A thing that I really noticed is that Tylers rap-parts are less rap and more poetry slam. I thought about it since te rap from HeavyDirtySoul was featured in a street poetry video from Rocksound. So I looked into other rap parts and they all check out as slam poetry. The rhyming, the coming back to repetition lines, the unrapable lines, it all makes sense if you put it in the concept of poetry slam. A thing that I think really makes twenty one pilots songs good is that Tyler never pretends in his songs. If he writes about something it's because it's keeping him up at night, not because someone said it's popular to write about it.

  • @StormCG

The Anna While not being what could be considered "stereotypical" rap, what Tyler does is still very much rapping. As rap is an acronym for rythmn and poetry, his lyrics are still considered rap. And furthermore, while some artists that release more mainstream music do it for money, you have to accept that none of the people that made it big started out thinking "Oh, I'm going to make loads dojng this." Their goal was to share music with the world, the same as Tyler. And many could argue that their lyrics are just as meaningful, as everyone interprets things differently. Someone who struggles with depression might lean more towards twenty one pilots, whereas someone else might listen to something else because it's meaningful to them. I can think of a multitude of mainstream artists that write from the heart. And the topics Tyler sings about are popular topics, otherwise they wouldn't have gained so much support. Of course, he doesn't choose to sing because he knows they're an apparent subject, but accept that all successful artists do have a popular aspect to their music, or it wouldn't be...popular. Don't be so quick to generalize.

If I had the money I'd totally take your class out of curiosity. And the more I think about it the more I wanna but 1. there is no international payment option and 2. if I have learned anything it is that if confronted with good songwriting I'll just give up on music all together and with the frequency my 4 am breakdowns recently have, I don't think I could afford that

  • @milai_25

I don't know if this is relevant to the video but to me, twenty one pilots's songs gives me this message of a beginning of realization. It's not exactly forcing positivity, telling you to believe in yourself, to be happy (those are great messages but they are too hard for a depressed person). It's more like a slight twist to how we think, which makes us start to think about stuff that keeps us alive before ending our lives. Their songs are like seeds and they plant the seeds in the fan's hearts, and the fans can water the seed, fertilize the seed when they are prepared enough to do so, and the grown plant is when we stay alive and stop being suicidal. They don't just give us the plant right away. They give us the seed and leave it for us to grow it. Which I think is a better way to wake the fans up from nightmares. Some examples that clearly tells this beginning of realization thing (at least I think): -maybe defeating them (your demons) could be the *beginning* of your meaning, friend [Kitchen Sink] (defeating, meaning at least we won't believe in the false words of the devil) -let's take this a second at a time [Guns for Hands] ... together let's breathe (breathing is the beginning of staying alive) -stay alive (not stay happy, stay positive, but just the simplest of all: to stay alive) [many songs] -I want to say... hello [Trees] (hello is a simple word, and we can break the isolation by this simple word. It's just a "hello", it doesn't have to be a "hey what you up to let's go party", which is easier for ppl to step outside of their own mind) ok that was long. But forgive me for putting that here... pls note that that is my own interpretation including how I described the song lyrics... Actually does that even make sense?! the whole beginning of realization thing?!
