The engine is not heating up and I didn’t feel anything wrong while driving. It’s an Audi A5 2.0T 2014. Do I need to change the thermostat or can I keep the old one? I just don’t want to waste money in parts that are still working. Thanks for your help

    Nice video series. I have a 2010 CC which actually has had none of the common issues that you've done vids on. The car now has 162K miles and I just got done replacing the intake manifold since I was doing a valve cleaning. I figured it was due. The flapper was still working fine with no play in it. The water pump is still the original. Had I known it was sitting right there under the manifold I would have done it too, but it is still fine. I can't believe the frequency of failures i'm reading about here in the comments....

    Great video. I saw on your other video regarding the GTI water pump recall to also replace the seal for balance shaft/pulley bolt. I have a 2013 A5 2.0 TFSI CPMA engine. Do you recommend getting the seal replaced on my engine? It wasn't part of the water pump kit from Rein. They said in their video that they took your input when creating the kit to include the belt and pulley bolt, so I just want to double-check with you regarding the seal. Thanks!

    This video helped me realize the REAL cause of the failure this water pump in my car. Short story is that if you use Gunk engine degreaser on this engine, it lays on top of the gasket, under the intake manifold where you can't rinse it off. Three days later the coolant all blows out where the gasket swells and bulges out the side of the housing. It took two water pumps to figure this out.

    Recently my check engine light lit up and temp would rise 2 lines above regular temp but wouldn't go any higher. My coolant level was ok and I didn't see any leaks. Today my expansion tank cracked and car started overheating. I didn't have the chance to check the codes but I was told it was most likely the thermostat getting stuck. If so, would I have to remove and replace the whole water pump assembly to get to the thermostat or can it be replaced by itself?

    I'm working on installing OEM water pump #4 in 2 years on a 2009 A3 with 57K miles. They go out on me every 6 months (7K miles). My plastic keeps breaking at the bottom of the square section that attaches to the block. We replaced the cam cover sealant thinking maybe it was oil causing swelling, but no difference. Any advice? Could it be that the coolant is overheating and warping that area? Havent received any check engine lights or anything like that.

    Great video. Our 2012 EOS is going on its 4th pump after 85K miles. I don't have such a problem with a plastic anything, but rather I have a problem with such a bad design that has such a frequent failure rate. Between this and other major problems our car has had, not to mention the "dieselgate" issue in general, I can't imagine every buying another VW again!

  • @HumbleMechanic

    @HumbleMechanic

    +Joel Freeman Sorry about all the water pump issues. That does suck. If I may ask, how you feel about "Dieselgate"? For all practical proposes your car has no ties to that. Does that situation impact how you feel about the brand? (I am not being a jerk here, I really want to know)

  • @joelfreeman5899

    @joelfreeman5899

    +HumbleMechanic You are correct, my Eos, is not a diesel. However the degree of corporate malfeasance, the two faced "we will cooperate fully" and then do anything but, and the institutional arrogance are all reasons (compounded by my Eos experience) is why I'm turned off from the VW brand. The sophistication of the deiselgate shows that it wasn't a bad player or two, but a much larger intentional method to lie, cheat and steal. I won't reward that behavior. I know other companies lie cheat and steal, but when they are caught, and in fact big time, they should pay!

I had a huge water leak down the back of the motor and was finally able to track the source back to the pump. I will say it is rather difficult to get to. I do have a follow up question. How do I remove the pulley on the balance shaft that drives the pulley so I can replace this small belt with the new pump? I was able to slide the old belt off the pump but can not remove it from the driver pulley. Can you help?

I'm a bit impressed how well this car behaves on the road and how the exterior easily continues to impress with simple finish maintenance. The headliner can EFF right off. Seriously, right the F right off. Looks like this girl will be covered under warranty for the intake runner issue. Very smart of VW to address this dilemma finally for the rest of us that have been complaining. It seems cheaper than having to replace catalytic converters one day. ours became faulty right after we had a car oil leak fixed on a 2012 vw cc ccta. most likely affected the plastic. to expensive to fix and I bought the part myself. you're right about the car not overheating, however, it does leak consistently. Is it possible to just keep filling with water till I can afford to fix?

    Hi Charles. I know that this is an old video, but I need your knowledge and help. I have an overheating issue with my passat b6 2.0 tsi, but i don't have any error code in vcds, no leaks (coolant bottle cap, or water pump, or any connection, by the way, the car use B-13 coolant). The fans work properly, turn on over 90 centigrades. After that the temp increase constantly and then I turn off the car before the 110 cluster mark. I don't either any cluster alert. And I never had seen my temp gauge over 90/92. That happened to one day to another, I didn't use my car for almost 3 weeks and started with this issue (I needed to start with another battery, because my car had lost battery charge). I'm very confused about this issue, any idea about the cause of this? I don't want to spend money on parts that won't solve my problem. I'll really appreciate any advice about it. Thanks and Regards.

    I have a 2012 Tiguan 2.0 turbo manual. I was losing coolant, and found a leak at the water pump. I replaced the water pump with an oem part purchased at a vw dealership. Now the leak is no more, but the newest problem is that the engine light is coming on and saying the engine is running cold. The dash temp gauge does not move at all even when engine is hot. Lower radiator hose is cold, upper get hot as normal. Thought there might be air in the system, have applied pressure to the lower hose, it bubbles in the tank, but nothing seems to work to get the temp gauge to work or the lower hose to carry warm coolant. Car runs fine, no overheating or other issues that I am aware of. Any suggestions?

    It's kinda sad looking at all the comments here saying how early their water pumps fail. My 2004 VW has been pretty good at 178k miles, but I don't think I'd get a new VW. Too much plastic... I'll probably go for a Tacoma lmao

    I'm a tree The newest Toyotas use 'plastic' oil filter housings {and who knows what else is plastic}. I used to have a 2011 Camry, and after only 100,000 miles, the transmission started failing. Also, all the suspension components in Toyotas are cheap CRAP. After only 100,000 miles, my insurance actually totalled my entire car just because ALL the suspension components were failing {even though the car was in cosmetically brand-new condition}. I will NEVER purchase or associate with a Toyota product ever again.
