In 2014 I took possession of a touring motor glider (Phoenix U-15) with the Rotax 912 ULS. I had been a long time glider pilot and was accustomed to trailering them to distant soaring venues as the seasons made them advantageous. Upon taking delivery and after the transition training my glider friends asked what kind of trailer I would keep it in. Like you, I had come to the obvious conclusion that I "didn't need no stinkin' trailer". The Phoenix had an engine that could take us to the desired locations at 120 Kt, and there were auto rental options all over the country (USA) with direct service to the general aviation airports I most often frequent. Since then we've been up and down the entire east coast of USA from Maine to Florida several times, and had one epic journey from Atlanta, GA to Northern California, with return across a more northerly route to the east coast near NY City. My only disappointment being that I can't fit my road bicycle into the plane without near total disassembly ... not worth the bother... but none the less have been able to rent good bikes at some destinations. In worst case scenario that you need to retrieve your plane, should it become disabled far from spare parts and repair facility, it can be fairly easily secured into largish rental truck. The trick being to have a couple of solid planks or metal ramps, strong rope, and a hand crank winch to load the fuselage into the truck and straps and padded moving blankets to secure the load. Have fun! I certainly have. Renting a camper at select destinations is a good idea.

Andrew really inspired by your last vid. Keep them coming! I remember working on test flights and it was brutal. Thankfully I get to train pilots and enjoy small planes. I’ve flown 747s and fly A380! Looking forward to you conquering the skies with your new bird. Ignore the keyboard warriors! They will always exist!

I always had this dream of buying a Sinus motorglider. All Pipistrel aircraft are amazing but the Sinus is the one I dream of. Flying all day long for pennies while that propeller is feathered. Congratulations from Santiago, Chile.

Back in the mid 80's I used to transport ultra-lights around in a enclosed trailer. Biggest problem we had was cross winds lifting the trailer. It never took very high winds to cause problems. Something to consider if you go down that route.

Seeing you are making a custom trailer, surely you can make the shape fit the glider - put the wings inside, and make the sidewalls lean, so it's truncated triangular in shape to prevent the wind lifting the trailer?

Great stuff Andrew. I am surprised this can be VH registered instead of RAA..... having the VH rego opens it up to a few more places you can fly than RAA. Anyways, I love my flying videos... if I'm not watching 4X4 youtubers it's pilots flying in all sorts of aircraft (and paramotors and paragliders...). Will be good to see a bit more local aussie content. :)

What a cute couple you are! Very exciting video and saga of your Sinus. Subscribed and cannot wait to see your flying adventures. Sorry to hear about the trailering difficulties, but they are understandable. If this were a Sinus FLEX, perhaps you could store the wings in a trailer in segments. Pipistrel makes a trailer for these beasts I believe. Also, I believe your prop is not "variable pitch," but of course it is featherable. You cannot change the prop pitch in powered flight. Am I right? Best wishes.

Hi Andrew nice aircraft. I think you are going to struggle to get CASA to register that bird if it doesn't have a recognised Type Certificate. That can be a CASA TC or CASA recognised EASA or FAA TC. If that isnt the case you will have to go through hoops to show it conforms with Airworthiness requirements under Part 21 and Part 23. This is to establish a Technical Certification Basis (TCB). So without a TC, you have your work cut out to achieve registration. Good luck.

Jean may I clarify your misguided comments with how light aircraft work and are registered in the real world with some points. You state in your dire tribe that the aircraft will need certification. It is a certified aircraft if you bother to check. You mention all sorts of vague parameters needing to be met without understanding simple facts which are the aircraft is a certified aircraft, has a certified engine (turbo Rotax as used in many high powered aircraft) and Europe approves them there! Maybe a bit of logic should be used when commenting on such important aviation projects such as owning and flying an Aircraft. Please think before you make nonsensical comments in the future. And I am a pilot myself I fly for a major airline and enjoy light planes as a hobby.
