Please Note:- You cannot connect the GPU Riser to your USB port. The usb cable is just used as an alternative to a ribbon cable, there is no usb interface. You cannot run the gpu riser from a usb port!

I am very new to all the technical stuff related to mining. I was wondering if you connect the PCIe extension to PCIe 1x slot, will the GPU not reduce in performance since you are providing it with less bandwidth?

Check for Gigabyte models, I think there's few with up to 7 pci-e
I almost never leave any comment but this is the best tutorial for someone who has limited hardware knowledge. Great work!!
Fantastic explanation and physical demo of the hardware
Thank you for making this video. Adds to the research I'm gathering towards building a multi-gpu rig 👌
Exactly the information I was looking for. Thank you for the comprehensive and concise overview!
awesome video. I tried for months to figure out how to install a riser and didn't find a solution, and then I found your video. I helped a lot . Thank you. Keep making videos like this

Thank you very much for clearing the doubt on my mind. You have really given me one of the best tutorials I have ever watched. Keep it up and GOD bless you
WOW!!! Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have an old IPISB-CU motherboard which I was planning on using for a simple home server. I discovered one of these "risers, extenders, adapters etc..." online in a market place. I wasnt sure of the compatibility of these or how they worked. Thanks for explaining the PCI-E and the peripherals it really helped me make a lot of sense in purchasing some of these to add on to my other motherboards and create a more optimal old PC with newer components.
Perfect explanation video, answered every question I had in my mind about PCI-e risers. Keep up the good work pal!

Thanks, will do!
This helped, looking to expand my board out for blender rendering, same principles required.
I'm really glad I came across this. Thank you for the help!
Nice video, thanks. Agree with the comment on plugging directly into the power supply, rather than using short adapter cables. Some PSUs, even high wattage ones, can suffer from higher resistance caused by unnecessary connections. One of our units burnt out when the cable melted, luckily we didn't have a fire.
Great explanation, thanks for sharing! I bought my Riser Cable (Thermaltake TT PXCI-E 3.0 X16) 3 weeks ago and I'm really happy with it! :)
Thanks for posting. FOr persons who are just getting into multi-card MOBO builds this is a good introduction with concise explaination.
thank you very much! now im not confused anymore. gonna purchase that card riser now.
Thank you for a very direct, informative presentation! This was exactly what I was after.
Thanks thanks thanks so much for the clear and direct explanation which I could not find elsewhere. I will order soon onea couple of those for my build.
Hello, thanks for sharing your experience! Can I use Riser to plug other type of cards, such raid or network cards?
Thx so much for each video, keep going!
That is a well presented and very useful piece of information, thanks for making it.
fantastic tutorial! Thank you for the great explanation!
Finally a helpful video. Thank you so much!
Good stuff. Might be useful to mention that 90 degree versions also exist, that would actually allow getting to this x1 slot with x16 GPU installed in the long one (this particular riser in the video would not allow that, as the blue connecting cable is sticking up in the air where the fat GPU case would be).
good tip on the riser. i am a first time user and i probably would've have got it backwards at the pcie x1 connector to the mobo. thanks
Really great video - thank you for that :) I'm changing the configuration of my 3d rendering machine from 4 gpu to 7 and want to take all the gpus off the mobo for the very reasons you gave :) Many thanks.
Thank you for the clear introduction. Can you power the riser with a 12V non-PSU power supply?
Thank you so much for this video, really very useful to me.
great demonstration however do pciex1 be able to give same performance from pciex16 since you are only plugging from x1 and will be using x16 card?
Very informative. Won't this bottleneck the transfer speed from X16 to x4? Then even slower when going to USB? Or does none of that matter since this is geared toward Mining rigs?
Useful information, thanks and upvoted. I didn't know such extensions were available. Am I correct to assume this would just as well externally connect other pieces such as sound cards ?
Just a question of how much performance is lost on doing this?

Is there anyway I could force my gpu to run in 1x when plugged in a 16x slot?
Ok, I will watch the entire video. I need something like this, because my Z68 boards PCI 16 has some problems and I want to use my GPU in PCI 1 via this.
You are great for explanation. My PC does not have a sound card input. Can we use this USB adapter for the sound card?
Sweet man thanks for the video . I ordered one for my alienware alpha and a nice 600w power supply
Thank You! I have a motherboard with a 1x slot and a 16x slot, but I have 2 16x GPU's, this will help adapt one of my 16x GPU's to a 1x Slot!
Thanks for the video. This is what we needed. Please add: what are the cable connectors. To where do we connect the power cable? Some people want to use this for a laptop.
A short and nice video bro ! helps alot thanks !
Nice explanation dude great work !
Now how do I custom mount my third GPU in my thermaltake level 20 gt case where the hard drives go? I want it vertically along the back
A great breakdown, Lee! I shared this to someone on Discord, to explain moving GPU up off of a MOBO. P.S. My Micro Miner is doing well! Cheers!
Very informative video. I also wonder if we can use this riser to utilize an M2 NVME adapter with an acceptable speed performance.
I have a basic cooler master force 500 cabinet on my gaming PC. I want to add another graphics card. But my motherboard has only one graphics card slot. I am looking at adding another graphics card {rx 470(old) + rx580(new)} to my Pc. I want to keep the graphics card with in the cabinet itself. Is it possible to add a second card using these riser and keep it in the cabinet itself.
Nice video! I want to buy these usb risers but i dont know wich version to buy cuz some guys told me some risers are melting, what is the best model? And what are the precautions to take when using it? Thanks
Great video, helped me a lot!
Thanks for the useful video
Great video. Clear and to the point.
great video, question. can this be use as a rendering farm. like if would to get 4 of those extentions and each one will be connected to a GPU, would that work?
Graat video, do u need a specific usb cable? with the regular one it doesnt work...
Hello, great video thanks for making it. I do have question for you. Can item be used on current MOBO's I only need video card to work for a few minutes at a time?
This was a life saver, thanks dude.
Got a question, is this the recommended accessory to use when you got an usb port card that you need to connect onto the motherboard but the catch is that there won´t be enough space between two gpus populating the motherboard and want to route the card to face forward in the chassis instead of going out of the back?
i got a molex cable that directly connects to the power supply that supports up to 4 molex devices.. is this safe to use? it came with the power supply ..
I have a card that converts pcie-1x to 4 usb 3.0 slots. Will this work? (Or is this not different then usual usb 3.0 although it sticks into the pcie port?) The advantage of it would be that i have the connectors on the back of the computer so I can run the cables cleaner to the riser boards.
very informative video , nice work
Hello, can i use a different power supply for the second card? i have a rtx 3090 on my maine computer and i want to use my second card a 2060 super - i want to connect my second card to my mother board but use a different power supply. can i do it like this>
Thanks for this video, very impormative. I just found out that I can do 6x GPU on my Asus Maximus Hero VIII.

Hi could you help me understand how to get that many? 6??
great video mate. thanks for sharing this piece of information.
GREAT explanation/video. What would happen if you plug the USB cable into a USB port? (with the graphics card installed on the riser card)
On x16 Slot is a x16-Riser better. Graphicscard or Graphiccard ?
My current motherboard has an extra PCI-E X1 slot. Can i use a PCI-E X1 to PCI-E X16 riser and connect my new radeon VII and start mining with it? Is it going to lower the performance of the card because of using the riser?
Thanks for the video, explanation was great
So for example, my PCI Express slot is kinda faulty and it's not reading my graphics card. Can I use this PCI-E riser and connect it to the 1x slot and it should now read my graphics card & work?
This video has been helped with me. Thank you!!
In your video for ethereum mining with 4x R7 370 4GB, which riser did you use? Can these USB riser be used for ethereum. I have a green board riser, but it does not recognize my R7 370 card. Thanks in advance, great video.

MIght be a duff riser. Double check the connections on pcie slot, riser, power. unplug and replug everything.
With the rubber under it. Can i just plug-it and make the extra GPU sit next to the pc on my desk safely ? (Since im just trying to add some extra power from an old card even if it will probably not give much more and don't have many GPU to make it worth buying something to support them in the air)
Hello, I enjoyed your video. On another topic, is it possible to connect an external card which I use for analogue to digital conversion of video tapes, to my laptop? The card usually resides in a PC tower, but I want to use it with my laptop which is much newer and has a faster processor and more ram etc. I can't find any info on KZread which is applicable. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.
Clear and concise. Thank you.
Hello master! Thanks for the video. I have a question. Which motherboard and processor do you recommend for use with a Sapphire Radeon Nitro Plus Rx 470 OC 4GB? (Sorry for my bad english)

What do you think of the AM3 MoBo options? Several have 7x PCIe slots and are relatively cheap & available right now.
I've got a graphic card that needs extra power (2x8pin). When I use this riser does the card still need extra power or that Sata power will be enough? Thanks!
if i want to use my gpu for gaming purpose not for mining, is it possible to use this riser cards to be able to mount my gpu on a dirrefent place like outside my pc case or would this slow my framerate down, or does it work at all like for normal gpu usage? and if so, is there a way to mount my graficscard some how in a different way then directly putting it into the 16x full size pcie slot on my mainboard? Thank you in advance, great video by the way. =)
So does the x1 channel have enough bandwidth to work with that x16 GPU card? Conversely, if you could theoretically fit 4 of the those 1x extenders into a single x16 slot, you would have four 16x GPU cards on one 16x slot.. so what am I missing?
@JBFD

Hah that's the thing you can only fit one cause it goes in a certain place in it I know a thing or more about pcs I own 2 of them one with 2 gt 1030 OC edition and an I5 4590 3.3 ghz and one with a amd A6 5400B 3.4 ghz and a gt 710 OC
Thanks for this interesting video !!! I have one of this adapter and I tried to use it to plug another adapter with a NVMe unit on it. But the PC or the O.S. does not recognize it. I´m using the same adapter for the NVMe unit which I use to plug it directly to the PCIe port with good result. Can you tell me why it doesn´t work when I use the USB extension Riser Cables ? Thank you in advance for your answer !!! Blessings !!!
You really should be using an anti-static mat and grounding yourself. Every time you touch components, you are likely transferring a potential electrical charge and making connections which may damage the components.
What if i want to connect GPU to primary slot directly and another GPU to PCIE1X using riser?? How can i make room for pulling out extending 1X? Will ribbon riser work?
Quite interesting that the size of the connections don't really matter then? Does it just change the bandwidth of how much data is being sent to and from the card via the connector or something?
great vid buddy...saved me a new mobo...
So much clear guidance. Thanks a lot. But I wonder (as a non-savvy) if any caution or requirements.
can you connect the riser at the pci bus? If the card doesnt have 6/8 pin connector and draws power directly from m/b, can you connect 6 molex to the psu?
very useful, thank you for the video
Hi there, nice video. Does plugging in via "only" pcie x1 effect the performance of the gpu?
Does adapting from 16x down to 1x reduce how well the card runs or does it have no effect
Thanks man. Very clear.
doesn't it get really hot very fast? and if i have a graphics card that doesn't require external energy how will it work?
Hey thanks for the tutorial. I have a 1080 ti in my gaming rig and Im mining with Nicehash, I have another 1080 ti card on the way and I want to add it to this rig. Can I just plug it in to the motherboard with the riser kit, how do i configure my PC to use both cards, also Im using EVGA PrecisionXoc for monitoring, Would I use the same PrecisionXoc program for both cards(I want to be able to control them independantly) or can I download it again for the new card, sorry im new to this, thanks for the rely!
Sir is there any differences like functional fall off between the pcie port on actual motherboard and using pcie riser in the 2nd choice??
I don't have a mollex connector but a 6 pin. Does also the card needs power from 6+2 pin connector?
hi ! thanks for that great video that lighten me up on risers but one question still remains in my head. I have a x6 pin riser, should I plug it directly from my PSU and only do that or should I plug my gpu as I would do without a riser + plug the riser ? Thanks ! (and sorry if you already answered in the comment ..I didn't see the answer)
Hello. Can I connect graphic card that should have pci 3.0 to motherboard wich contain slot pci 1.0 by riser? It will be lost data by this?
Hi IMineBlocks, I have a question for you. is there a way to connect several gpus (let's say 2) on one PCi 16x slot?
If I don't have room for a mining rig, can I put the riser on top of my PC case? Would it cause any issues?
Thanks for posting. you are legend
Does the riser connect to the outside or inside of the cable that is connecting to the actual GPU whenever it is not connected to the top, BEFORE it is mounted to the other side. Thank you.
Thanks. You can also do a video about joining two or more PSU for a single mobo, if you haven't done that already.
Can you please answer me this. Is it possible then to connect two graphics cards in your current motherboard??? Because I have a motherboard with a full pci and pci e???? If its possible you could also use SLI... plz respond
instead of putting in a GPU card, what if we put an M.2 SSD with PCIe adaptor? was the speed changes or else?
Thanks for the video. I actually wanted to know how many gpus I can connect to my mother board. It's a B365M GAMING HD from gigabyte. Can't find info online. If you can help that would be great!
Hi thanks for the vid it got me to install the riser and card but now my windows do not pick it up it says extension graphics card in device manager and when I mine it doesn't pick it up I tried to uninstall drivers and reinstall driver didn't work can you please make a video explaining how to troubleshoot your riser after install in windows
Can you use a pci e riser and with a graphics card inside and while running a graphics card in the mother board to boost gaming performance? Btw this is not for mining only for gaming
