garden. “You’re beginner/intermediate now”. High standards!!!
Can we please use something else than the electronic dubstep hype music?
Did anyone else have trouble telling the difference between Hank and Blake at the beginning of the video? They looked like the double take brothers… Hank is areal mountain biker now.
Why isn't James wearing a full face lid if he isn't confident with this trail? Seems a bit stupid to me :/
You should have trained him with a hardtail. 💪
The gcn boys never seem to need much help to be sufficient on the trails.
great video, but the music sucks :D
Please please someone teach him to slow down his arm movement and he definitely needs to relax....lol
Hank is a dude
you should def take away his clip pedals, he's hopping all wrong because of them
They look like twins.
