indeed is one of the most satisfying landing this trick. Talking about being underrated, there was even a time when this trick was hated on and I never understood why, its a very stylish trick if executed following Jonny's instructions.

Because most people do them badly, or because they cant control their kickflip so they learn bad varials. Nearly every trick can be done well. Youll see good skaters get hyped on basic tricks or weird tricks, just because of how you made it look. Do whats fun, fuck the haters!

Because tre flips and backside flips are only a bit harder. Once you learn those you stop doing varials. They good to have in a game of skate though most ppl don't do them very much.

important is shuvit and kickflip. and of course, trust your board. funny, it was my first trick... on 6 month skating.

@@owenguerrero8992 yeah I also could do varial flip before kickflip... so should be a good sign ;-) try varial flip body varial, so you have a backside flip.

When I was younger, in I think 2002-2003, I remember it had taken me 2 years of practicing every day to land my first good kickflip. Idk why but it was extra hard for me to learn it. Then the next day, when I was showing off to my friend that I could land kickflips, he told me to try a varial flip. I didn't even really know what a varial flip was but I tried it and landed it 2nd try. Literally 2 years to kickflip and 2 tries to varial flip. Thank you for reading my blogpost.

Kickflips are harder to learn than varial kickflips are. Since you learned the kickflip first you had the flip technique down so all you had to do from there was pop the tail like a pop shove it instead of an ollie.

i cant do kickflip and i skate for like 8 months with a 1 year gap after 4 months but i did varial flip after 5 tries i swear

i was just thinking to look for a varial flip tutorial today and now i see you uploaded one, thank you i guess ahah

I learnt mine by doing Pop and flick only, i pop-shuvit through the toe-side edge of the tail so that the boards heel-side edge rolls up and i flick with my front foot to flip the board. Popping through the toe side edge helps get the heel side edge up and easier to flick for many flip tricks. I used this method to learn perfect switch varials a couple of weeks ago, and got a minor fracture in my switch flick foot on the same day.

Really great tutorial. Love the arrows, there’s always confusion when saying ‘lean forward’ etc

Landed my first varial flips today I'm sooo happy didn't watch this tutorial for it but wanted to refresh myself with the trick so I keep in my head until the next sesh can't wait to skate again knowing I can do these now

Style of video is great. Lots of slo mo footage, you can really see what oeg is doing what. I just wish I had access to this kind of info 20 y ago when I was starting up as a teen

You and your board are also going to move/land 6 to 8 inches to the left or right of you depending on on stance. That helped me learned pop shoves. Know your gonna go a little left to right. Anyways great tips thanks. Love varial flips

I like varial flip very helpful to learn 360 Flip good trick in game of skate

It's very funny, i never got to land a kick flip but varial flips were very natural to me. And when i tried to do a kick flip a varial would vome out instead. I don't skate anymore though.

i struggle to stay over the board, but that tip about really leaning on that front edge sounds like the key. But id love to learn how to do these kinda tricks like pros, where the board doesnt move off your centre but stays right under you. Thanks Jonny!

Yes. If your board is moving away from you when you're performing pretty much any trick. Try leaning harder in that same direction

After 3yrs of skating I finally landed my first varial. Still can’t kickflip but I have all the basic shoves down so varials came a little easier than kickflips.

the first "trick flip" that i land was a varial flip. 15 years ago it was very easy to land it for me compare to kickflips

I use to be able to varial flip better than I could kickflip. Kickflips were my kryptonite.

I loved doing kickflips. I used to be able to pop a triple/quad and it would look like I am gliding through the air (in slow mo ofc)

This and heelflip were the only flips I ever mastered. Sigh. Much nostalgia.

I could never kick flip all that well, but I was pretty good at varial flips. Fun trick to do. Wow, I sound old.

I landed my first varial The day after i landed The first kickflip an at that time i had only landed two or three kickflips. For me varial flips feel more naturial than kickflips, because you kick straight forwards instead of a little backwards.

Hey.. 20 years ago it was a normal trick… but nobody’s did it, after they unlocked treflips…. A nice varial flip bs revert, looks nice ^^. Most dudes do tres, but in my opinion tres are easier than varial flips…. I also Never did them since I unlocked tre flips.. but I had a break for 10 years. Startet 2 month ago, broke my arm after three weaks;) and now I will learn every trick i like..

man... i have skated from 13 to 19 now i am 37 and all those videos about skating are poping up.... tried it this summer. took me a while but still got some tricks down after almost 20 years kick heel, pop shov it, nolli pressure flip. my ollie is shit tho! but fuck me everything hurt the next day and i work out 5 days a week consistently!! completely different kind of stress on the muscle! i miss it so much! but the injury potential is so high! not sure if it is worth it.

For me it was heelflips and variall flip before kickflips. I pop just like a pop shove. And flick my front foot straighter than a kickflip. And not very hard. Although if I'm standing still I need to pop and flick harder than I would if I was rolling

Idk y, but when i try to do a varial flip, my board just flys behind me and slightly to the right, but then again, im not tht good at pop shuvits, im way better at front shuvits, so when i attempt a varial heelflip, it just works very well, i have landed a few, but now i think im in a rut and im just overcomplicating it, but back to the varial flip, so ig i just need to get better at pop shuvs

Keep your feet hovering closer over the grip

So a Varial Kickflip is BS Shuv and Varial Heelflip is FS Shuv? And then Hardflip is FS shuv and Inward Heel is BS Shuv?

The day I started pretending varial flips were just a popshuvit was the day I got em on lock

Same. Pop shuvit with a little flick

Varials are easier than regular kickflips because most people know how to shuv it before kickflip
