Good stuff, it’s always nice when you get around to the paint stage after welding, such a time consuming job.

i didnt bother cutting it all out i just welded it to the body my buddy did it looks alright on his truck. there's that tiny lip between box side and rear fender. Hopefully the body filler will smooth out the transition

For primer I use uPol high build, base coat was probably wanda or XL products jet black, clear coat is 4:1 wanda, body filler is z grip and duraglass, (80, 180, 320, 500 6 inch sticky sandpaper and 2000 grit wetsand), polish was Presta part A and or 3m perfect it. 3m 8" foam polishing pad. The rust preventative coating was called Por15. I think I nailed it all.

I am at this stage with my repairs. with low spots, would it be easier to put filler over them and then sand them down to the rest of the panel With an 80 grit key? Can I put primer over an etch primer as a barrier between my etch and body filler? Thanks in advance, enjoying the series!! Learning lots 👍

Yes, you are correct. 80 or 36 grit depending on how quick you are trying to be. And also yes to the primer question. You need a barrier over your body filler *always* if not it will eventually show through your paint. 2k primer over the etch is good.

Would a a glass or metal reinforced filler be good in this case around the welded seam?

  • @bpbrestorations2093

They say a polyester fiberglass reinforced filler over the seam only then body with regular filler over that. I have done it both ways, if I was out of fiberglass filler I would just use regular filler and I have yet to have a comeback or a busted or bad seam come back.......

Are you degreasing in between sanding? And what did you sand undamaged paint with?

  • @bpbrestorations2093

I generally use w&g remover before any work is done. And then 1 more time before any material goes on. Sand undamaged paint with a red scotch pad or wetsand with 600/800.

Bro can I just say the next time you buy primer tell the guy behind the counter to toss you a hand full of strainers so you don't end up mixing buggers in with your cup and gun...Those of us who been sanding autobody for say 30 or 40 yrs don't use Rookie coats any more because when were wet blocking we know what's low whats flat and what needs work which is why we load up the primer because we end up blocking much of it off until our work is FLAT and wave free .which is why we use LONG HARD FOAM sanding blocks by 3M AND WE DON"T USE OUR FINGER TIP except to pick our nose..AND WE NEVER SAND PRIMER WITH 600 we use 320 or 400 WET in fact I NEVER SEEN ANY reputable body man 600 dry anything ....How come we never see him tack rag anything down Or use Pre cleano after he's done finger fucking it with bare hands ...Ive never seen a real body man use such short strokes on such a long bodyside ...with a spray gun EVER NOT EVER ...Longer the stroke the better ..

The technical data sheet for Nason primer calls for 600 dry. Specially if your laying down metallic paint over it. Maybe you don't read them because you can't read? Either way you can argue with Nason about what they recommend for their own primer.
