i would add screen to the inside to keep nosey bird from sticking their head in the fan, LOL

I would put mesh over the fan blades so no chickens can get too close and end up with no heads.

A little note from my experience. I recommend placing a barrier on the inside of fans, lest you find fresh chicken parts that...uhm..."hit the fan". 🐓🐔

Great job! I love how much you care about the comfort and safety of the chickens. Smart to get that licensed electrician to wire everything. Too many people try to do it themselves, with tragic results. 9:50 Bing Bing came in to inspect the work. He approves. I would definitely put wire mesh on the fans to prevent chicken tragedy. Already looking forward to your next video.

Are you going to add more wire fence to the back of the fans so the chickens don't get caught in it when it's turned on, since its close to the stand. Just an idea. It would be a mess to clean up if a chicken gets killed by the fan. It would be a safety thing if people come visit you. For them not to put their hand in the fan. Especially little kids.

That’s a beautiful chicken coop. Have you thought about critters digging under the walls to get in? I hear folks lay chicken wire down on the ground to stop critters from digging. Best of luck.

I noticed in the eves daylight. If you have snakes { they are everywhere[} you might want to plug them. They do love eggs. Just a thought. I love what you guys are doing ! BLESSINGS !!!

@@skoalmen143 Actually, prior to hurricanes, I have seen snakes go up hot stucco to get to house roofs. They instinctively know to get to higher ground. Also, yearly I find one or 2 rat snakes in my egg boxes. They will move when it cools at night.

Be sure and run your wiring in metal conduit. That will protect your wiring for the long haul from possible rodent damage later. Every barn and coop is a rodent draw. Even a clean one. It is always better safe than sorry in a chicken barn or regular barn. Also adding GFCI outlets or breakers is very important for any outbuilding or outside outlets.

I'm in Interlachen, outside Palatka, and am about to install an exhaust fan in my coop (converted shed). Your chickens are mighty lucky, sir ! Thank you for the video. I am not mountin mine at the highest point either, as some You tubers said they had & wish they hadn't....I don't know who to believe, I guess as long as the air is tolerable for my babies that's all that matters. Hey Hollis love watching u an. Wife building your homestead been watching u for long time wish I could. Build the stuff u do I'm 67 yrs old an from Tennessee keep doing it God bless u an family I love fishing to lol

Your inspiration is wonderful. We raised chickens in an open case. The coop was 4 x 8 and we housed 9 chickens. The birds laid well for about a year. We then put them in a pot for stew. With nine hens, (no roosters), we got more eggs than we could use. We gave eggs away ad made many friends with the eggs. Thank you for sharing. Be blessed!

Just a tidbit: all the air pockets (the corrugated humps where sheet metal meets metal supports) will allow snakes and field rats/mice to enter coop and steal eggs/hurt chickens (snakes). Just this Tuesday we had an Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake enter. Scared the crap out of me when I heard him rattle! I got my husband to put expanding foam for n each opening, anywhere we saw daylight.

Once again I enjoyed your videos quite informative I love what you're doing I know the area that y'all are in around Hawthorne or Orange Lake 500 up in that area before I'm originally from Tampa Florida now living in Brooksville my son and I are looking for land not near as much as y'all have because at my age I don't need a lot seeing that I am pushing 70 but may God bless you and and your wife and keep your healthy and safe

P.S. Do the backs of the fans have any covering over them to keep the chickens from getting caught up in them?

Exactly what I saw when I looked at it. Chicken is going to perch on the top of that motor and stick its head in that fan when it starts.

That's a smart ideal with the fans I live in Ariz. My ladys have a swamp cooler but they seem to only last 1 summer if you're lucky maybe two

We were wondering, will you put a cage or grate over the fans on the inside of your roosting room? Chickens are so curious and we were concerned they might get too close to the spinning fan.

Is the fan covered with some sort of caging just in case a chicken flies up there, other wise you may have a chicken shredded through the fan, a horrid thought indeed....? I'm sure you have thought of that though? Lovely chicken coop. Thanks for sharing your video's.

I've been watching you for sometime now. Even when you began this chicken coup. I have a question. Will you keep the door between the roosting room and where the nesting boxes are during the day? The chickens will need to lay all day long. I have to say I love the coup!

Hey have you guys thought about investing in solar panels, especially on all of you buildings?

Will you spray any spray foam along the top and sides to cover those holes? I had snakes coming into my coop.

Hollis. Might I recommend you engineering a hardware cloth cover to the interior face of the fans as well. young birds can and may try to fly through the fans to get outside. Trust me. From personnel experience, it CAN and HAS happened.

Does one fan... do intake and the other exhaust? Are both exhaust so intake comes from lover vents on the north side of the building? Where does the fans pull from? Just asking because we had a pool equipment room with same needs.

I thought drafts were bad for chickens. Does this work because it’s just pulls hot air out instead of blowing air in? Im new at this and a bit confused. I’m in the South (SC) as well and am concerned about my girls in the coop this summer. They won’t be ready to go in the coop until probably late July. July and August are our hottest months. Do you use the attic fan with thermostat instead of a regular window fan because of the auto feature with the thermostat? HELP?

You are correct. The attic fan draws out air. It is an exhaust not a forced draft. It created a fresh air change. Yes, the thermostat is key. No need to run them continuously.

Have you used "Heat Lamps" in the coop Sir? Been reading that the "Girls" can and will catch on FIRE if they fly up and bump heat lamps. Then burn the Coop down. What is your advice and experience Good Man?

I never used them and eventually removed it. The temperatures don’t get low enough and stay low long enough in Florida to kill the chickens. My lamps were secured as not to fall down even if bumped. Still could possibly be a fire hazard. So after having chickens for a few years now, don’t think the heat lamps are needed in the coop since the chickens are all feathered out anyway by the time I move them to the coop

You can keep one chicken per sq ft. We don’t pack that many in our coop. We currently keep 35 hens and 2 roosters
