    I am so sorry I didn't see your reply for some reasons! So leur before a verb is always singular. It would take a S in front of a noun so when translated to THEIR I will make a video about that in the next few months :)

    Thank you Elena ❤️ You are not the only one confused by "son frère" in the comments 😅 We can also say "s'occuper de lui", both work in this case. Just keep in mind that when the verb is followed by DE, we will use EN, even if it's not abstract. Does it make more sense ?

    It's definitely a case by case area. I shouldn't have include it because I feel it will confuse you. But it all comes down to the verb and verbs followed by "de" aren't always let's say people friendly. For example Manger de would refer to cannibalism if used with a person, but it works with animals. Does it make sense ?

His brother is a person and en is used for "him", is this just an exception to the general rule, en cannot be used to replace people ? Is it OK to use "J'en ai eu assez " if I have eaten sufficient ?? or is it not good French ?? Merci !

  • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane

    @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane

    3 жыл бұрын

    For "s'occuper de son frère" we could also say "s'occuper de lui", both works. But since s'occuper de" is followed by DE, we use EN. Always look at the abstract part of the sentence but also at the verb, if followed by de or à or simply nothing, "J'en ai eu assez" is correct, everybody will understand, but after a meal we would use the verb "manger" = J'ai mangé assez / J'ai assez mangé / J'en ai assez mangé J'espère que ça aide 🙂

    Please help me with something that I've been pondering. Just been cycling through France and seen signs "un train peut en cacher un autre" meaning "one train can hide another". What I'm confused about is the "en". What's wrong with "un train peut cacher un autre"?

  • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane

    @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane

    Жыл бұрын

    Peter, when using "un autre", it's common to find EN before: - Un train peut en cacher un autre - Tu en veux un autre? / Tu veux en prendre un autre ? It's the repetition of quantity at the end with EN. I know this one is a bit confusing :)

    With "Elle y a assisté" the "y" went before both verbs, but in "je vais y réfléchir" the "y" went between the verbs. Please explain if you can

    Good catch 😃 je vais y réfléchir, y is before the main verb, which is réfléchir. If aller was the main verb, it would be j'y vais. Elle y a assisté, a assisté is the passé composé so considered as one verb/conjugation. let me know if you need more explanation :)

    i hope i didn't miss anything in this video but i would like to know one thing. i was watching a movie in french and someone said "qu'est-ce que tu en sais?". what does it mean exactly? and why is it not "qu'est-ce que tu sais?"? can it be translated as "what do you know about this?"?

  • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane

    @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane

    That's a very good question! Basically it's between an expression and an unspoken part of the sentence. En replaces a group of words including the preposition DE. So here it would be "savoir DE quoi on parle". If we replace "de quoi on parle" by a pronoun, we have EN. Does it make sense?
