Hair washing and hair cuts are the hardest thing for my autistic son. He’s almost 3 and hates nothing more than water on his head or the sound of hair cutting/paper ripping. We’ve found a hairstylist who specifically cuts hair for autistic children. It’s been a blessing!

@@detective8205 unfortunately, no. He doesn’t like anything touching his head like hats, headphones, water, etc. We tried headphones because he loves music so much and responds to it so well but it was the actual muffs on his ears and the band across his head that he just can’t tolerate right now.

@@minxbella9342 as someone who’s autistic myself, earbuds definitely help better, I love the look of headphones and their shape but when it comes to sensory stuff the buds are the way to go. The sound sounds clearer, your ears don’t get pushed flat to your head, nothing on the top of your head, no worries abt sound leaking out, being able to both block out noise and still hear it if I keyed in also really helps. Earbuds just feel like they fit, and headphones feel like a nuisance, especially for sensory issues.

@@BB-TheCandleFairy I agree.. I just recently knew about the earbuds because of Cooper mom channel.. She have a deaf child with hearing aid implant and she says that the earbuds definitely help a lot for her to still listen to her child and respond to him but at the same time it helps reduce the noise so it won't be too much for her

I remember as a teen I had to take my 4yo sister with extremely hyperactive ADHD (and probably ASD as well, but never diagnosed cause back then you had to pick one or the other) to get a haircut. I don't remember if she didn't want to or she was just bouncing off the walls, but she refused to get it. In the end what got her to get the haircut was me telling her "After you're done, we're gonna go buy a BIIIG bag of candy and you don't have to share anything with your brother". She sat perfectly 😂 I got her a big bag of candy and the first thing she did when she saw her brother was run at him, bodyslam him into the ground and yell "I GOT CANDY DO YOU WANT SOME?" I was pretty proud of that one 😁

The worst part of hair related sensory input for me, being autistic myself is the hair dryer and washing my hair. I hate how loud the hair dryer is as it dries around my ears, and I usually just let my hair dry out naturally to avoid it all together. I don't like washing my hair because of how heavy your hair can feel after and the actual water being dumped overly hair so close to my ears. My hair is really short now for that reason.

Hey I noticed you had comments off on your video about your daughters dyspraxia, I wanted to let you know I did dance for years and it helped me so much with my dyspraxia. I went to a dance school that did most common types of dance and they were so patient and would even do one on ones when I struggled with a movement or would give me an easier alternative for me in harder routines. If it wasn’t for my adhd (undiagnosed and unmedicated st the time) and issues with my joints I’d still do dance but honestly it’s the reason why I can do a lot more today and it massively improved my dyspraxia to the point it hardly effects me, it usually shows up after a seizure cus my brain has to kinda recalibrate but that’s it and even then I can still walk in a semi straight line and do “complex” movements I couldn’t do as a kid. It also improved my spacial awareness as you had to make sure you gave others enough space to dance in so it’s helpful for a bunch of skills. Anyway stay awesome, I just found your family and have fell in love with your positivity. I know my disabilities are most likely going to be genetic and pass to my children in the future and I can only hope I can have the same outlook as your family of and when the time comes

Would Sawyer ever potentially tolerate an earplug? I'm an adult with sensory processing disorder and love earplugs like Loop, which I believe has a kids' option. It's like turning the volume down, but still allows me to communicate and experience life. But I know it can be hard to have even something small/comfortable in-ear.
