    I wish I could share a pic. But I have been working on the body of my truck since last month. It’s a 91 dodge w150. Not in bad shape at all but watching this series helped me tremendously and wow did my two panels I got done today speak volumes. Minor orange peel in both but I’m so happy with it. I used spray cans so I may use a 15-1800 grit before the 2000 to help get the peel out easier. That presta two step is amazing!!!! My dad and I have been detailing cars on the side of our real jobs so I had some of the buffing knowledge! Just wanted to drop a line and say THANK YOU!!!!

    Finish being flat helps it shine. I use those merca pads on a D/A but you have to be very careful around all edges when buffing I have had to redo jobs twice before I found the touch needed to not do it again.

    Honestly I try to shop local as much as possible so I use a local paint supply store for everything except the steel usually, and that I normally get off ebay if they are bigger than I want to try to make by hand. There is generally a paint supply store in every small city that is locally owned and operated, try to hunt them up.

    Great work. I watched all 6 videos. Very helpful, I think I might tackle this on my f-150. Is it possible to put those patch panels in without the flare tool and just cutting out the exact shape?

  • @bpbrestorations2093

    @bpbrestorations2093

    3 жыл бұрын

    It is possible, however it takes a bit more skill to weld and finish out those types of welds.it usually ends up wavey, distorted and needing more body filler to make it straight. The price of the tool is pretty cheap if you already have access to air, you may as well spend the extra bucks and save you the extra bodywork.

    I just got an '07 Dodge Ram that needs exactly the same work done on it. I've done all this before and worked for a body shop when I was younger, but we used mostly lacquer back then. I did do a few cars on my own with enamel, but that was all about 30 yrs. ago. I needed a refresher course. Awesome series. Excellent work my friend. You can't fake it with black. You have talent. How long did you wait to wet sand it after the final clear coat? Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill. P.S. I'd like to have a word with the one guy that gave you a dislike. I'm going to assume it was an accident.

    Thanks buddy I appreciate that! Glad I can help you out and thanks for the positive vibes! And as far as your clear coats, most all your 4 to 1 and 2 to 1 clears will set up within 24 hours as long as you are at least at 65 - 85 degrees you will be fine to buff in 24 hours. To test it before buffing simply do a very light touch on it the next day if your fingerprint does not go away after you lift it's still just a little to soft give it another day. Some people say wait a week or more but I have always found that it gets way harder and way harder to sand and buff if you let it cure that long. Any more questions feel free to hit me up.

    is there any video you have that shows a little more on what you did behind the new fender... it was pretty tore up and rusty... I wantched all six and at the end you hit a little bit verbally what you did... I did not know if you ever showed any of the detail of that... even if it was a different vehicle. I have a F350 same exact condition and I know that it will be really rough in the back side also. This was an amazing job. I hope to tackel my F350 this summer... Mine is a 02 7.3 in other wise great shape. Thanks... kudos to wife on great job.

    Sorry I did not video it. However if you check on ebay for the patch panels you can buy the kit with inner and outer replacement metal for both sides, and when you look at the panel it's pretty self explanatory on how it goes in. If you can patch the outside you can definitely do the inner dont sweat it. This particular truck the owner did not want to bother with the inners, it's an old farm truck.

    Hi. I have just binge watched all 6 parts of the restoration. I am just wondering why the owner was prepared to pay for a top notch job on such an old truck. After all, the front now needs doing to match.

    We did sand and buff the front and also filled in any scratches to help blend it in a little. But ultimately it was not as shiny and nice as our job. It was actually a pretty low mile powerstroke so it was worth saving to many people.

    Might be an emotional attachment. God knows I've sunk WAY more into my car than it was worth because I just loved it. Engine was showing signs of failure when I finally decided to move on. Car was worth about five grand and I was roughly thirty grand into it just for maintenance by the time we parted ways; and that's at a local indy using internet sourced parts, not the dealer.

    Yes... 10 or 12 lb. Test fishing line in a sawing motion behind it. Old welding wire also works if you have any laying around. And as far as reinstall 3m has a nice selection of adhesive double sided tapes to pretty much match up to any factory style tapes.
