How was it made? Moulding a seat for Marcel Breuer’s Short Chair
This film shows a contemporary version of Marcel Breuer’s Short Chair being made at the Isokon Plus workshop, London. A two part (concave and convex) mould is used to form the chair’s seat. Glued, cross-grained veneers are laid between the two parts which are then held together under pressure in a press. Once the glue has set, the seat is removed from the mould, ready for trimming and finishing.

Actually it looks really uncomfortable, like many "designer" chairs are. Just look at it, the seat is too long where are your knees supposed to bend, so you end up slouching with no lumbar support and it slippery so you will slide into an uncomfortable position. Do an image search, there is not one picture of someone sitting in it. Pretty to look at, bought to make a statement, but not for actually sitting in.

@@donaldasayers I can confirm the long version of this chair is incredibly comfortable to sit in. Most are used with a cushion that fits the entire length of the chair, and allows the body to fall into a natural shape, no lumbar support needed.

@@donaldasayers I’m not sure why you are assuming there is some correlation between photos of people sitting in the chair and how comfortable it is. Most photographs of iconic furniture design do not show somebody using them, as this would obscure the piece completely.

I bought Woodprix once and now I have lifetime access to thousands of woodworking projects.
This time I will do it manually with the help of Woodglut designs.
Think you might have skipped a few steps
This time I will use Stodoys plans for this.
