I really wanted to have a brand new video ready in time for the New Year as opposed to just this, but sadly that didn't turn out to be feasible. Holiday preparations, finishing up the Toy Story commentaries, as well as a generally busy life schedule really got in the way of that plan. So I figured if I couldn't do that, I could at least finally finish that HTS4DE supercut I promised months ago and get it through copyright - which turned out to be a much bigger pain in the ass than I ever expected. So to everyone who wanted this supercut to be able to watch the whole series in one shot - with some technical issues fixed from the original release - I hope you enjoy :) Looking back on this series, there are definitely things I would change. I would probably cut out some super minor points, I would want to redraft some sections to communicate my ideas better, I might hold back on the excessive rage - just a little bit, because if _everything_ is over the top then _nothing_ is over the top - I'd definitely make an effort to use a more diverse selection of reaction clips so they don't get repetitive and tiresome to look at over and over again - because I'm just as sick of seeing that Sokka clip as you are - and plenty of other miscellaneous things I'd want to change because I've learned a lot about making these types of videos over the last year. But, even with all of that, it's the series that changed my life for the better, and I still stand by the major points I made. So overall, I'm quite proud of How Toy Story 4 Destroyed Everything, and am thrilled to see that it resonated with so many of you as well. Now comes the question of "yeah yeah, a supercut of a series you already made is cool and all, but when are we getting NEW stuff? Where's Cars on the Road and Lightyear?" Well, as I mention in the final section of this video, those are still in the pipeline as we speak, but it's taken me a lot longer to make them than I thought. To update you on the general progress for both, I am rapidly approaching the conclusion of the visual editing process for the Cars on the Road video, and I have the entire audio timeline finished for Lightyear - meaning my narration is recorded and edited, and all necessary audio clips/music sections are laid out accordingly. I wanted to have them both by the end of last year, but life really caught up with me for the last two months and I wasn't able to make as much progress as I wanted. But my hope is that I can be much more efficient with production this year - to a healthy extent, of course - because I'm probably no less frustrated by the lack of main videos than all of you. I want to take my time to do them right, and do them without overworking myself. I don't have a team of editors, I'm doing this all by myself, which is something I'm fine with as it gives me total creative control. But it also means my production schedule can't be as accelerated as what you may be used to seeing from other channels. I know it doesn't mean much at this point for me to say "it'll be ready when it's ready," but that's all I can offer you at the moment. That, and my continued promise to do my best to make these projects the best they can be, and to make 2023 the best year of content I've ever had across both my channels. Thank you all once again for your continued support. More cool stuff is on the horizon for 2023, and I hope I can make it worth the wait. In the meantime, I hope you all had a very happy holiday season, and wish you a very happy new year.

The worst part of this film overall is the message Woody's Arc gives. "being loyal to your friends and family will make you unhappy, they will just abandon and betray you later, like Bonnie did to Woody, you're better off living alone, free to wander the world, being loved by all but never attaching yourself to anyone." Congratulations Toy Story 4, you made Woody agree with Stinky Pete.

@abdullahimran4624

the existence of a 4th toy story is something this movie made me come around to, but the existence of THIS 4th toy story is not acceptable. I think that the writers were right to think woody needed a better ending. He is Andy's toy his arc cant just be to forget that and be with another kid. I also really enjoyed the exploration of lost toys, and antique toys. However, the writers unnecessarily brought everyone else in and ruined their characters. I think this movie should have been a solo adventure for woody, where he goes on a grand quest through the toy story world, seeing all the different types of toys like the lost toys and whatnot, searching for meaning. What he finds I leave to the writers but I definitely dont think TS3 was the perfect ending for every character.

This is how I felt while watching Toy Story 4. I never watch 1 and 2 seriously as a kid, so I decided to binge the movies completely recently. Toy Story 4 is the only installment in the series I don't bother to look up from my phone while watching. Toy Story 4 should be entertaining for kids, but it doesn't have the same charm as the first ones for adults. Which is a shame because when rewatching the first one I was impressed with how entertaining it still is to me in my late 20s. Toy Story 4... feels formulaic to me. And yep, all the principles of the characters that have been built up across 3 movies have been thrown out the window. Even more apparent when watching back to back. Woody is an interesting case though, while he always talks big about friendship and being there for the kid, but then he was also shown to be ready to ditch the friends/kid he had on a whim. On multiple instances he was shown ready to ditch them until something/someone managed to convince him to stay. So it makes him a hypocrite in the 3rd movie when he convinced the other toys they shouldn't worry and abandon Andy even if they're not favorites. With the 4th one we now know for sure he WAS only saying that because he was Andy's favorite. Hamm was right all along.

I knew from the second a 4th film was announced that it wouldn't compare with the third. It was meant to be a new beginning with Andy passing the torch to Bonnie. Is amazing how quickly they extinguished said torch over a stupid school project (f you Forkie). We can always pretend this movie doesn't exist, it all ended with Toy Story 3.
It bothers me how one of the messages this movie tries to convey is that romantic love is more important than friendship. As someone who’s been abandoned by close friends after they got into a relationship, that just doesn’t sit right with me. There’s more than enough room for all kinds of love in a person’s life, not just romantic love. A relationship that requires you to leave all your friends behind is not healthy. I think the ending of this movie sends an absolutely atrocious message to its audience.

I couldn't quite place it back when I first saw the movie but yeah, that's probably a big reason why the ending felt off and unsatisfying to me. It was a huge relief to reconnect with them all again once the relationship imploded and I no longer had to worry about the ex being annoyed/mad at me

Not only his friends (and I can even say family in this case) but also his duties and his job. This literally sounds like young teenagers world's picture. Remember then Tramp said to Lady they could be together as a stray dogs and she said no, I have my family and child to protect EVEN THE MOMENT THEY TEMPORARILY ABANDONED HER because of the newborn. Well here we have Woody became a lost toy without even this reason. He just said "welp no no bitches for me now"
I think Buzz's character assassination was the most annoying thing to me. All I could think about was the scene in Toy Story 2 where Buzz tells Woody why he came to rescue him. The Buzz in that scene and the Buzz in Toy Story 4 are not the same. Buzz became so horribly dumb for no reason other than comedic relief.

She really is a witch lol first time I saw this I felt bad for her but then I thought about it more and thought about it from a special needs perspective (as I myself am special needs so I connected to her) and I was like, wow she really is evil to take Woody's voice box all because hers was made to not work right and knowing Woody from the other movies, he would've taught her that she doesn't need his voice box and she's perfect just the way she is! I bet you if woody had said no then she tried to reunite with Harmony, I bet harmony would have took her as a disabled doll and accepted her and woody would've been proven right! Even changing just that would change the entire dynamic to this story plot
I know a lot of people hate the nitpicking in this video, but I think it's important to understand he's nitpicking for a reason. A piece of media with a billion tiny errors has just as much punching power as a piece of media with one ginormous error, and I think a lot of people don't fully understand that. A lot of these tiny nitpicks are actually really crucial as to what made the previous films so amazing, and when added up total just go to show how much of a disaster they made this film into.

It reminds me of something RadicalSoda said in his _Sonic Colors: Ultimate_ review: “How many hairs do you need to find in your burger before you realize that the chef doesn’t give a shit?” You’re absolutely right that this many nitpicks bring down the quality of a piece in the “Death by a Thousand Paper-Cuts” style, and it is absolutely indicative of the care taken during the creation of that piece when so many errors slip by.

Bad writers often flaunt their privilege in that it doesn't even occur to them that getting to write a movie in an beloved IP like Toy Story 4 isn't just an huge opportunity, but also is a moral obligation to honor all that came before you and write the best story possible.
One thing that always struck me dumb about the cat part is that...Buzz. Has. A. Fucking. Laser. Not a laser beam perhaps, but it's a laser pointer. At the very least it can presumably make a laser dot appear on a surface he points it at. In the first movie Buzz was all about his gadgets, and in 2 and 3 he found creative ways to use them. GEE, writers, I WONDER if he could have done anything, anything, ANYTHING AT ALL to help distract the cat.

Compare that to Mel Brooks golden years of storytelling. He once got in an argument with Gene Wilder over the Putting On The Ritz scene from Young Frankenstein, and after Gene vehemently argued his case to keep it for over twenty minutes, Meek yielded. When Gene asked why Mel changed his mind, Mel said: "Sometimes, you have to be willing to take a sledge hammer to your own work, because that's what your audience is going to be doing when they're watching it. But if it holds up, you go with it." Good storytellers will actively work to iron out any problems with their writing to make as excellent a story as they possibly can, while bad ones make no effort to correct their mistake and just hope you don't notice. And the worst of storytellers will point out their own plot holes, only to have a characters slam their first on the diner table and yell "IT DOESN'T MATTER!"

Gabby could've been a good character. If after being rejected by harmony she'd realized what a monster she'd been and that she can't achieve her dreams by taking them from others and that it's her responsibility to be a good toy and get a kid despite her disability, she could've been the best part of the movie.

I'm at 3:55:14, so apologies if you address this later, but I had to say this just in case. What's really fun is to compare this film to Lady and the Tramp. Specifically, the scenes where Tramp tries to convince Lady that the outside world is better than her home. Being "free" is better than "commitment." That it's better to live life with *no* responsibilities and chase every quick, cheap thrill you can find. And in that movie, Tramp was portrayed as *wrong* when his pursuit of those quick, cheap thrills (i.e. convincing Lady to chase chickens) results in Lady being shipped off to the pound and horribly traumatized. Jump ahead several decades and Tramp's original mindset is being pushed by Bo Peep except she is portrayed as *right* and Woody is treated like there's something wrong with him for wanting to stay committed to his kid and his responsibilities. And it ends with Woody abandoning his principles to adopt Bo's. Thereby sending the message, "Hey, kids. Commitment is bad and you should definitely abandon all your responsibilities to dedicate your life to the pursuit of quick, cheap thrills." I cannot stress enough how damaging of a message that is for children and adults alike.
@Sunnysideup420

They legit could of had both lives seem good and show how sometimes it’s best to go separate ways (and I mean Woody accepting that him and Bo live different lives now and he can move on with his family and live his life while she can go live hers) Like, Bo is a different person than she was before and so is Woody. Woody has changed a lot over the years, especially after Toy Story 3. He’s not the same person Bo loved and vice versa
I feel like the biggest problem with this movie is it stems from Woody having an insecurity about not being played with. Instead of expanding on that, they double down and make it seem like it's totally okay.

I'm glad he helped at least one person realize that this movie is hot garbage, and I knew that without ever watching this video series, never mind the film itself. When I first heard that Toy Story 4 was in the works, I was against the very idea of it because, as someone who grew up with the first two films, I felt like TS3 was the perfect end to the series, and I felt like another film (beyond the shorts and TV specials, which at least kept some significant amount of continuity with the original trilogy) was nothing but a shameless money grab. Then I read a review of the film (but not this one) that described the ending and how it went against all the values and moral lessons of the first three films, and I knew that I never, ever wanted to see it. (See--spoilers ARE good for something!) I'm so glad that I trusted my gut on that one. IMHO, only the first three movies and the shorts/specials are canon. Another commenter on the last video of his initial TS4 series gave a hypothetical scenario where the whole plot is merely Woody having a nightmare, and he wakes up in Bonnie's room, a theory I also regard as canon. If anybody reading this hasn't yet seen this movie and is thinking about it, please, we beg you, *DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!* Do whatever it takes to dodge that bullet! On a related note, it seems like Disney has recently been putting lots of immoral or age-inappropriate messages in their other recent "family" movies besides this one. Zootopia, for example, was a not-so-subtle allegory in favor of identity politics. More recently, Lightyear featured a lesbian kiss scene, and I know GamingMagic called people who criticized that bigots, but I don't think that it's necessarily bigoted to think that depicting homosexuality in a movie targeted at families with small children isn't age appropriate. Regardless of how you feel about gay rights or homosexual behavior, this shouldn't be a controversial opinion at all, and the fact that it is nowadays is a sad commentary on the current state of our society.

Toy Story 2: "Somewhere in that pad of stuffing is a toy who taught me that life's only worth living if you're being loved by a kid. And I travelled all this way to rescue that toy because I believed him." "Watch kids from behind glass and never be loved again? Some life." "I can't stop Andy from growing up, but I wouldn't miss it for the world." Toy Story 3: "Well, whatever happens, at least we'll all be together." Let them keep talking, that way it's easier to make fun of in the long run. As the old saying goes " Never interupt your enemy while they're making a mistake." Or in their case mistakes.
I remember my mom discovering a goofy "what toy story character are you based on your birth month" Facebook post and just for fun looked into it, she got forky and was actively upset because she would have preferred any of the classic characters
2:04:54 The worst part is that there is an infinitely better way to write this scene if they kept Andy’s name on Woody’s boot. We already saw Forky being held back by Woody’s boot during the montage sequence, so it’s entirely possible that Forky could’ve seen the name on Woody’s boot. Then, as they’re making their hike back to the RV, Forky could ask what her name was again. Woody would reply that it’s Bonnie and then Forky would say that A-N-D-Y was a weird way to spell Bonnie. And THEN we would get the whole scene with Woody explaining his backstory about him and Andy in a much more natural way. But much like the crucial small positives lead to big payoffs in the original trilogy, the small unnecessary changes lead to stupid decisions from the writing team. Also, nice video.

Extra detail I just found out: Toy Story 4 has an extra inconsistence for people who live in Latinoamérica (I don't know if any other dubs have this problem or similar as well), in the first three movies, the latinoamerican dub called Bo Peep 'Betty', and every character referred to her as such. Toy Story 4 could have simply had Jessy doing fine in the closet but Buzz asks her if she's okay and she affirms that she'll be fine, which would've respected her growth but acknowledges that phobias aren't necessarily conquered in one go or even at all but managed enough to function in day to day life. The head writer of most Disney movies, Joe Ranft, actually revealed Woody's origins to Mike Mozart, who is a KZreadr and a long time toy guru. Woody was originally owned by Andy's deceased father, who won Woody in a giveaway by the company that made Woody's Roundup. This took place in the 50's when the polio virus was rampant. Andy's father had polio, and since he had it, his toys were going to be burned, but he managed to keep Woody, Slinky, and Potato Head away from burning by putting them in a box and putting them in the attic (correct me if I'm wrong.) Years later, he survived polio and eventually married Andy's mom and had Andy. But before Andy's birthday party in Toy Story 1, Andy's dad eventually gave his son the three toys and passed away soon after due to post polio syndrome. A lot of people think that Andy was the one that wrote his name on the bottom of Woody's foot, but it was actually Woody's father that did it. Knowing all of this, and knowing how Woody was very special to Andy, it absolutely baffles me how Woody would make the conscious decision to abandon his friends for another toy that all of a sudden has a different personality compared to the early movies. In Toy Story 2, Buzz talked Woody out of leaving for Japan by mentioning how Andy would be broken if he was lost forever. And like you mentioned in the video, Andy gave Woody to Bonnie so he can pass along the "torch" to her. So the fact that Woody would leave his friends because of Bo Peep manipulating him into thinking he's a "misfit toy" is flooring to me. Also, there's no closure after they leave Woody behind. It feels so rushed and it feels like they did this just to focus on tugging on heart strings. If there ever is a prequal to the Toy Story movies, I seriously hope they empathize on Andy's father so people can take their rose tinted glasses off when it comes to their opinion on the fourth movie. Toy Story 4 was unnecessary and it's horribly written in terms of context of past movies.
@thetoadwalker3010

Learning this, frankly, Andy should have kept Woody at the end of TS3. That would have been more bitter sweet but more realistic ending. He should have taken a moment to share with Bonnie the childhood joy of imagination and play like he does, but then explained to her that Woody was his dad's and established why even after all these years that toy in particular was so special to him. Bonnie could have even encouraged him to keep it, as a show of natural self-less-ness/sweetness that gives her a more rounded likeable character even though she's a small child. That would have challenged Woody's character, and the bonds between all the toys. But Woody accepting that choice would have added to the over arching theme in TS that the needs of a toy's kid are always higher then their own wants even after everything he's been through, something that connects back to the joy and pain of parenthood the toys often touch on as a background theme in the stories. Even young-adult/adult children still need their parents and emotional support, and Woody being Andy's dead father's toy would clearly make Woody a very sentimental toy to Andy. Under these circumstances it would make sense for him to hold onto Woody into adulthood and maybe even give him to his own children instead of a random neighbor. Maybe a short could have added to Woody's story later by making him an antique grandfather like figure to a new generation of toys owned by Andy's kids. Maybe I just think this because I have a toy that's been in the family for generations, but that final ending in TS3 always rubbed me the wrong way juuuuuust a little bit and now I feel like I understand why. Thank you for sharing this!

I think I have an alternate proposal for Forky's story. Imagine if instead of him inmediately trying to throw himself away, he was actually excited about becoming a toy, having Woody explain the freezing rule and stuff on their way home while they're in Bonnie's backpack. Then, he grows insecure about being a bunch of random art supplies, as he is constantly falling apart and getting put back together when Bonnie plays with him during the roadtrip. He starts thinking that maybe he isn't good enough to be a toy, and decides he'd rather throw himself away on his own terms than getting slowly less played with until Bonnie eventually just forgets about him. After all, he's just a worthless pile of junk, who is gonna miss him? Bonnie could just make another version of him or get a new toy. Woody's already experienced the fear of being replaced/discarded so he'd understand and try to help Forky. After getting kidnapped by Gaby (and let's just say she never gets a voice box and put a pin on that) he'd have the conversation with her about how the music box will make her perfect and worthy of this girl she's obsessed with. This would reinforce the idea in Forky that if you're not some perfect shiny piece of plastic (and/or cloth) you're not worthy of calling yourself a toy. Seeing then Gaby help the lost girl despite not having a voice box would show Forky that a toy can still make a child happy no matter how imperfect they might think they are. This may be a rough and unpolished idea but I want to think that it would handle the subject of feeling like trash and being suicidal with respect. And that's just the Forky stuff. Idk what would I do about the rest of the negative aspects the video points out.

The commentary is enlightening for why Bonnie now hates Woody. Of course it’s the director’s own anecdotal evidence being responsible for a massive character change. Good writers can write characters that aren’t them; bad writers can only write about what they personally know. I want to know what the original Lasseter script was like before the multiple rewrites.

i honestly think a lot of generalization was going on there too... and sexism. because well, all little girls are the same, so of course they'd all prefer to play with a girl doll, right?

I hate it so much when people say to write what you know. No no no no no! If you only write what you have personally experienced, your story and characters will be unrealistic, bland, and frustrating. Real writers understand that the world is much bigger than themselves.

@@darienodette Counterpoint, Don't you think it's far more accurate to say if you are to write what you know, *expand what you know* as well. Obviously writing what you know will not get you far if there's not alot of stuff you really know about. Hence why people try to connect to others, expand on the stories they read or even while travelling. To understand that the world is much bigger than themselves also falls into write what you know (or understand) technically speaking. Unless we consider knowing and understanding to be two entirely different stages.
The rant about the chain of monkeys at the beginning was some of the hardest I've ever laughed at any youtube video or anything online in general. Great video, man.

As funny as it was, he made very valid good points. It drives anyone bananas and since has Bo Peep have Wonder Woman strength.
Finally, someone who calls out Toy Story 4 for the disgrace it truly is to the master trilogy. I'm an hour in and some of the critiques you have presented I had also noticed, but you've noticed three times as many problems as I ever had only loading on more frustration and anger at this pitiful cash grab. Thank you, sir, great video.
