This was on of the best, most humble, tutorials on modding a knife that I have ever seen. You are a man among men, in my opinion! Keep the videos coming...
Love your patina technique!!!! You are a darn good teacher and what's more is, you're very personable and down to earth(got an arrogant or pretentious bone in your body). Thank you and good luck!!! Cory

great stuff ! i coffee stained my blade, i'd read it doesn't last as long as the acids in the mustards etc, but mine has... and i'm very happy with it ! it's had some use, some cleaning and a lil coconut oil light greasing.... still looks good.

Thinking of purchasing an Opinel #8 and #9, and these kind of mods are right up my alley since I love modding and crafting stuff. Another couple of really cool options you can do on these, is inlayed patterns on the handles using crushed Turquoise and the thin CA glue to set it with, or thermally transferred images like woodland or farm / hunting scenes.....simply make a photocopy on a printer to the size you want that fits the handle, flip it toner side down, tape it at the edges to secure against movement, then using your wood burning shader tip, turn up to pretty warm but not so hot it burns the paper upon touching it, and just shade over the toner to heat it up and transfer the image to the wood, light sand and poly, DONE and it looks fantastic. Great job, you earned a new sub brother !

I'm working on dressing up my every day carry and I was wondering on the patina, How well will the patina hold up with use? Also how does it affect the patina if you leave the compound on the metal longer like say for an hour? What about 12 hours? Will that make the patina hold up better with everyday use?
Does the patina method work with opinel inox knives?
Nice work, really like how the blade came out.

Hello! as I have said before thank you for the video and inspiration. I am mostly done with personalizing my first opinel knife and I was just curious about the sheath and how you harden/bake it. (Like how you keep its rounded shape, How you restring it, What strings you use to restring it, What part during the hardening you can burn designs into the leather). Maybe if it isn't too much to ask you could do a mini video about how you personalized the sheath. Thank you so much again!
@CorneliusCreations
6 жыл бұрын
I will add that to my list. The leather is about 6oz veg tan. Meaning it’s pretty hard and it doesn’t loose shape. The leather you have in mind is about 1-2oz. That is real flimsy in thin. I will do some leather work videos soon :)
Is it possible to get the same result with an inox blade?
Just subbed!
@CorneliusCreations

Awesome man thank you!
Does it work for inox blades? Is anything possible for inox blades?
Спасибо за видео, посмотрел с интересом
How much do you sell this type of modified knife for? I love the videos and have recently started wood carving. Your videos have been a great guide for starting out!
Amazing work...may i ask you how to remove spots on the blade if i wanted to ????? Is there any way ???
@CorneliusCreations
4 жыл бұрын
That will be hard to do! Light sanding with 1500+ grit sandpaper
Does the blade necessary needs to be carbonated?
Excellent video but I am curious why you just don't take the knife apart first. You can take it apart and put it back together in less than five minutes. I realize taping up the handle can be useful but there are better ways of clamping the handle.
great video, i wondered if its possible to do patina letters? like a name?
@CorneliusCreations
4 жыл бұрын
With a little work I am sure it is possible
Hello, I was thinking about starting doing this as a source of income and was wondering if you sell yours and if so, for how much?
If bought another opinel, and sent it to you could you modify it for me, I cut my finger trying to take the pin out to remove the blade to put gun blue on it
Great Tutorial, thanks a lot. What I would like to do is etch my thumbprint on the blade. Do you think it will work if I press my thumb on the blade (after cleaning it first) and then cover that area with the mustard mix? I'm hoping that the mustard won't stain the blade where the grease from my thumbprint it, but as I've never done this before I'm not sure if it works or not..
@CorneliusCreations
4 жыл бұрын
Hmm... That is very creative but i’m not sure if it will take a full thumbprint. It would definitely be something to try just to see what happens!
@Kiwi_Ed
4 жыл бұрын
@@CorneliusCreations I know, my thumb is certainly bigger than a opinel blade. I was just wondering if the grease from my fingers would be enough to stop the etching fluid, while still etching between the ridges. We'll have to try I suppose! Thanks for your reply anyway.

if you did this on a kitchen knife would you have to coat the blade afterwards? to cut food safely?
@CorneliusCreations
5 жыл бұрын
A lot of kitchen knives are made of Stainless instead of High Carbon so this won't particularly work that well with any kitchen knife. A lot of people use a patina like this for their outdoor knives to protect it against rust and such.
Hi, I wanted to ask you with what substances you make the stains on the blade?
@CorneliusCreations

patina only works with carbon, if you have the stainless it will not work

Ahh thanks, just wanted to do it but i sadly have the INOX Version. The Carbon Version is better to sharpen isnt it?
@christianolivier4612
4 жыл бұрын
Good to know, thanks
@codemiesterbeats
4 жыл бұрын
@@Trichromasie carbon steel is easier to sharpen and in some ways stays sharper... amongst a bit more abuse. In my opinion carbon steel is just better save for the fact it COULD rust... however if you patina the knife the right way rust will be of very little concern. Get another opinel, they are cheap enough :)
how do you put just a protective patena on the carbon blade ?
@CorneliusCreations
3 жыл бұрын
Coat the whole blade
That's cool. I guess the mustard is because the oil emulsion thickens your concoction, but why do we use a mix of acetic acid AND citric acid?
I'm noticing an accent. New York/New Jersey???? I'm just playin. Awesome vid,new sub. I just ordered an Opinel 9. Let me get used to the knife, then I'll PIMP IT OUT. Thanx for sharing knowledge, creativity and talent.
