My daughter left for basic training on 8/30/21 and I miss her soooooo bad. I’m writing a million letters and have everyone doing the same to keep her spirits high because i know it’s equally as difficult for her to be away from us. My boyfriend is in basic training for the military and they usually start you off as an E1. However, they did have opportunities for him to rank up to E2 if he passed the physical test. If your daughter talked about or went to an extra physical test she might be an E2, if not then everyone starts out as an E1.

If I decorate the letter (NOT THE ENVELOPE) will my trainee get in trouble? I have a couple of motivational, and some silly, stickers on the empty spaces of my letters. Is this okay?

Thank you so much for your video, it’s so helpful. Just a couple of questions. Do trainees get to receive the letters on weekdays too or they have to be hold until Sundays? If I send him letter everyday, will it get the Drill Sergeant’s attention and may become an issue?

Thank you for your kind words. It wont be an issue! Honestly, it depends on the sergeants decision if he wants to do it everyday but usually its every weekends because they get to rest and its like their “reward” but I dont think that will be an issue. I wrote 3 letters a day lol and send them every other day.

i admit i have never sent a letter before so im nervous about it all and want to get it right. does it matter what kind of envelope we use? obviously ill use a plain white one but what specific size is the one you used?

I used different sizes depending on how big or how many letters I have. You can send any size of envelopes :)

Yes! I don’t see any harm in that :) i wrote little “i love you” on the envelopes or like cute names “hey sexy” or something really funny.. they were written very small on corners of the envelope so its discreet 😆

Awwww noooooo! I hate that! One time I missed my boyfriends (now husband) call and I cried for it for like 3 days, I was so mad at myself so you’re not alone hha. Dont leave your phone on silent! Put it on loud and vibrate haha 😅

If you have an iPhone you can go into his contact and add emergency bypass for his phone calls and messages so it rings even if your phone is muted, hope that helps!

@@mmfrru so mine called me about 2 weeks after he shipped. And then no phone calls at all for the next few weeks then towards the end of basic I got once a week (every sundays or if they did something nice, they get rewarded) then two weeks before basic graduation it was an everyday thing :)

I got a question I already received a call from my boyfriend like the last call their allowed to make and he gave me the address with their platoon and everything . He said I can already send him letters but I just wanna make sure

XBloomin SkiesX hmm.. i honestly dont think the recruiters know anything after they get shipped (lol sounds funny.) but yeah nowadays they have fb groups of the platoon as well. Why not try to get in touch with people he is close with? Maybe they know more? The army sends a letter to immediate family members regarding these infos. Hope that helps!

i know this video was 3 years ago but i just found it and have been watching videos that have the same content as this!! my best friend is gonna get shipped out in July next year and i live in another country which it's like 7500 miles away :( i'm just wondering if i could send him a letter and what about the stamps? does it have to be "American" stamps? or i could just use a normal one? i never written letters before and don't know much about anything so any help would be appreciated :) are they allowed to text and use data there when they are giving u the address and all that cuz our way of talking is through imess or insta! i''m just worried that i won't be able to send him any letters :( i hope this gets to u and also u are so pretty ahhh!!! and also how many letters can i send him at one time? does it have to be in a different envelope or i can just put all the letters in one envelope? will he get in trouble for receiving too much letters? how about the pic in there i don't know if he will get in trouble if the sergeant feels that the envelope is a lil thicker? thank u sm!!

hi dear!!! any stamps will do! :) the weight of your letter determines how much stamps you stick. i usually just put one or two depending if there’s a couple of letters and pictures in one envelope. you can write as many as you want! :) as for the data, im not sure what carrier he has but he should be able to use it. its just, after reception, they are only given a couple minutes literally 1-5minutes tops to contact someone just to inform them of the address and that they got there safely.

Can I put a sticker on the back where the envelope gets sealed? Just to make sure it stays closed during shipping

Yes pictures are fine! I sent like 10 pictures every letter 😂 I sent meme pictures, polaroids of myself, my dogs, my meal, things interesting.. also got some printed at walgreens haha

my bf got to camp yesternight and used his final call for me to tell me in like 10 seconds that he made it there a the navy base near great lakes and that there will be a two week quarantine. He also said something about calling and graduation but I couldn't hear him. I'm super sad. I don't know when i'll be able to know the address and when he will call me and or write to me. :( Update: :) his grandma got his form letter and I have his address! I also got some personal letters from him. It’s the end of week 4 now.

Anayah .M preferred the letters as it is hidden.. you can do that to the envelopes as well, just dont put any “cheesy” words on it.. happy writing!!!

My boyfriend didn't have RTC in his address so I never put it, and he still got my letters. Don't worry if you don't get a letter right away either! It took about a week for me to get a letter back from him. :)

You’ll be fine! Asumming theres only one of his last name in the unit. Also almost all of them are PVT and PFC and maybe some CPL. Youre good!

It’s going to be the address in Germany. Just write the German base address. Tell them it’s an “APO” address.

Shyla Walker rank is for example if he’s a private it will abbreviated as “PVT, PVT2” and then theres a Private First Class which is PFC so on and so forth...

Shyla Walker yes maam! Exactly what it means. Basically, E-1 is the pay grade, so don’t put that anywhere on a paper or anything. It’s basically telling people how much you get paid. You’re welcome! :) happy writing! :)

Mckenzie Rivera you can. It’s just the address.. I was talking about colored printed “cheesy” envelopes. You can do whatever you want, at the end of the day he will still receive the letter with colored ink address ;) happy writing!

BIG YES!!!! That’s basically how you pay for your letter. Make sure theres always a stamp on your letters :) also send them stamps as well so they dont need to buy a book :)

Yes they are allowed to leave a voicemail if your phone carrier allows voicemails.. they have restricted time and really only selected people to call.

My I received the last call from my fiancé to give me the address however I was driving on the freeway and I did not have a pen to write it down... The phone call was only a minute long and it ended abruptly. Will he be able to send me a letter first so I can have the address.. I'm worried that I won't be able to send him letters.

Diana Lopez mine got sent back to me.. but my other friends went through fine.. my other friend didnt know the rank but my boyfriend at that time suggested that if the bf is a fresh recruit then hes most likely a pvt or a pfc so she wrote pvt and it turns out it was right haha

so what happens if on the top left corner we write our zip code under the city & state and on the center we write their name first then the last name ?

Wendy Zapata for the zip code part, i dont think it matters if you make another line for it as long its the right one and complete information. For the name format for your soldier (info on the center) since it’s in the military, and its how the letters are organized and distributed during their mail time, it just makes sense to write it like that. (Rank, last name, first name, middle name) hope that helps you! :)

Oh and also, i guess for the name format, its very rare but it can happen. I know someone who went to basic training and there are two people with a first name leon and last name shane and then another soldier in another platoon is first name shane and last name leon. I dont know, i think its very rare but those are just the perfect example for it

I have a question, my girlfriend just shipped off to basic, and she is a Private. She also told me her rank is E-2. So on the envelope do I write PVT E-2 and then her last name and first name?

Kevin Fernandez no, so you only put the rank not the paygrade. Pay grade is a private information just like you wouldnt want to give strangers information of how much you get paid :) so you will just want to write PVT (last name) (first name) (middle initial if theres any) HAPPY WRITING ☺️

I have two questions, does my address have to be on the envelope and can i type and print this letter out instead of writing it? I have a friend in the army right now and he texted the group chat that me and my friends are in to write to him so yeah.

Daniel G yes you can type and print the letter itself. The most important thing is having the right information (address) on the envelope. Yes, the address should be on the envelope, always. Hope it helps!

I boyfriend got a visit home once and they haven’t got to call nobody i don’t think . He gave me the word platoon and D echo what am I suppose to do with that I got they address and stuff .

Mekaela Farris okay and he’s in Camp Shelby they don’t get phones calls cause he never called me before and he has my number. He’ll be back in May hopefully I can get everything then . He officially gets out in June 🥰.

Yes too early. He will go to reception, basically it’s a place where they in-process, get their vaccines, haircut, uniforms and everything to be ready for training. He will have an opportunity to call you while at reception just letting you know he is safe and all that jazz so make sure your phone is literally on its loudest lol. He’ll be there for about a week then go to his actual base/training area. So wait it out until he gets there and he will get to send you letters with a return address :)

@@mekaela.farris Wait so week 0 and week 1 are too early to send letters? I sent letters week 0 and one letter week 1 to my GF. She sent a picture of the address the day she got there. I figured I should send letters early on since it would take about a week to arrive and that first week would be the hardest emotionally and mentally. I won't have a lot of free time this week or these upcoming weeks with the Holidays and all that, but would 2 letters a week be enough? I was also thinking about sending crossword puzzles and word searches.

@@slim7406 i mean, if you already have the address might as well. Thats what I did. Because it takes a week or two to get the letters to them. I think 2 is okay... I sent 20 letters a week 😂 like 3 everyday or sometimes 5. Like literally talking to him updating him on my days, it was fun 😂 he loved it

@@mekaela.farris i have a question 🥺 so now that covid is around my bf is currently in quarantine for 14 days in flordia. then after quarantining he goes to south carolina for boot camp. However, he sent me a letter while he was in quarantine saying i can’t currently write to him. On the outside of the letter it was the boot camps address. Should i just wait a week until he gets out of quarantine to send a letter to him? or should i wait for him to mail me again to make sure it’s good.

@@makaylalynne4886 hi my dear! 🙂 i think it’s best if you wait it out a little bit, like when he gets to his permanent boot camp, that way the letter won’t get lost or rerouted and that will take more than a week to get to him. I will suggest just start writing to him, pile it up, that way he has more letters to read while waiting for more to come in the mail.. when he gets to his company hopefully he will have a small time to talk to give you his new address :) hope that helps! 😊

Hi I have a question what is troop? I’m so confused I have everything I need I think as in the information to put on the envelope like my fiancé’s information I need help MOS for example for him I think it’s OSUT for 11b infantryman is this correct ugh I don’t know I’m having a hard time I’ve never done this before

11B is his MOS ( his job code, 11b stands for infantry) OSUT means (one station unit training) which means his basic training and AIT (ait advanced individual training is the training right after basic training) so OSUT just means they do both of those trainings at the same location. Troop is the name/section of their company, so in short its a subunit of a company.

Yaire Delgado no you’re fine! I was in your shoes before so I totally get it.. Ok so Echo company is his troop/company. It’s like a small unit/section. If you’re familiar with Alpha, Beta, Charlie, Echo, Delta... basically imagine you’re in gradeschool. Ya’ll are in grade 3 but you are in section A and your friend is section B. It’s the same concept. Hehe, hopefully you get the whole shebang.. if you need help you can message me :)

Hi dear! Yeah I think it will get to him unless there’s another guy with the same name at the other platoon. I’m sure there are other people in his previous plt who so got transferred that has letters pending so it should be fine! :)

Samantha tilly Hi! It doesn’t matter if it’s the glossy photo material or paper, hell if you use the app Sandboxx, they send a paper photo to your SO. Just keep in mind, based on my experience, the drill sergeants inspect the content of the photo if it’s appropriate or not so make sure it is decent :)

I’m sorry but what the heck are MOS and their troop and stuff. Like I was given everything but the way he gave it to me is kinda confusing.

MOS is the “code” of their job. Troop is what company they belong to

So it wouldn't be okay to send them letters, for example, In a pink envelope? I want to be kinda cute because he knows I'm like that but I don't want him getting I trouble for it! Even if I don't add any cute things on it just the necessary information. I love the vid btw!!😊💕

this isnt the main way to send letters, it depends on his mos but I dont have to do all the extra stuff either, all I have is the address his company and platoon. if he says thats the address to send then send it.

So I asked my husband and he said that they have an opportunity to send a letter during reception, but they tell them to not put any info/return address because they are just there for a couple of days or a week,m... he’s probably at reception right now so just wait it out a little when he actually gets to his actual base/company place and he will have a return address for you soon :)

So i can send like a photo of me and my girlfriend in the letter ? Its just a cute photo of us . Am I allowed to send that photo through the envelope with letter

hmm.. im not sure about not having the mos.. but has he sent you any pictures? maybe the patch he is wearing is visible? i can help you identify what rank he is.. and about the mos, can you reach out to his family? they usually send a letter to immediate relatives about the address and their info :) hope that helps a little bit

Michy OMG yes you can but I don’t think they will be able to wear it, they are not allowed to wear any type of jewelries other than religious kind... you can still send them I guess they will just have to hang it or keep it in their locker :) hope that helps! ☺️

Like literally 2-3 weeks for me the first letter.. then it’s 1-2 weeks the whole training :)

they should br able to provide it for you when they call you from reception. also ask his parents, they should receive a letter from the army with all the details you need to know for basic training :)

Hi, I have a question. So I received that last call they give but no address, I received a package with their stuff but not all of the information that you said we needed.
