I said the same thing when I saw the thumbnail. Woody Hayes built Ohio State and the coaches in between did ok compared to what we are now. But Tressel brought us to the national stage and that was the beginning of a new era.

And it wasn’t really that bad of a year. That team would’ve been ranked preseason top 3 if there was no turmoil, so the talent was still there. They ended up losing 7 games, and I think 6 of them were by one possession or less, all without Terrell Pryor and with a first-year coach. Plus, they didn’t start Braxton at first. A better coach could’ve led that team to a BCS game....it’s why Urban led virtually the same team to a 12-0 record the very next season.

@@KevinWidesouls You're not quite correct in your assestment. Luke Fickell is a much better Head Coach that he was ever given a chance to be at Ohio St. Fickell was not allowed to make changes to the coaching staff and was only given a 1 year interim contract while the NCAA Investigation and sanctions rulings was being completed. Much of the Buckeyes woes that season lie at the feet of OC Jim Bollman, the miserable excuse of a QB that was senior Joe Bauserman, and the Tresselball Era virtue of starting upperclassmen, even if there were more talented younger players on the roster. If Fickell would have been allowed to make changes to the staff, and instill his philosophy, that team could have easily won 10+ games.
Your next video should be "How Urban Meyer Built the Jacksonville Jaguars"
Going to have to do the Rise and Fall of Urban Meyer now.

He didn't just put Ohio State back on the map, he put the entire B1G on the map. He set the standard. The B1G now boasts some of the best veteran and young coaching talent. Not too mention the rise in the recruiting ranking for the B1G as a whole. The last few years the B1G has pumped the NFL with rookies.

Tressel paved the way for Urban to take over something special & turn it into "ridiculously special!" Now, Day is keeping Buckeye football rolling at the elite level & let's hope Day stays for a LONG TIME! How freakin lucky are we to be Buckeye fans? Really, we are so lucky to be Buckeye fans!
Urban always does have some really great recruiting classes. I think he literally knows how to take their talent and just enhance it to an NFL level so quickly. His players are always getting drafted early-especially the corners and other specialist type positions it’s crazy.
Urban Meyer didn't build Ohio State. He inherited a Top 5 program and made it better.
As a Michigan fan, I could’v e narrated this video without Urban Meyer info. Great coach. What was the formula? Building Defense line, offensive line, QB’SS, RB’S? Insane continuity at QBS.
Same here. Ohio native. Not a Buckeye fan. Whenever people yell "O-H" at me, I have resorted to yelling "N-O" back at them. Keep up the good work, sir. I like your documentaries.

John Caparulo in the scientific community this is often condemned as a beta male movement
to everyone saying "OSU was already built", I'm an alum and Urban absolutely built the modern program as a it stands today. He opened recruitment swaths in the south like Texas and Florida and on the east coast in NJ. Those athletes that have defined his OSU teams are the the type of athletes that outclass the other B1G heavyweights like *ichigan and Penn State, and are what have made the Buckeyes so consistently dominant under Urban compared to Tressel before
Didn’t really tell us How, just told us What
Woody built OSU and Tressel brought it back Meyer carried it on
Correction to Title: Urban Meyer gets Ohio State back on track after one year hiatus.
He didn't build Ohio State, it was already built when he got there, don't get me wrong he is still doing a great job to keep the program up, but he didn't have to do much to bring them back up from 1 down year.

Non of these kids nowadays wanna play “Tressel Ball” the game has changed. Why you think we got blew out by LSU & Florida back to back??? Because they had better players all around. When Tressel was the HC he only could recruit the north. These are facts. Insert Coach Meyer and what you see now??? We landing 5 star guys from all over the country. And Tressel really didn't have much to build. Don't forget that, aside from Cooper's dismal failure against Michigan, he was a very good coach as well. Ohio State has never really faced adversity in the sense of a talent or coaching dropoff, even despite having two scandals involving head coaches in less than ten years. They've never really been "down" (but I would caution Buckeyes that it doesn't mean you never WILL be down. It can happen to any school, and your number may come up eventually).

Nice history lesson, but I was interesting in how Urban built the Buckeyes
Osu has always been a team that all of College football wants to beat well before meyer.
He recruited well at tOSU, because of Tim Tebow. He never had to build a program from bottom-up, maybe except Bowling Green. The following are the records of the prior seasons before he coached at the particular school. Bowling Green; 5-6,2-9 Utah; 8-4, 5-6 Florida 8-5, 7-4 Ohio State 12-1, 6-7

Urban Meyer didn't have to build Ohio st. It was already built for him . Jim Trestle already left him really good players and all the good recruits want to go there no matter who the coach. The only reason why Ohio st is good is because they're a blue blood and have a good reputation for winning.

I Love former Coach Meyer and the amazing present Coach Ryan Day
Great video bro🔥 Respect ❗❗
What also helps Ohio State always be great is Ohio State doesn't have to worry about an in-state rivalry to compete in recruiting with. This means there's a monopoly in high school players' interest in Ohio State when picking schools and wanting to stay in Ohio. Obviously a lot of other factors at play, but I think this is a big part in why Ohio State does so well. They're only true rivalry is Michigan. I live in Florida. We have UF, FSU, Miami, and now UCF. Imagine if there was only ONE SINGLE Florida college for players to choose on or leave the state. Think about the insane number of legendary players from the NFL that grew up in Florida. That gives you an idea of how big of an advantage it is when you don't have to worry about another university in Ohio stealing the top prospect from Ohio.

The Ohio State football infrastructure was built so many years ago that it is laughable for anyone to say Urban Meyer built Ohio State. The state of Ohio has always had the best high school football of all the Big 10 schools until Penn State joined the conference, and they had been recruiting Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and other states previously. Ohio State gets more blue chippers than any other Big 10 school, with the only competition for blue chippers being Penn State and Michigan. Urban Meyer retooled a machine that only needed a few new or refurbished parts. The only other schools that compare are Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame and USC.

Moron . It’s 2020 and we’re back in the Natty. Nobody gives a crap about the Purdue loss except jealous fools like you.
Urban solidified a stellar program and made it one of the best NFL proving grounds for young kids. He did by recruitment and getting the best position coaches to love them and coach them up. He was vilified by ESPN and they tried to blame him for violations. That was the straw that broke his back! Look at his last yr when he and Shelly embraced and she said you did it you beat TUPN again The man had stress related health issues and most folks dogged him saying it was an excuse especially those liberal fools at ESPN Look now he is the best coach of reason and shares his wisdom with FOX sports. I will never watch ESPN game day or wrap up again. Talk to his ex players and see if they or their families have bad word to say about Urban.
He didn't build Ohio State, Woody Hayes built the Buckeyes, Earle Bruce did his best to retain that, John Cooper tried to destroy us, Jim Tressel rebuilt us, tattoo gate came had a down year with Luke Fickle, Urban Meyer bounced us back, and now I don't know how to describe Ryan Day nowadays other than bittersweet.
